Eilwen had recently gotten her hands on a small model castle, it wasn't supposed to be based on anything real. But she had fallen in loved with the design on the bow and couldn't resist saving up to buy it herself. She had been saving the allowance that her parents gave her, small as it was, for some time now. Thankfully the school provided pretty much everything she needed to get along. So, she often spent the money her parents sent her on models, puzzles, and other fun things.
She was sitting in the common room and working on getting the various pieces organized. She didn't have enough room in her dorm to really work properly, plus she didn't want to hog all the space from her other roommates. So, with all of her pieces organized she flipped to the instructions. The model she bought came with the pieces colored already, so at least she didn't have to paint anything. She just need to fit the pieces together and use the occasional bit of glue. With that, she got started.
nepsah Short beginning is short! Haha

Korvau had some free time- and he'd already been running around, checking in on his friends, but his caretaker had corralled him into the common room for an undetermined amount of time. Normally, he'd be pretty bummed about that. As big as the common room was, it was still indoors. He jogged slowly around the perimeter of the room, looking to see if he recognized anyone... Nope. No one that he'd really had a conversation with. He was just about to go plead to be let out again when he spotted something.
He stopped dead in his tracks, nearly toppling over himself. What was THAT!? He perked up, ears raising high, tail wagging excitedly as he ran over to the object of interest. That. Happened to be in progress by a chimera? freshling. "HI!" He piped up excitedly as he came to stop next to her, tail still wagging excitedly. "I'm Korvau. What's your name?? What's that?? Are you making it? Where did you get it from? I like your wings!" Never one for pausing, Korvau immediately launched into a barrage of questions the instant he'd gotten out a greeting.

This had been going smoothly so far. Her two tails gently sway behind her as she worked, just a small sign showing that she was actually enjoying herself. Her peace didn't last for long. She didn't even have time to register that there was someone next to her before the very loud greeting caught her off guard. Thankfully she didn't have anything in her hands to send flying because they shot into the air in a panic and her little wings flapped wildly behind her, although they didn't do the least bit to budge her out of her seat.
As if to make things worse they just kept talking and asking questions. All the while Eilwen was just trying to calm herself back down. It felt like her heart was beating a million times a second. She managed to turn her eyes toward the other freshling only after they had already blurt out everything they had to say. She had caught something about her name, what she was doing, and her wings...he liked her wings? A little blush creeped across her face, though more out of embarrassment than anything else.
She took a deep breathe and a moment to collect herself. She straightened up in her chair and her tails stopped wagging. The manners she'd be taught instantly caught up with her. She tried to answer his question in order. "I'm Eilwen. This is a model. It's going to look like a castle eventually. Um...well. I saved up some money and my caretaker took me to buy it. And um, thank you....I like your tail." Her voice was gentle, though not quiet. She knew that it was proper to speak clearly. The only time she usually had a problem doing so was when she had to talk out loud in class....in front of everyone.
"Would you like to see how it works?" She offered the little instructions booklet to the small hybrid. She wasn't exactly tiny herself and in fact towered over a lot of the other kids her age. This littler guy however....he must really tale after his Imp parent. She knew from her studies that they tended to be pretty small. At least he had the 'adorable' factor working for him....
nepsah Oh my Goodness. Korv. You cutie. ♥

True to his usual self, he had no idea that he'd frightened the poor Chimera at all, even when she'd thrown up her hands. He just thought she was waving! Maybe it was a Chimera greeting... he didn't have any Chimera friends, after all! So, naturally, he mimicked her and threw up his own hands, tail wagging even more. "Nice to meet you! Eilwen is a pretty name I like it! Ooh A CASTLE?!" He practically screamed, obviously delighted by the fact that it was, indeed, a castle.
Korvau took the offered instructions and looked them over, though... quickly found himself confused. How... did this work? What? That part connected to this part... which connected to those other pieces... which were all connected to that other stuff? What??? He furrowed his brows, mouth pursing into a frown as he tried to figure it out. His tail slowed to a gentle wag, and then stopped, ears dropping as he concentrated.... Nope.
After a few moments he held it back out for her to take. "I dunno what this means! But it looks cool!!"
Yep. Good going, Korvau.

Eilwen was trying really hard not to cover her delicate little ears everytime Korvau yelled. He did realize they were indoors right? It was sort of rude to the other people inside to be yelling. Unless you were in trouble, then yell as much as you like. "Yes a castle. It's not based on any real one though..." She had picked it because it's design was unique, which was probably why it wasn't actually based on a real castle. She didn't think some of these towers would actually be practical in real life. The supports would be weird...
She glanced around the room as the little hybrid looked over her instructions. There were some caretakers and other kids looking their way. Looks like Korvau had managed to attract some attention. Don't get upset Eilwen, he was just a really friendly character. She couldn't help but smile a little bit when Korvau handed her the instructions back. Were they that hard to understand? Maybe she just knew them better because she'd worked on so many models at this point.
"Well, did you want to see how they work? Sometimes the best way to learn to do something is to just watch someone else." The least she could do was be friendly to the hybrid, he had been nothing but kind to her. Even if, she might think he could be a little...over the top. Yeah. That was the right word for it....

Once again, he was oblivious to the amount of attention he was attracting. Ah well. A nearby caretaker did motion to him to lower his voice, though. He nodded apologetically in response before looking back to Eilwen. Oooh, she was going to show him how to build it?! He grinned, bouncing on the balls of his feet a little. "Ooh yes yes yes! I want to see!!"
While his excitement level certainly did not change, his voice was reduced to a forced whisper. Or, well, what a really excited child might call a whisper. It was still very audible, but not ear shattering. "Do you make a lotta castles?? Or do other stuff?? I don't really build anything. I like to run! And swim! Swimming is my favorite." He babbled cheerily, watching her but still somehow managing to talk about other things.

"There are some nightmares that don't even need the instructions." Eilwen replied in a voice full of awe. She needed them, they were like a finely tuned blueprint. There was won time when she had tried to see how far she could do without looking at them, but when she missed a rather important piece there wasn't really any salvaging the project. And so, for now, she stuck to the instructions that came with the model.
She flipped to the page she had been on before giving the instructions to Korvau and then gestured for him to take a seat next to her. As she figured out where she had left off and started to put them together again she answered his questions. "I've built other things before. A bridge, a small model of the Academy, and some other famous structures.." It was sort of fun to actually talk to someone about these things. She didn't really have all that many friends her own age...
"Ah, I'm not very good at swimming. But it is nice to get outside and run!" She enjoyed the outdoors period, but there was something about stretching her legs and seeing how fast she could get them moving that was entertaining.

Korvau blinked, ears perking up to full height. "Reaaally?!" He whispered loudly in disbelief. There were people who could build something like that without looking at the instructions?! Well-- Korvau was pretty sure Iah could do that. Maybe Willow, too! Willow was super smart, and so was Iah... "I bet my Big Brother could do that. He's reaaaaaally smart." He nodded hurriedly, and then clumsily climbed into the chair Eilwen had pointed out for him.
"Woooow, that's a lot of stuff! Did'ja save it somewhere??" His tail wagged as he spoke, nearly hitting his own head in its erratic movement. "Running is really fun!! I like to play in the relay-races they do during playtime! It's the best. But they neeeever do a swimming relay race and that is not the best." He huffed, puffing his cheeks out in a childish pout.

It was amusing just how excited Korvau seemed to be about...well, everything. If Eilwen had half the enthusiasm he seemed to have bottled up in him maybe she'd have a few more friends herself. Ah well, it's not like she really minded being alone. She had to models to work on, books to read....and definitely other things. Yup. It was not a waste of time to be alone. At least that's what she told herself.
"I have some in my room. And I have some back at home." Eilwen nodded, forgetting for a moment that a majority of the other students at the Academy didn't really have a home outside of the Academy. She nodded her head as he continued to go on about the his adventures during playtime. She hadn't taken place in any of the relays outside. But the more she thought back to them, she could sort of picture the small little Imp running around out there. There were quite a large number of students on this campus though. It wasn't much of a surprise that she'd seen him somewhere before, even in passing.
She chuckled a little bit when he said they never had swimming relay races. "Maybe is some of the PE classes for older student we'll have some swimming relay races!" While she could swim, her wings made it a bit of a challenge to do it very well.

"Back home?" He stopped his rambling to ask the question, and tilted his head. Ooooh, she had a family too! ]"Ohhh!!! I don't got one of those but -- WELL, 'cept here is nice!! - but I gotta lotta friends that do." He nodded, as enthusiastic as ever. "Do you go sleep there at night?? That's what my friend Willow does." Well, that was what he did before, but Korvau wasn't sure about now. He may be completely unaware of other peoples' comfort zones, but there were just some things he knew better than to ask about...
"OH BOY!! DO YOU THINK SO!?" Welp. Goodbye, volume control, hello excited screeching. Korvau just couldn't help it at the mention of the possibility that Mr. Kirket would let them do a swimming relay race when they got older. Oh man. He couldn't wait to grow up, suddenly!

Well, Eilwen instantly felt bad for bringing it up, especially when Korvau said he didn't have a home. She was lucky that she had one, even if she had essentially been kicked out of it. What kinda of family would want a daughter that couldn't fly. She couldn't remember her parents ever getting mad at her, but she could remember those sad looks in their eyes. "No, I live here on campus. My family lives waaaay back in the Scepters." She nodded her little head matter of factly.
She might have twitched a little bit at the screaming, but she tried not to act as startled by it as she had been the first time. Note to self; Korvau could get loud unexpectedly. She'd just have to keep that in mind when he was around. She was just a little jumpy by nature. "Well, we do have a rather large pool on campus. And swimming is a pretty important part of physical activity. I'd say once the weather warms up it's a good possibility." She nodded again as she kept her eyes and hands focused on her task at hand. It was really starting to come along nicely. One of the spires was already complete.

"WOOAAAAHHHHH." He gasped aloud, assuming that was what he should do, anyway. He didn't really know how far away the Scepters were, but they sounded like they were suuuuuuuper far away. "Are... are those mountains...?" Suddenly he remembered that Chimeras were supposed to live in mountains... hopefully that wasn't a dumb question.
"That's true!!" He bounced a bit in place on his seat, tail wagging excitedly. "I'm really excited! I wanna have aaaaaaaaaaaallllllll the swim relay races!" He nodded, then finally looked at what she was doing again. "Woooow... It looks really cool!"

"Yeah, they're really big mountains in Boreas." Eilwen certainly didn't think it was a dumb question. If you hadn't been somewhere, it was usually not something you knew of off the top of your head. She was a small history buff herself, but that was an exception. There was certainly no judging on her part based on the question however.
"Well, since you've been spending time with me while I do my things, I'd enjoy spending time with you doing something you liked." She nodded her head, although swimming wasn't something she was really all that great at. However, it Korvau would enjoy kicking her butt at swimming, she wouldn't mind doing it just for the fun of it. She just has one too many tails to keep up with while she was swimming around.
She looked back to her model than, she didn't think she'd have time to get it done by the end of the day and it was getting pretty close to dinner time about now. "This is probably a good stopping place for now. It's about time for dinner too. Will you be heading to the cafeteria?"
nepsah I figure we could end with them going to dinner together, maybe? c':

"OOOOHHHH." He nodded enthusiastically, suddenly remembering the picture books a caretaker had read to him once. The Sceptors had been in them! But he didn't quite remember that until Eilwen mentioned Boreas. He tilted his head at her next statement, then grinned widely. "Yay!! We should play tag!!" He clapping his hands together excitedly. "Since we can't swim the relay races yet!"
Speaking of dinner time... He perked up as the bell signalling dinnertime rang. "Oh boy! I was getting pretty hungry, I'm glad it's dinner time!" He slid off of his seat, and then offered a hand to Eilwen. Hand-holding was what friends did, right? He held Nex's hand all the time! And he'd do the same for Willow but Willow didn't like it....
"Yeah!! We can go together!"
Leopleuradon souuunds good! We can call this an end unless you wanna put in another post!

Tag, well at least running around was better than swimming in her opinion. It would be a good way to work off dinner as well, maybe she'd have an extra dessert today as a way to treat herself for making a new friend! Had she made a friend? Korvau certainly seemed nice enough, and he hadn't turned down her offer for them to play together later! That seemed to point to them being friends. Or at least, they were working their ways towards that.
"I'm pretty hungry after all that hard work as well." Eilwen slide out of her chair as well, and finally got a good look at how small Korvau was when she was standing up. So tiny, so cute, and so full of energy. How did all of that enthusiasm fit into that small little body? She blinked at the hand that was offered to her, no one had tried holding her hand before except for her parents. Oh gosh, was that a thing friends did? Not wanting to offend the hybrid she took the hand gently in her own.
"I'd be happy to join you."
nepsah I'm so proud of you Eilwen! QAQ~ -claps-
