Teide was on her way home, a spring in her step and an extra-large sized bubble tea clenched tightly in her right hand. Why the extra large size? What was the special occasion? Well, she'd done extra well on her GED practice exam earlier, and that deserved a reward! She was going to be successful! She was bopping her way along a back street on her way back to Laney's apartment when a negaverse signature crossed her mind's eye. A lieutenant. Close by. Wait. No. Teide was nearly on top of her already! She looked up from her drink, blinking at the lieutenant in her path. A dark, loamy smell filled her nostrils. Tinged with blood - the smell of chaos. Teide took a step back. "I don't want to fight you," she said.

Cavansite gave a little grin, feeling much more confident now that she had her little civilian plaything and food bringer…making life easier was a good thing…but…someone was there. Someone strong…stronger than the last one who had…
Who had busted her weapon and left her useless.
The lieutenant looked over at the girl who had come up…she couldn’t be much older than the last one…but she felt so much stronger…though seemed to have a better attitude about her…
“If you don’t want to fight me, then why are you bothering to approach me?” Cavansite was looking the girl over, somewhat intrigued at how the dark blue fabric that was on her uniform seemed to sparkle…how interesting. If there was one good thing that the other side seemed to have…it was pretty fashion.
Her fairy wand sparkled…but that wasn’t something she had right now…and she really wasn’t sure she could take this girl on, even if she did have her pathetic weapon…oh well. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to talk.
Just this once, of course.

Teide frowned at the lieutenant. It wasn't as though she'd done it on purpose! She'd been minding her own business and drinking her bubble tea when suddenly, Negaverser! "I'm not... approaching you," she said, carefully echoing the woman's vocabulary. "I was just... walking. In the same place that you're walking. It's a coincidence." That sounded very much like she was protesting too much. "Really," insisted Teide, which she realized sounded even worse. She shouldn't let a lieutenant get her all frazzled like this! It was unprofessional. She'd been a lieutenant! She knew what a shitty job it was and how this woman almost certainly had no idea what she was doing. Be more confident, she thought, straightening her spine and lifting her chin. "Why did you approach me?" she asked, crossing her arms. "That seems like the better question."

Cavansite raised a brow. “I didn’t really approach. You’re the one who spoke first, you’re the one who initiated contact. Honestly, you’re very lucky that I’m not in that much of a fighting mood tonight, so if you wanted to, I might let you go without a good thrashing from me.” She folded her arms over her chest and tried to look threatening. She felt like a threat, at least. Maybe like a lemur. A lemur with vampire fangs. And a knife tied to its tail. She was a knife tailed vampire lemur.
Beware.
“Who are you, anyway? Do you have a name?” Once again her eyes traveled back to the sparkling fabric. She wanted it. She wanted to sparkle too…maybe when she got stronger she would sparkle.
…Or maybe this girl would give her the sparkly bow.
Or maybe she wouldn’t. It really didn’t matter much. “I like your bow.”
The words were out of her mouth before she could stop herself. And she hated herself instantly.

Teide frowned slightly - this was an argument of pure semantics, and therefore over nothing at all. The lieutenant clearly didn't want to admit any fault at all, but she was more bark than bite. A good thrashing? The knight raised an eyebrow. She was two ranks up and had mastered whatever combat training the negaverse was currently putting this girl through the paces of. She'd trained with Bischofite and Avalon - a legacy of traitors, surely, but a legacy none the less. "Teide," she answered, deciding to treat this woman as a particularly small and barky dog with a neglectful owner. Lots of people in the Negaverse were like that, and they'd never know there was a way out unless it was shown to them. You've got to be kind. "You do?" she asked graciously. "Thank you." She rather liked her bow, too... But it would grow back. She unraveled her belt and pulled it out of her coat. "You can have it," said Teide. "I could tie it in your hair for you."

At first, Cavansite was smug, because of course this girl would give her the bow, of course she would. She didn’t want to get hurt or bashed or…
…or she was trying to trick her. Trying to tie the ribbon into her hair so she could use the pain…whatever like the other one had. Or maybe she was trying to be nice, she wasn’t sure. She just wasn’t sure. So for a long moment, she was quiet, frowning slightly. “What is it you want from me, than, Teide? Are you trying to lull me into a false sense of security or something?”
Because that made sense to her…but damn…she really wanted the bow…and it would look amazingly cute in her hair.
“…If this isn’t a trick, yeah, you can tie it in my hair. I guess.”

Teide blushed, eyes blown wide. "No," she said hurriedly. "Of course not!" What would she even be able to do? Order had no powers that worked well in ambush. She couldn't just reach inside someone's chest and pluck out their starseed like she could have as Astrophyllite. "Not everyone is out to get you," she said soothingly, looping the ribbon around Cavansite's head and tying it in a bow. She arranged the lieutenant's hair, stuck the star ornament over the center, and stepped back, hands clasped daintily in front of her chest. "It suits you," she said. Perhaps Cavansite could wear starlight in other ways, if she could be brought into the light. There was always a chance. "You don't need to be afraid of me," she said, frowning delicately. She thought she'd seen through the lieutenant's bluster for what it truly was - uncertainty. Fear. "I'm sorry this happened to you, that you were corrupted. I was, too, once."

Cavansite reached up, touching the bow and the smallest hint of a smile crossed her lips. Very small, very hinted…but it was the most unguarded expression she had made thus far. “I don’t know if I would go so far as to say that it suits me, but I bet I do look damn good in it, I’m sure.”
She was about to say something else, about to maybe even start a conversation with Teide, maybe really ask some questions or say thank you or something…but…
The happy expression faded. “What do you mean you were corrupted once? I don’t understand.” Did this mean that she had been a part of the Negaverse? And she had left? She had gone to…
Was this girl a traitor? She was wearing something that was given to her by a traitor? That didn’t bode well at all.

Teide looked sadly at the lieutenant. She remembered what it was like to be in her position, not knowing that there was a way out, or even just another way to be. "I'm a knight," she explained. "A Wonder. You.." She bit her lip. "You could be one, too, if you wanted to. The Negaverse... it takes our power from us, replaces it with Chaos, files away all of the things that make us special and makes us rocks." She smiled for the other woman's benefit, trying to be reassuring. "But there's a way to leave the Negaverse," she said, "If you want to. It's not a good place. Maybe you don't feel it yet, because there's only a little Chaos in you... but when there's more, you'll stop being you. You'll start to do things you don't want to do, think and say things you know you wouldn't, because Chaos wants you to." "But you don't have to let it get that far." She considered the bow on Cavansite's head. "It really does look good on you," she said.

Her mouth was dry and she felt quite a bit lightheaded. It really does look good on you. The words resounded in Cavansite’s head and she looked like she might be sick. Slowly she shook her head and took a step back.
“No. No you’re quite wrong. I’m not unhappy, I like the chaos. I like…love the Negaverse. How…how dare you even presume to insinuate that I’m not.” Her voice was faltering and she drew in a steadying breath, closing her eyes for a moment.
“Chaos is who I am. Chaos is what I love. You will not be able to stay away from who you were supposed to be forever. We will get you back one day, mark my words.” The lieutenant was proud that her voice did not shake when she made the threat, but she turned and ran off as soon as she was done speaking.
She had to tell someone. Had to talk to someone about this. Teide. She was a traitor. She had been one of them, and she was a traitor.
…She hadn’t even known that that was a possibility. And honestly, she wished she could forget.
Her hand reached up and tore off the ribbon, looking at it when she was a good distance away. No. She didn’t look good in it. But one day, it would look better on her, she was sure.
Cavansite stuffed the ribbon into her subspace pocket and began looking for a new starseed to adorn the beautiful fabric with.
