A branch crackled underfoot and the brightly patterned mare glared lightly at one of her deer companions. They weren't in any immediate danger, she was sure, but it never hurt to be cautious in a new place. He smiled in apology before resuming his walking, nudging lightly into his sister who had paused to watch the interaction and smirk. 'Nemo is upset with you~' her eyes seemed to mock.

She rolled her eyes at the siblings, "Enough. Just be more careful, we don't know these lands. I left without protection and I know the others will never let me live it down if we get attacked out here."

Still, Nemo couldn't bring herself to return to the herd just yet. There was something about being in a new place that just uplifted her very soul, and she was loathe to stop her explorations. This had been the first call for her particular brand of medicine and who knew when the next would be. It was fun traveling in a group but Mnemosyne thrived when she was allowed to just wander around and take everything in.

With a wistful sigh she acknowledged that it had been a while since she'd checked in anyway. It would probably be best if she began to make her way back in earnest, she didn't want her sisters to worry after all.

Tahir had left his brothers for a while. Although nothing had been said about it he believed that they had been growing concerned for his welfare. The decision to leave was not taken lightly but that was what Tahir had done. In order to allow his family some peace he had taken it upon himself to vacate the general area that they had found temporary shelter. The pale white unicorn stumbled across another log. He had been traveling nonstop for what seemed like ages. In reality it had been less than half a day. The passage of time did not register with Tahir; locked up in his memories as he was. Instead of observing the sun's passage across the sky the stallion's senses were held hostage to the horror from the past. He violently shook his head back and forth before returning to the present once more.

There was time to avoid the next obstacle in his way at least. The stallion inched his way across a shallow stream without tripping over the uneven stones on the bottom. Stopping halfway Tahir lowered his head to drink of the pristine waters that flowed around his hooves. At least the water seemed potable and safe to drink for now. All at once the sound of a snapping branch caused Tahir to rear in alarm. He landed awkwardly and splashed noisily out of the stream. Was there danger afoot? He shied nervously as he waited for a sign that he would need to dart into the shadows. There was a faint hope that he was overreacting but Tahir's mind was already thinking the worst case scenario.

Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard a splashing noise ahead of them and she was immediately ready to flee. The deer at her side also snapped to attention, poised to run after their mistress at a moment's notice. "Stay here," she whispered to them. If there was something ahead that she couldn't handle, the tiny cervids would no doubt be in an even worse situation. She ignored their protests, silencing them with a firm glance and made her way forward as quietly as she was able.

It was with a sigh of relief that she saw it wasn't some predator but a white soquili which had made the noise, and her healer instincts immediately flooded into the space left behind by her dissipated fear. "Are you okay?" she asked in concern, because something must have caused the other to stumble.

Tahir's sense of preservation was slowly fading at the appearance of the brightly colored mare. Having always been in the company of other unicorns there was some confusion as to what this dainty creature was. She had the strangest looking horn jutting out from her forehead and on closer inspection she had a similar tail structure. Did this mean that she was a unicorn like himself? Almost before he could blurt out a stupid comment Tahir noticed the one thing that differed between himself and this stranger. She had what appeared to be scales running along her flank and legs. Closing his eyes in mild disappointment Tahir mutely shook his head back and forth for a moment. Was this mare just another figment? Considering that he'd picked up the sound of her voice it was unlikely but he had to be sure. With trepidation Tahir began to close the distance between himself and the new arrival.

As he neared her position Tahir began registering that there was tangible evidence that this mare was no figment. Figments usually did not leave hoof prints behind them. Perhaps this was real then. There was one more test. He raised his eyes to meet the mare's and silently begged her to forgive his intrusion into her space. Less than a second later Tahir's muzzle reached out to touch the side of her neck. He needed the tactile sensation of a warm body to completely convince himself that she was indeed real.

Nemo watched him take her in, and conducted a little bit of observation herself. Her first thought was that of concern at his eyes, they were white and so her first instinct was that he was blind and had stumbled into the stream by accident. She mentally discounted the possibility as she watched his eyes dart from feature to feature, but wondered if he had any other related vision problems. The look in his seemingly blank eyes made her nervous, but not for herself. It was first one of confusion, then one of something she couldn't quite place but which reminded her of fear.

As she was debating asking again after his well-being, he began to move nearer to her. She didn't sense any ill intent behind the careful movement, so she stayed put to see what he would do. Part of being a healer was observing what her patients told her both verbally and non, so her family tended towards skill in reading body language. Her curiosity was rising and he hadn't answered her question. So far his actions were indicating that he was not okay, so when he leaned into her neck she simply allowed the contact. Slightly curving her neck into the touch, she spoke softly "Please, are you alright?"

At the first sign of tangible contact Tahir breathed a little easier. He had been so sure that the mare had not been real. Oddly enough she had allowed the contact to occur and even leaned into it. Tahir cocked his head to the side as she once again spoke softly towards him. Whuffling softly Tahir watched the play of his breath on the mare's mane before pulling away. He would have to answer this non figment. He took a few steps backwards before letting his gaze settle on this stranger. A sigh escaped his frame before he cleared his throat. His voice was soft from disuse. "I do not believe I am alright."

Tahir's gaze swung to the left and then to the right. "I do apologize for what might seem like odd actions. I feel that I always need to make sure that things that appear before me are real."

With that said Tahir groaned softly. He realized what had been said before this strange mare. Why was it that he could not hold back from telling that specific piece of intel? "I fear that I am going insane. I cannot tell what is real and what is not anymore."

Nemo frowned as the odd unicorn stepped away from her. "Not at all, I was happy to help and it seemed like you needed something...solid for a moment." she replied. Other than the first time she heard him splashing, she hadn't sensed any negative intentions from him, rather his actions made her grow more and more concerned about him.

At his next words, she grew alarmed and made an aborted move to return the touch he had bestowed upon her. "I don't know what to say..." she trailed off. With a determined glint in her eye she reconsidered initiating contact with him. She knew all about ailments of the body and treatments for them, but she was less accomplished in the mind arts.

All she could do for now was gently place her nose on his neck in an imitation of his actions and reassure him, "Well, I'm real. I promise. I can stay with you for a while if you like? I'm a healer and I'd like to try to help you."

It didn't matter that she'd just met him and in fact didn't even know his name (though that reminded her to introduce herself), "I'm Mnemosyne, but you can call me Nemo.", he had an aura about him that spoke to her empathy and her instinct to help no matter what.

Tahir was not sure why he'd mentioned his possible ailment to this total stranger. Was it because he was tired of trying to hide the fact? The unicorn male sighed softly as he shook his head before realizing that this mare was actually returning his gesture. "I did need something real to ground me. I thank you for that. It is nice to meet you Mnemosyne. My name is Tahir."

Looking back towards the direction he had traveled in Tahir sighed. It would possibly make things tenser between his brothers and himself but he felt that perhaps this mare might be able to help him. The stallion grimaced again before letting Nemo's quiet presence register. She was still here. It'd do well for him to focus on her rather than the images in his mind. "You'll have to forgive me Nemo for my rather alarming statement but I feel that it could be true. Any help that you could give me would be appreciated. It seems that I cannot heal myself of this ailment nor does it seem my brothers can help me either."
