The n** of winter was slowly entering the air. Holiday lights twinkled through the streets, strewn across lamp posts and suspended between buildings and neon displays. A few last minute evening shoppers meandered through the streets, cars rolling through en route to homes or evening entertainment. Carnotite preferred these brighter lit streets for her prowling. It was so much easier to blend in here after all...
Perched on the edge of the roof of a building split between boutiques and high-end apartments in the floors above the equally high-end stores, her heels clicked against the wall as she swung her legs. Glowing eyes watched the streets, the lights atop her head blurring into the neon lights and holiday cheer around her. Some Santa display dominated the roof behind her, light bulbs mixing in well against the rest of the lights. She felt so rather warm, there among so much electricity.... it was rather wonderful. But her attention was snagged away from basking in the artificial light, head tilted as the sense of another aura trickled its way into her radar.
The third eye opened--previously closed to keep her from being distracted by so many electrical signatures around her--and she began to look about, humming a Christmas carol in almost childish delight. It was a Chaos aura. Negaverse, more precisely. The half-youma all but purred, moving to her feet and brushing off her skirt as she scanned the rooftops for the kindred soul. A stronger, higher ranking Negaverse agent. Carnotite took her time as she walked, not wanting to look too eager to meet whomever had tripped her mental radar. Though her more natural eyes searched for a body, a uniform, her third eye darted to and fro, looking for the electrical figure among the many of the city and streaks caused by hanging lights.
"My my~" She purred as she approached the figure, the lights on her head and eyes illuminating whatever space that hadn't been touched by the city's holiday delights. "Hope I'm not interrupting anything. I wanted to introduce myself~ I'm still so new to the Negaverse, I feel like I haven't gotten even the slightest chance to make any acquaintances," she sighed wistfully before smiling and placing a metallic hand against her chest, bowing slightly. "Lt. Carnotite. Whom do I have the pleasure of meeting~?"

Idly rubbing at the permanent bruise on her breastbone, Kadyrelite had gone out to patrol and, for a moment, had been caught up looking at the various light displays. As busy as she'd been, it hadn't quite hit her until this moment that the city was neck deep in the holidays.
A foolish distraction. You should take your responsibilities more seriously, child.
"I do," she muttered at the youma nestled within, though her tone lacked the resentful tinge that had characterized so many of her conversations with Strytha. "There's no harm in taking a breather. Besides, I heard you purring when you saw the lights."
I do NOT purr, little Captain. I was merely curious about them.
Smirking a little to herself, the newly minted Captain closed her eyes and let her senses stretch out as Strytha had taught her. That she and the tracker youma were still bonded was only, to her mind, a sign that General Schorl was making sure that the lesson had sunk in properly. And as the youma rarely felt the need to provide pointed and painful reminders of her place in the wide world, it barely even registered as a burden these days.
What did register, however, was a rapidly approaching Chaotic aura. She could feel Strytha's sudden interest and would have suggested they go meet whomever it was in the middle. Except... even as her mouth was opening, the mysterious personage was there in front of her. And Kadyrelite felt her eyes go wide in shock. Of all the things she could have been expecting, one of the relatively rare half-youma officers dropping in to say hello was not even in her top five. Even Strytha was shocked into silence as the brilliant little thing introduced herself.
"Well, well," she felt the youma hijack her throat in order to make it's own greetings, the voice coming out a raw, rasping hiss. "Such a polite child. I approve! We are Strytha, lovely child. The meatsack is Kadyrelite."
Rather than take offense at being referred to as 'meatsack', Kadyrelite chuckled once her voice was surrendered back and gave this Carnotite a crooked grin.
"Don't mind Strytha. It was a warped sense of humor. Show the nice lady where you are, friend."
The pain as Strytha writhed within her chest was minimal by this point. She felt bone and muscle shift as the tiny youma made itself partially visible and then gave her chest a gentle pat.
"What can we do for you, Carnotite?"Kaefaux Oh my god, I am so sorry! My brain completely derped. ;;

The hissing voice was not the sort she'd expected from the Captain's throat. Carnotite's eyes went a little wide before she composed herself, straightening as she listened to the introductions. Strytha, and Kadyrelite. Her curiosity was peaked, particularly as the Captain's voice changed.
Two voices--two minds?--one body. It was a fascinating scenario, and one that drew the lieutenant closer out of curiosity. Of course she wasn't new to the concept of merging with youma--duh--but this state was... entirely new to her.
And Strytha called her lovely. Even with the child bit, her ego preened.
Her heels clicked slowly across the rooftop as she approached, eyes focused on the woman's chest when the small youma became visible. "Oh my," she breathed, hands to her mouth as she stared in wonder. "Is that... that's not considered merging, is it?" Her eyes lifted to Kadyrelite's, lowering the brightness on her bulbs to make sure she didn't aggravate her eyes.
Realizing she was being rude jumping into questions--and thereby ignoring the Captain's--she laughed a bit and covered her mouth lightly with a hand. "My apologies, I was getting ahead of myself." Lowering her hand, she gave a small apologetic bow. "I merely came over to make your acquaintance when I felt your aura. Though I'll admit, I now am absolutely bubbling with questions about yourself and Strytha."
DaisyMilk IT'S OK.... I had finals omg. Is it ok if Carnotite can see Strytha's electrical signature under Kady's skin? Didn't mention it for now since wasn't sure if you'd be ok with that.

Even before Kadyrelite could answer the first of the eager lieutenant's questions, she felt Strytha take over her voice again and gave a purely internal sigh.
"No, sweet, child, this is not merging. Not as you know it. This is a just punishment for daring to tread where my host should not have. Shall Strytha demonstrate? We could stop little Kadyrelite's heart as she stands..."
In spite of the youma's words, Kadyrelite didn't seem to show any alarm. Instead, she hit the center of her chest hard, wincing at the flare of pain.
"Don't even think it, you little beast," she growled, for a moment forgetting that there was an audience to this little spat. "I doubt that Schorl would be pleased with you murdering me out of hand just to show off. Behave yourself."
She felt the youma's grumbling and sighed before remembering herself and turning an apologetic glance to Carnotite.
"Umm. You've got no need to apologize, Bright Eyes," she said with a slight smile, the given nickname clearly shaded as more of a pet name than an insult. "I don't mind answering questions, but Strytha pretty much summed our circumstances up nicely. We're really less a merging and more of a forced partnership. Frankly, I think you're the more interesting one."

It boggled her mind that the youma was able to take over Kadyrelite's vocals like that. Though Strytha's explanations were delightful in her elegant wording, they also served to entangle her mind in more questions. How did one place a youma inside another being without a merge? Could Strytha be removed? Safely for both? Or was that the point, in that they could no longer be separated..? Clearly Strytha had at least some level of control over the body--Carnotite opened her third eye, letting it glimpse the electrical figures beneath the skin. It was the electrical charges of the body that allowed her youma eye to glimpse what her more human eyes could not.
Such as the figure of the youma beneath Kadyrelite's skin. Two in one. Carnotite's skin prickled a bit. "Now what," she breathed, mesmerized, "on Earth did you do to become acquainted with dear Strytha?" Daring to tread..? That left quite a bit up for where exactly she'd gone. Though she could certainly take a few guesses.
The little spat only brought a bemused smile to her face. The threat of having the Captain's heart stopped aside, the partnership didn't seem to be especially strained. Though that could just be from extended time forced together, or for her benefit. Carnotite's smile only grew at the nickname, lashes batting a bit in reflex to someone mentioning her eyes as she gave a soft laugh. "You're such a darling, you know that~? I've never seen a situation like yours before, so I must say your case is by far more fascinating in my eyes."
Her gaze flicked back down to her chest, frowning ever so slightly. "Does it... hurt? Are the two of you in pain?"

Grimacing a little at the question, Kadyrelite wondered if she should even bother answering. It wasn't technically a secret, but the shame of having been punished in such a way rankled. Still, Carnotite had asked with honest intent. She deserved an answer.
Feeling Strytha's approval, she sighed and considered her words carefully.
"I asked too many questions about a subject best left alone," she said candidly. "And I showed mercy at a time when it weakened the impact of an operation run by my superiors at the time. General Schorl could have had me killed outright. Instead, I got Strytha and it's been my companion since until such time as the General deems me worthy of not needing a second conscience."
Both Captain and youma preened a little at being called darling. Admiration of any sort was always a lovely thing to receive. And in a way, Kadyrelite could see the half-youma's point. While officers like Carnotite might be rare, Kadyrelite and Strytha were the only known example of this sort of merging.
As it should be, Strytha's voice hissed in Kadyrelite's mind. Strytha shudders to think of more officers as foolish as you running amok.
Blinking a little as a new question broke her reverie, the Captain smiled slightly and shrugged.
"I doubt Strytha is in any pain other than mental or emotional. But yes. The pain is a daily reminder that I need to learn wisdom. And maybe when Strytha leaves, my sternum'll have a chance to fully heal. Don't really know."
It sounded ungracious in her ears, but Kadyrelite didn't really see the need to temporize. It was what it was. And an inner prompting from the tracker youma reminded her that, pleasant as the conversation was, she couldn't dally here all night talking. Not wanting to leave under a less than amiable atmosphere, she smiled and waved a hand towards Carnotite herself.
"I have to get going and finish my patrol, Bright Eyes. But I want to talk more to you sometime since you're the first halfer I've met."
With a final wave, Kadyrelite left the half-youma girl to resume her patrol of the city.
Kaefaux Life swallowed me whole, I am so sorry! ETA: We both met word count, so I just had Kady exit~

Carnotite gave a small, sympathetic hum of understanding as the Captain spoke, closing her third eye once more to view Kadyrelite properly. There was little room for hesitation or mercy within the Negaverse, that much was clear to even the lieutenant, yet it did not mean she scoffed at the concept. Agents were people. People were flawed, even at their best. Youma? Flawed, equally, but presented such wonderful ways to counter the flaws of humans.
"Though I am sorry to hear of what brought you to such a predicament, and of the pain it causes you, I am grateful for the chance to have met you both." Genuine words, intrigued as she was by what the youma was capable of doing, and the lesson it imposed on the Captain.
Of course, Carnotite had to admit it would have been a shame to miss out on meeting such an attractive person as it was. She would certainly be keeping an eye out for Kadyrelite and Strytha.
At the farewell, Carnotite gave a half-bow, straightening before she gave a warm smile, the bulbs atop her head glowing a bit brighter in her preening. "I look forward to meeting with you again, Captain, Strytha. It's been a pleasure." Blowing a kiss without a lick of sarcasm to it towards the departing duo, Carnotite returned to her own patrol, her mind swimming with the prospects such a meeting, and new knowledge, presented. Would Kadyrelite be able to heal fully once the youma was removed? Would Strytha be capable of life without a host, or would she require a new host to continue her existence? Briefly, she considered the youma she had merged with, noting how her experience differed immensely from Kadyrelite's.
Though, musing, she wondered what would happen if the two merged. Would such a thing even be possible? Perhaps an experiment to venture with, if Carnotite could ever find proper subjects. How else could youma be used to correct the flaws of humans..?
DaisyMilk Life ate me up pretty bad as well, I'm so sorry for how late this response was! If you ever want to have Kady and Carn meet up again though let me know!! Fin~~
