Vanna had finally had enough and tossed his phone, alright more threw the phone into his dirty clothes hamper. He hated the winter festivities. After all every winter break his family called and tried to get him back to visit his clan. Most of the time Mai warded them off and came up with some reason why he wasn’t returning home. This time Mai had gotten a really bad winter cold and was currently hold up in the nurse’s office so she couldn’t run interference. Ugh this was going to drive him crazy. He was dealing with family problems and to top it all off he had just gotten on another mafia inclined Chimera’s radar when he had gone to pay off a debt. He needed to get away. Before he realized what he was doing he was standing in front of a familiar room. He told himself he was going to stay away from the room. He had no business getting a kid involved with him, but he needed someone not his family or mafia related to just hang out with. Vanna loved children, and he could pull off two different life styles. No he would pull both of them off. He had always wanted to mentor a younger freshling in the big sibling program. He had never been able to be there for mai as much as he wished and maybe he did just want someone who didn’t know who he was, who he would probably end up as. “Please nine don’t make me regret this. Don’t take it out on the kid. Keep them safe” he prayed before walking into the room. Instantly his eyes caught a younger chimera. He could already tell she was different. She had to be one of those Halloween babies and his heart instantly went out. He knew how the clans would have reacted to one like her.

Today was a big day for her, she was both really excited about it and sort of...terrified. Who would she get stuck with? Surely no one got paired with any bad Big Siblings in this program. That would just be silly. At first she hadn't been interested in the program at all. However, a caretaker had taken notice that she didn't really have any friend her own age and always seemed to be playing alone. It took some poking and prodding and in the end she signed up for the program just so the caretaker would stop bugging her about. I guess that meant they won. Oh well.
She had been told someone had been selected for her and so here she was. She was sitting in a chair, hand neatly folded in her lap. Her feet swung back and forth in front of her as her nerves got more and more unsettling as she thought about who'd be walking in that door. Any moment now...
She was a little surprised by who did walk in. Oh no. A Chimera. Were they raised in the Academy? Or did they possibly have a Clan? If they had a clan, why were the here to get an education? She had only been sent away because of her small wings upon her back. Oh, how she must have been such a disappointment to her parents to have been shipped away to the Academy.
She tried not to hang her head down low, to show any sort of disappointment. However, it was probably obvious to anyone that she was nervous. And when she tried to speak up it showed. "A-are you Vanna? I'm Eilwen. Thanks for being my Big Brother starting today." She'd only been told his name before meeting him, all other details had been kept a secret for their first meeting.

Vanna quickly realized that this must have been who the school had set him up with. It was true that he did have experience with younger chimeras but he didn’t really think that he would be assigned one. Still it wasn’t how he thought on the matter. Vanna wanted to give a younger child a sibling they could count on while in school. Besides he could already tell she was extremely nervous even talking to him. He didn’t think he looked that scary. In fact he was constantly told he didn’t look like his profession at all, then again he was ridiculously tall and a stranger. Gentling down his expression he gave her a small smile before thinking about his answer. “Yes I’m vanna. It’s nice to finally get to meet you Eilwen. I hope I can do a good job.” He finally decided. The caretakers had previously given him permission to possibly wander into town to get to know his newest sibling but Vanna wasn’t quite sure that it was such a good idea yet. After all if she was this nervous at school being completely alone might be a disaster. “I’m guessing they didn’t tell you much about me before this meeting. A bit silly of a practice if you ask me but little we can do about it now.” Vanna started again pulling up a chair so he was not standing at his full height and trying to come off as less threatening as possible. “Is there anything you might want to ask me?”

Well, at least he was acting nice. He also didn't seem to react too bad to her mutation. Which was....very unlike the Chimera she was used to being around back in the Scepters. Even Chimera that she had known for a long time (relatively) would still sort of...stare at her in silence, worried by her lack of wings. If only she could fly, no one seemed to care about her tails or eyes. Just her small little wings....
"They just told me your name. It some ways it was sort of...exciting not knowing more than that. In other ways...well. I was a little nervous...." She shook her hands out in front of her, trying to let go of some of her nerves. He was nice, genuinely so she wanted to believe. But would she be a disappointment to him as a Little Sister? She was worried that had already happened the moment he walked in those doors and got a good look at her. When he asked if there was anything she wanted to ask him she bite her lip a little bit. There were some things she wanted to ask him, but they should probably wait until they both knew each other better. Instead, she went with a much....safer option.
"What class do you enjoy the most?" Yes, that seemed like a good way to start things. Maybe. Her legs started to swing again as she waited for his answer.

Well at least they had thought to bring in comfortable chairs. He tried to remember what he had done for Mai when she was little and feeling nervous. However he probably shouldn’t use Mai as an example. They had grown up together and where closer in age. He had already tried to seem as less scary as he could, or maybe he could just stop analyzing what he could and couldn’t do and just be himself. It was the best way to let Eilween get to know him after all. He did have to lightly shake his head at the caretakers though. He was right that they had kept her in the dark just as much as him. Wasn’t the best method but he supposed some people did like that allure of mystery however he had never known too many kids to like surprises. So he was right that they had kept her in the dark just as much as him. Wasn’t the best method but he supposed some people did like that allure of mystery however he had never known too many kids to like surprises. “To tell you the truth I’m a little nervous myself, but since it’s our first time in the program,” Vanna started; at least he hoped it was her first time in the program. He seemed to recall that while seniors like himself could take on a couple of freshlings, freshlings were always given just one senior. “I figure we can work it out together” “Favorite class is history actually, although I suppose the magic electives like illusion and divination are pretty fun as well” Vanna answered. He also liked psychology a lot but it tended to unnerve people once they figured out who he was so it was habit to keep that class from his answers. “What are some of your favorite?”

Would it even be possible for her to ask for a different Big Sibling? Regardless, that would be pretty rude without a sound enough reason and how was she supposed to say she'd be awkward around a fellow Chimera? The Nightmares who had set this up probably thought this would be a fantastic idea. Giving her a role model that was a fellow Chimera. Did they not realize that she barely qualified as one herself? At least he was being pleasant. And her wasn't staring, that was a good sign at least.
"I really like History, or Social Studies, as well. I think there's a lot to learn from the past." She nodded her head and then perked up at the mention of magical electives. "Magic sounds like it could be fun to learn once I'm older. But for now I'll just stick to working on my models." Learning some illusion magic did seem rather cool.
"So...do you know any cool...tricks?" She was of course referring to the fact that he seemed to have studied at least some magic. Maybe he had picked up one or two cool tricks?

Vanna waited patiently for her reply. He could still read a current of awkwardness between them, although it could have been a number of things such as: meeting a new person, the fact that he was way older, he was a guy, and it could have even been something like meeting a non-mutated member of your species. He wasn’t too worried about it. He could only fix what he could fix, and he wasn’t into prying. After all since they were paired up there was plenty of time to work out what ever awkwardness there was or at least he hoped that he could work out any awkwardness there was. “There is and it’s a good way to see what was wrong in the past, what traditions and values we should throw out. As for magic, well it does depend on the teacher because some magic classes can get on the boring side, but it’s also a good thing to learn. Well at least it was for me. So many things around us depend on magic that I find it more comforting to me to know how it works.” Vanna replied. “I do in fact know a couple of cool tricks although most of them I couldn’t do in a room. We’d need to be outside for them” Vanna replied, as they could be destructive in nature, while the school was covered in charms against that type of magic, the people in the room weren’t always so lucky. He could probably get away with a small demonstration however and blew into his palm catching it on fire. As the fire settled in his palm he hummed a tune and it took shape into a small palm sized Vespercat that ran around the palm before curling up and meowing at Eilween disappearing moments later. ( the tune Vanna hummed because nasai is nerdy)

The more she got to talk to Vanna the more she decided she was okay with this arrangement. He liked history, and for a good reason as well. He seemed to have actually put a lot of thought into the classes he had chosen as his favorites. She sat there patiently, swinging her legs, and soaking in as much as he had to say as possible, nodding her head along the way.
She turned in her chair and folded her hands together, but brought them up to her chest when Vanna said he could show her a trick. Oh yes, this was bound to be pretty cool, right? Her ears twitched a bit at the sound of his humming, that was a rather peaceful tune. She wasn't really surprised when his palm caught fire, Chimera pretty famously used fire magic. In fact some kids could be rather...explosive. She was thankful she didn't cause any of her own accidents. As the Vespercat took she she let out a little gasp and even managed a small laugh before it disappeared for good. Her eyes hadn't left the sight until it was over.
"That was so cute! I'd love to do something like that one day." She stood up from her chair than, she was fairly tall of a kid her age, already showing signs of being a tall adult. "Do you think we could go outside then? That is, if you wouldn't mind showing off some more tricks?"

He let out a small smile as he realized that slowly things seemed to becoming less tense between the two of them. He hadn’t thought that the care takers made a mistake but sometimes you had to wonder. He was glad she seemed to like history as well. It gave him a lot more to talk about since half of his life was… ahahaha totally off the discussion board. Oh he once again hoped that he could keep them separate. His smile grew when she seemed to grow happier at the fire trick and almost wished that he had thought to bring his flute. He wasn’t really into big incantations and praying to the gods like some of the others used when invoking magic. He tended to learn the spell well enough that he could either cast it silently or through music. It was a bit easier for him when he had an instrument but he could shape it well enough with his voice. “If you wanted I could teach you how to do it one day and we can totally go outside I don’t mind at all showing you. We can use the courtyard that’s near this room, it should be pretty deserted this time of day.” Vanna replied standing up from his chair. It wasn’t deserted enough for him to do the trick solely on Fire magic but he had picked up illusion magic pretty quickly. It was a bit more challenging to mix the two but he could pull it off. As he lead the way outside to the courtyard he double checked to make sure it was clear of people before doing the same motions he had for the vespercat only instead of the fire starting on his palm, figures formed from the ground. Picking up a different tune he watched as they started moving around in a dance, as if telling a story, which they actually were. After about a minute they all turned towards eilween and bowed before disappearing.

"Yay~" Eilwen quietly cheered as Vanna agreed to go outside to demonstrate some more of his magic skills. It was getting a bit stuffy inside anyway, she always preferred being outdoors whenever possible. So she was also hoping the change in scenery would help her to open up some more and shake off some of the anxiety she was feeling. her tails swayed gently behind her as she walked alongside Vanna.
She scouted out the area with him, making sure whatever sort of magic he was about to cast would be safe to do so. Then as watched as he created his next little show. How could, you could swear they were real until the moment the disappeared. Magic was just so cool like that.
"Can you make buildings? Cause I want to do that when I go up. And it'd be really cool to like, project it that was for a project? Does that make sense?" Blueprints were fine and dandy, but how cool would it be if you could project the image and have people, sort of, interact with it? That'd be a really good selling point!

He always liked being outside, although he didn’t really go out as much as he would like, and when he was Vanna was inevitably doing something that kept his mind from enjoying the scenery. Well not like he wasn’t doing something that required his attention this time. Still it was good to get out of that chair. While they were on the comfy side it made Vanna wonder if Chimeras didn’t typically become big siblings as it wasn’t exactly tall chimera friendly. However the important part was that Eilwen seemed to be cheering up a bit… A building though… hmm did he know a building well enough to create it. Well he did however the school was a bit too detailed and he had already pulled off two tricks not to mention all the little stuff he had been doing in his dorm room before he came. The second place was definitely a no go; he didn’t want Eilwen anywhere near that building let alone knowing what it looked like. However there was one building that still had detail enough and he knew well enough. “Yes it makes total amount of sense. Buildings at least for me are a bit trickier so I have to know the building design pretty well but once you learn this type of magic since you like buildings you should have an easier time” He hummed a different tune and the ground sparked to life again before morphing up and into a small little replica of his friend Yami’s café. With a pulse of magic he enlarged the building so it was a bit more interactable.

Oh good, Eilwen had been worried she hadn't made any sense at all when she'd tried to explain what it was that she wanted to do with magic. She would definitely have to look into studying Illusion herself once she was older, it was definitely a good trick to have up ones sleeve! Plus, if it could help her with her future goal of becoming an Architect than it was definitely something she needed to work on!
She was quite surprised when Vanna made the building around them. She had asked more to know if it could be done, than to actually have him do it! Wow, that was definitely impressive! Any doubts she may have had about Vanna were quickly disappearing as he continued to impress Eilwen with his Illusions. Of course, anything she touched wasn't actually there, but it still looked real enough to pass!
"This is a really cafe, did you make it up? Or is it a place you know about?" It would be hard to come up with something on the spot, but perhaps Vanna was just that creative. She didn't know all that much about him after all.

“I actually know about the place, although I did make up some aspects of it. It’s a café that one of my friends owns. Well his family owns. I might be able to create a non-existing building from scratch but today has been a really heavy magic use day so it’s easier and less draining to go with what I know and then add little touches.” Vanna replied. “It’s actually a really cool place” Vanna replied, and better yet it was a ‘family’ free zone. Well at least they weren’t allowed to deal any mischief there unless they wanted to face yami’s wrath. The man was even taller than Vanna so most people didn’t want to anger him. “Maybe one day I can convince the school to let us out for a while and I can take you.” He finished. It should be in the allowed range the school allowed the big siblings to take their little siblings. He had met Iah and his little mini horde there after all. Still he was happy it seemed to have been a successful first meeting. He had been a little worried there for a while, but he had a feeling it would hopefully be good for them in the long run. He was just glad that the tension levels had dropped considerably. However next time he was definitely going to bring gloves it was getting a bit cold outside now.

Ah, so it was place he was already familiar with. That wasn't a disappointment to Eilwen at all. It was amazing that he could create it at all and it certainly inspired he to develop the magic for herself once she was older. It would be a great way to bring to life her own designs. She'd have to work with someone on decorations however. She'd just realized how much that seemed to affect the atmosphere. She definitely had a lot to think about after her introduction to Vanna. She was happy he was being so nice to her. Not shunning her away at all.
She glanced down at her feet and twiddled her thumbs a bit now. Hopefully he wasn't just playing nice with her to get through this program. "I'm sorry if I made you work too hard! Today was certainly a lot of fun for me though. I learned a lot too!" There was a little blush on her face and her twin tails gave a little wag in unison behind her at the mention of possibly going to the cafe at some point. Would that mean she'd meet one of his friends? This kindness certainly couldn't be anything more than genuine at this point.
"I-I think I w-would really like that!" She felt like her heart was beating a million miles a second. She hadn't interacted with a fellow Chimera in such a positive way in a long time. Even her own parents had sent her away after all. She tried to push those thoughts away though. They always just led to trouble.
"So I...can call you my Big Brother now?" She looked up at him shyly, but had her hands folded together in front of her as if she was praying. It was probably the most heart-warming hopeful look she could possibly pull off without actually trying to look hopeful.

Well it didn’t seem that she was too disappointed on the fact that he hadn’t created the building. However it did make him want to look at a few architecture books, especially if this did work out. She seemed really interested in the field and His breath was a little on the quick side as using magic did take some work. He knew it would be handy if for a more offensive purpose than he had shown Eilwen here today and so he always liked to push his reserves and work on his stamina. Considering the model was still up he dispelled the illusion with a flick of his wrist. “Oh… No, no it was perfectly fine. It’s always good to push myself and see what I can do. I had fun showing you so no need for apologies. I’m glad it was fun for you as well” He replied. It had been his decision to use the flashier magic after all. He hid a smile at her reaction to possibly visiting Yami’s café. Well that just settled it, he would definitely show her one day. He was if he actually thought about it, kind of excited. There would have be a few things he handled first but it would be fun…. “Well then we’ll definitely have to go. Besides if I recall that section of town has some really neat architecture even though its near asphodel the buildings are a nice blend of the different races since that quarter of town tends to attract a lot of hybrids if I recall correctly.” Vanna decided. Then Eilwen spoke again and he didn’t bother to hide the small soft smile that graced his features. Being called a big brother had always been a source of pride for him that he took seriously. So obviously there was only one answer he could give If he really thought about it. Besides the look was so hopeful who was he to really say no? “Yeah, yes you can”
