Winter was already here. It was cold and Satomi did not like it. Of course it meant she didn't have to worry about the sun damaging her skin like she did in the summer months. Not that this was her priority as she walked down the streets of Destiny City. Satomi Yang had chosen to face the cold she disliked so much because it honestly felt warmer than the home she had just left.
There had been another fight. Her mother had not come home last night and once again, her father had taken his frustration out on his daughter. Things were just...normal.
But no matter how she hid it, Satomi still hurt. It was why she really was not watching the direction she was going in. Most people seemed to get the idea to walk around the down hearted female but it was not something that could be said when she smacked into something, tripped, feel forward and grabbed onto the first thing she could to keep herself from going face first into the icy ground.
It just happened to be a human...

Evan had been minding his own business. This was the first time in while that he'd had an all right day; work had been all right, and he was even out at a reasonable time. It was cold, but not godawful. No Negaverse agents breaking into the kitchen, no youma biting chunks out of him. Zack had even been a little nicer this morning. Probably because he was drunk, but Evan was pretending like he hadn't smelled the alcohol on him when he'd gotten a hug goodbye this morning.
And then, you know, there was this.
People latching onto him.
Immediately he thought he was under attack; he was immediately thrown off balance. One minute he was walking home, the next he was spitting out dirty ice and rolling onto his side. He'd gone down with whoever had latched onto him and only narrowly avoided scraping his teeth against the pavement below them. Which was great, because he would have hated to have to go to a dentist for a row of broken teeth, but not so great because his cheek was burning and he could taste blood from where he'd bitten it.
"Are you serious!?" he blurted, not necessarily at whoever grabbed him, but at this situation.
Really, though—really—he couldn't have one day where things didn't go wrong?
He rolled onto his back and rubbed at his chin, still raw from the ice and ground. He wasn't sure if he'd scraped it or if it just hurt. He groaned and cringed and threw a half-hearted glare towards whoever latched onto him. "—What was that for?"

Logic said when she hit something solid, she should have stopped. Physics said otherwise. Today appeared to be a day Physics would win.
As soon as she smashed forward, Satomi realized she wasn't going to right there for much longer. Whatever she hit was falling down and she right along with it. Only when she felt her body bounce slightly did she even dare hope to consider the slip and fall was over.
The annoyed, angry voice though sent the Asian mutt into a scramble. Just as she started to collect herself, Satomi lifted her head and found her eyes locked onto pale eyes. Her face paled and she struggled to get her hands under her. "I'm so sorry." Pushing back and away from him, Satomi's head dropped. "I'm so sorry. I slipped and fell and...oh are you hurt?" Only for a moment she would steal a look up at him, but quickly she returned to the submissive pose her body naturally took.

Evan let out a very exasperated groan. "Yes," he begrudgingly muttered, "But I'll live." He was more jostled than anything and—damn, she had been nice about it, so his anger quickly faded. He started collecting his things quickly; it wasn't much, but a few loose papers and miscellaneous trinkets had fallen out of his bag so he shoved them back in. He didn’t look up when he added, "Sorry, you just startled me. I didn't mean to get so snappy. It was just an accident."
The road was slippery; he'd fallen on his a** more than once when the snow started falling, so he couldn’t fault her. They'd both just had bad luck enough to clash and…was…that…
For a long moment, Evan stared at the quickly reddening ground beneath them and it took that long to realize—no, he was not bleeding profusely from some odd appendage.
But his thermos was. Sort of.
He made a startled noise and then dove right into his bag, yanking out a now half empty container of tomato soup and trying to save as many of the papers as he could.

Her head bobbled up and down twice. "Yes, an accident. I never meant to..." but her voice stopped as she realized he now seemed to be making a panicked noise and was violently digging through his bag.
Finally lifting her head to look, it finally dawned on Satomi something wasn't right. Almond eyes opened wide and she crawled forward, avoiding touching him as she picked up the now disguarded container. "Oh! No I'm responsible for this. Her voice was shaking. "Please, let me help. There has to be a way to save these. " Reaching into her own purse, Satomi produced a lovely, a clearly pricey hankerciff. "Here, please..." Handing it out to him, she offered it will pulling the leaking container farther away. "Use this."

Evan barely looked before he grabbed what she was offering him. He had thought, at first, that it would have been napkins and he was but an inch from wiping at the spilled soup when he froze.
There was no denying the quality of the handkerchief she'd offered him, and even if he was desperate to save his papers, save whatever items he had in his bag, he couldn’t bring himself to soil the fabric.
He froze for a few seconds, as if processing what to do, and then handed it back to her with a sigh. "Thanks, but I don't want to make a bigger mess for you, too. I think this is okay, it's just my papers. I got them out."
Evan paused and then sighed, reaching into the bag and pulling out one drenched sheet.
"Well. Most of them. It's…It's okay." He sounded disappointed—a bit frustrated and a bit worried. He held the papers closer, skimming them and trying to see if he could still read. Most of them were still legible. "I—I can work with this," he promised. "They were just recipes. I think I can remember them. Are you…" he glanced up. "Are you okay? I'm sorry, I meant to ask. I just got distracted, I worked really hard on these," he said, holding the papers carefully as he tried to wipe off what soup clung to them.

"No I insist." Satomi said, slightly pleaing with him. To show him she was serious though, Satomi reached out a shaking hand to pick up one of the papers. Slowly drawing it towards her, she started to run the cloth over trying to be gentle enough to save whatever was under the soup.
She said nothing to his question but gave a nod, scooping up another page. It was not until she had two or three more that she finally found her soft voice once more. "I'm so sorry. I fear some of these have been completely ruined and it is my fault. Her head feel in a small bow. "I would like to make admends somehow. Maybe I can buy you a new...."
Eyes traced over towards the soup and her shoulders fell. "Lunch and travel mug?"

Evan faltered as he looked up at the girl, and while he seemed dually frantic and hopeless, her words seemed to shake him out of his thoughtlessness. "It was an accident," he tried to reassure. He wanted to be mad at her and shout and blame her and take his frustrations out on her, but it was an accident and he knew it. And she was being so sweet about it, it just ate away at all his frustration.
"I…I can remember most of them, I'm sure. And if I don't, it's back to the drawing board. Not a big deal, I promise. I'll get them right again. Or make them better. You don't have to buy me anything. I'd probably just complain, anyway."
He watched her for a second longer and then went back to trying to save what papers he could.
"…Are you from around here? Because you kind of don't act like the usual city jerk."
He paused, wondering how badly that could be taken, and then hastily clarified, "No offense, I mean—I'm not saying everyone who lives in the city is a jerk. I live in the city. It's just that a lot of people are, well. Jerks. And you just seem, you know. Not."

His word made her stop for a moment and feel warmth rise in her cheeks. She didn't dare look up at him as he spoke but only gave a single, slow nod.
"Yes. I've lived here most of my life. I apologize if I come off as...strange." She finally said softly, pulling her hair away and dropping her head into what appeared to be a half bow. "Please, I just would like to do they right thing and make it up to you Sir."
Finally her head lifted slightly enough that she could look up at him, never meeting his eyes. "But not everyone in this city is a cruel as you say."
At least she told herself that.

"Oh," Evan said after a moment, just seeming embarrassed again. "…It wasn't supposed to…I wasn't calling you strange. Not like, bad strange, anyway. It was supposed to be a compliment."
Either satisfied that his bag was as clean as it could be, or just too embarrassed to stick around, he shifted on his feet and looked away. "You…You don't have to make it up to me, it's not a big deal. Look, let's just…shake hands and call it even, okay? But, uhm…"
He reached up his hand, still covered in a long sleeve and wiped at his face somewhat awkwardly. "…Is there something on my face? I…I wasn't trying to be mean, I'm sorry…"
And now he just sounded like he was pleading for her forgiveness or something; he wasn't used to people not looking him in the eyes and was more worried that he had offended her than about his recipes or anything else in his bag.

Her eyes quickly darted away and she slowly shook her head. "No. Of course not." She said not allowing herself to look at him again. "I just want to make it up to you. It's the right thing to do. And I..."
She stopped and picked her head up just enough to look at the lower part of my face. "I would gladly help you re-write them. Or even type them for you so you can't lose them again."
Honestly, Satomi's meekness was coming through. To walk away from this would leave her even more shaken than she already was.

Evan seemed incredibly hesitant and shifted. "No...It's okay, honest. I'm not mad or anything, I…it's just recipes," he said after a second, and then shrugged. "I'll make new ones. Better ones. I'm going to write a cookbook one day," he said, trying to change the subject a little bit. "I mean. If I'm good enough. I'm still trying to come up with the best recipes."
He offered a sheepish smile.
"What kind of chef would I be if I couldn’t remake a recipe? How about…instead of any of that, one of these days you drop by the bar—uhm, I mean, how about I give you my number and you text me sometime, and come try something for me? I work in the kitchen, so I have a lot of free time to cook. So if you wanted to make it up to me, you could come review some of my cooking? I need honest opinions."
