This year for our winter event, we're doing giftboxes again -- an event in which we offer 'grams' that you can keep or give to a friend, and which can be claimed for semi-customs from our fabulous colorists!
This time around we're offering a whopping 200 semi-customs: 100 kin and 100 familiars. But we're offering them in a different sort of way...
While a good number of these boxes will be poured into random raffles that will happen on weekends [with the stipulation that boxes won in these raffles MUST be given away, and can't be kept], the rest will be offered out in scattered raffles through the events, in which tickets are bought with IC tokens.
"How do I get tokens?" you might ask. Well. That's where the fun begins.

THE MATOPE WINTER MARKET:
This year, there will be a special subforum dedicated to the Matope Winter Market. In this subforum, many staff members will set up booths with games, activities, or other events that will allow you to win or collect tokens for your efforts! More details about this will come, but there's another aspect we're offering up --
We're allowing any of you to set up your own booth -- that also gives out tokens!
The event isn't starting until the 15th of December, running for approximately 3 weeks, but we're giving a little 'pre-game' time for you guys to come up with ideas and submit write-ups of your booth to be approved!
Booths can involve dice/luck games, artistic chops, or writing exercises. Read on for some staff shop examples to get your creative juices flowing.
Deathcap, through wanderings in the swamp, has managed to collect quite an assortment of strange-looking mushrooms. Some of them look familiar, she thinks, and none of them are poisonous -- but she's quite interested in finding out exactly what kind of results they might have on kin anatomy.
"For that," she says, "I need volunteers."
It seems a bum deal, and not many are inclined to take up her offer, so with a sigh, she rolls her eyes.
"Fine. And I'll give you tokens for your efforts. Just take a mushroom and report back to me on what happened.
Warily, it seems, you agree.
__________
OOC:
The OOC mechanics of this game are simple. Roll 3d10 and match the three numbers you roll to to the list below. Select a kin you own [or invent one, if you own none] and write up a post describing the amazing trip your kin has, and post it:
NO SPOILERS, you'll have to see the list when the event starts!
Once you've posted the above, it's time for you to write again! Take the same numbers from above and match them to the below list -- what actually happened to your kin. Write a second post describing what their trip looked like from an outside POV:
NO SPOILERS, you'll have to see the list when the event starts!
Once you've completed both sections, you can collect 1 token for your efforts, with a limit of one per day. If you reach 500 words total between your two posts, you can claim this as one legendary requirement, with a limit of one per kin period.

CAN YOU and NEGATIVE'S TREASURE FLIP GAME!
This is one of the weirdest looking games in the market. There are twenty crudely fashioned clay half shells placed open side down on a patch of firm-packed earth, all about the same size. One kin, a scruffy, gaunt and purple kimeti buck, stands behind the shells, gently tending a pile of - well, what looks like a little bit of everything. Another kin, this one a saucy black and orange acha doe, dances to and fro in front of them, tossing her head and calling a challenge to the crowd;
"Come and have a go! Flip a shell, keep what you find! Everyone's a winner!"
Well, how bad can it be?
Very bad, it turns out, as one participant "wins" a nose full of sawgrass and brambles, and another finds a mongoose carcass that's definitely past its prime. The acha laughs loudly at both of them. But still others come away with much nicer prizes - or at least much fresher food.
The acha's noticed you standing there staring. "Hey! You gonna try your luck, or what?"
Well? Are you?
Mechanics are a 2d10 roll with a grid of possible prizes, one roll per user per day. IC reaction optional but appreciated, possibly with a small reward for best of day. Prize list changed daily or at random, includes kin drawings, IC rewards/"rewards," and raffle tokens, in amounts from 1 to 5 with the rare and coveted 10. Players can, of course, also shoot the breeze with either Negative or Can You.

HELP ALBATROSS CULL THE HERD
Albatross' bane has multiplied. There is no longer just one cross-eyed furby; seems like her idiot stalker has taken on a new recreational hobby. The swamp has been redecorated with multiplying furbies running amuck. The lost doe has turned to the swamp to help with population control. And with the holiday season at hand, bloodsport is an appropriate and festively colorful way to pass the increasingly long evenings.
Each day, a user submits a suggestion on how to get rid of this tiny little problem, and in turn they receive 1 token. The best, creative or most amusing suggestion of the day gets 2 additional tokens. The 24 hour day resets at midnight EST.
In addition:
Rise & Shine > cracking an egg! The Friends > artistic/paint by numbers bouquet! Wishing Well > well wishes wishing well! Merry Wanderer > sing a silly or a serious carol! Woodwind > hide and go seek scavenger hunt! Wood Spider > pinecone decoration collage/art challenge!

RUN YOUR OWN BOOTH:
If the above hasn't inspired you enough, please feel free to ask for help from staff members in the blast chat or main thread, and brainstorm ideas there! Once you have a concept for your booth, please fill out the following form and post it in this thread for approval.
If your concept is close but needs tweaking, we'll gladly help you make it work. Remember that the more booths are set up in this event, the more tokens people can get, the more people can throw into the raffles [which should be, roughly, once every 3 days during the event!]
Note that user-run booths can only give out a prize of one token per participant per day, so keep that in mind when designing your booth, but you're more than welcome to add other prizes of your own -- such as art you draw for winners, or gaia items!
NOTE: Signups are open until Dec 14! I am personally out of the country until Dec 9th, but am happy to help out anyone who wants to brainstorm or refine their idea once I'm back, starting the 10th!
THE FORM:
Your Username: Kin Running Booth: which of your kin is running it? If you have no kin, sorry, you'll just have to participate in other booths! Name of Booth: What's the name of your booth? One sentence booth concept: Describe it in one sentence. Mechanics: Give the mechanics of your game, including specific dice rolls if required. Not all booths need dice rolls! it could be an art event [they have to draw something, or color something] or a writing game [they have to respond to a prompt].
Your Username: Scaramouche Fandango Kin Running Booth: Welcome Home Fair Hunter Name of Booth: Fair Hunter's Fishing Fun One sentence booth concept: A fishing pond- kin have to close their eyes, dunk their heads in, and try to catch a fish... or something else, like a frog or a newt or a rock, as there's lots of things in this murky pond. Mechanics: 20-sided dice roll with a luck component; the idea is that you trade your catches for tokens. Some catches give nothing, some give tokens, and others give "art" and by "art" I mean "weird, silly MS Paint drawings of your kin."

Your Username: JesterJinx Kin Running Booth:Licks Icicles Name of Booth: Lick's Icicle Target Toss One sentence booth concept: Each IC kin stands to the side and tosses an icicle down onto a target dug into the snow below from a bit of height, wherein there are specific target numbers to land on with a limited number of throws a day. Mechanics: I will draw a target with numbers stating 10, 20, 30, and 40. Each post, the OOC player rolls a random number from 1 to 50, and if they land on any of those 4 numbers, they win a token. They can roll up to 10 times a day, with only 1 token going out per winner.
Your Username: LOLLI qAq Kin Running Booth: Pear Flower & Peach Blossom Name of Booth: Polite Society's Great Seed Fiasco One sentence booth concept: Something has gotten into Polite Society's seed storage and scattered them across the tribe's "lands" (actually just the spot of land behind the booth); help find as many seeds as you can to earn tokens! Mechanics: Three times per day roll 1d10, and post a 1-3 sentence description of your kin searching, in order to find some of the missing seeds. Once the searching kin has found 25 seeds (this may take a few days so make sure to keep track) they may redeem them for 1 token.
Remember: Each player can only search/roll 3 times a day and they must describe their kin searching in order for the roll to count.
If you are new and do not have a kin use of an imaginary kin is acceptable.

Mechanics/Game Has Changed
Your Username: Magician Arcana Kin Running Booth: Death Brings Change Name of Booth: Story Time One sentence booth concept: Tell DBC a delightful story and he will give you a token of gratitude Mechanics: Originally I was going to make madlibs... But I have learned I am not good at madlibs. Oops.
So the mechanics have been simplified. Daily users can roll 3d20 to find 3 words on 3 seperate lists. Also Daily, the genre will change. They must then craft these words into two or more sentence stories that follow the new genra. It can be as simple or complex as they want.
Players can earn their daily coin and the stories that make me really laugh or I really enjoy might get a special something at the end of the event (probably some gold or a doodle).
Your Username: Lural Kin Running Booth: Dog Name of Booth: What's in a name? One sentence booth concept: A straight up raffle! Mechanics: Once a day, users can write out name glyphs for their kin to be entered into a drawing! IC it would be dog pulling scraps of bark or something out of a turtle shell; in actuality, it will be a RNG each day. Users can draw as many glyphs as they like, but only 1 raffle ticket per person per day.
----------------------
Your Username: Lural Kin Running Booth: Tangled web Name of Booth: Do you hear what I hear? One sentence booth concept: A story/song writing contest! Mechanics: Every couple days, a new prompt will be give given for kin to write a (World appropriate) story or song for the winter season. Prompts may include OOC concepts like the Christmas or Hanukkah stories, or making a Matope-appropriate Christmas carol. They will be subjectively judged based on how well I think the story or song is written.

Your Username: iStoleYurVamps Kin Running Booth: Deep Water Fears Name of Booth: Pool of Mystery One sentence booth concept: Touch things and guess what they are. Mechanics: rolling 2d10 Matope must dip a hoof into a pool of dark water and describe what they think it is they have encountered. First die is what pool/what they feel, second is if they are 'right' as determined by Deep Water Fears.
Side game is 20 Qs, each matope may ask one question about an item they encountered a day, and the one who guesses correctly gets a very special fish the DWF caught! Collaborative, matope know what each other has asked/answers in traditional 20qs fashion. Once an item hits 20q, no more Qs, just guesses. If 10 guesses go by an no one is right, new item will be brought in.
Your Username: Moonstone Dazzle Kin Running Booth: Gecko Name of Booth: Super Duper Kissing Booth! One sentence booth concept: The player rolls one ten-sided die, and kisses a frog- or a Gecko! Mechanics: The kin approaches the booth, and gets to kiss a frog! Someone got the idea in Gecko's head that kissing a frog... turns them into a handsome kin? Weird. But hey! It means that you have a very easy opportunity to score some sweet loot off of her! (Player rolls, and types up a 100+ word response for credit!)
1. You kiss a frog. Blech. Gecko nods approvingly, and gives you some fresh fruit for your trouble. 2. You... miss the frog's mouth. Gecko is extremely disappointed, and sends you on your way. 3. You feel disinclined to kiss the frog, suddenly. Gecko is sad, but understands. 4. You give that frog a great big smooch! Gecko is pleased, and gives you a token. 5. The frog... isn't there? Gecko panics, and runs off to find her friend. Sorry! No kiss for you! 6. You end up kissing... a toad? Gecko is upset. This is not a frog AT ALL. Nonetheless, you get some fruit for your trouble. 7. You kiss... Frog. Uh-oh. That... that wasn't supposed to be for you. Gecko laughs nervously, and gives you a token. You stumble off drunk from this weird, toxic creature. 8. There is no frog to kiss. Instead, you kiss Gecko! The doe is pleased. Her next door neighbor, Fair Hunter, is NOT, and gives you a token on the promise this will not happen again. (Note- if you kiss Gecko twice, Fair Hunter just scares you off. No token today!) 9. Gecko is on union break! No kiss for you. 10. You end up kissing a fish. Why is there a fish? "Oh, sorry!" Gecko chirps, laughing. "That's my lunch!" The acha she stole the fish from doesn't seemed thrilled at off.

Your Username: Shaddaling Kin Running Booth: Blood on the Sands and Burning Legion (Blood and Conquest) Name of Booth: Find the lambs before the wolves eat them One sentence booth concept: Dice rolling sort of CYOA game Mechanics: This is complicated but basically
At the start of the game, two numbers will be rolled. One between 20-40 will assigned to Joke, and one between 80-100 will be assigned to Gorge jumper.
Each player has 24 roll (representing the hours of a day) to find Joke and Gorge without being eaten by a wolf (Certain kin), being bit by a poisonous snake (Zikwa's) or road blocked by a bear (certain kin) or having wolves called down on them by a rabbit (certain acha).
Each roll is random number generated between 1-100 with each number assigned a prompt - example
11-?? ( will either bring up a kin, helpful or dangerous)
9 - Your kin finds a nest of eggs! + 1 point Do they a - eat the eggs? - loose one turn but + 1 towards outrunning wolves b. Mark the nest as theirs - loose one turn c. Continue onward? Roll as normal
17. That looks like a totoma track, you must be on the right path + 4 points
Points are added up to equal the number needed into finding Joke, and then the kin continues on their journey to find Gorge. Points can also be used to buy items (Below)
There are helpful characters The sisters- sell items for points that can be used to bypass a wolf or treat a snake bite.
Two of the Rabbits when found will give the players hint in finding Jump and Gorge
Kin encounters are all marked as ???, when a kin is encountered, they quote me, I find them on the list and post if the Kin is a Wolf, Rabbit, Sister, Snake, or Bear and ask what action they wish to take which can be Attack, Run Away, Use an item/ buy an item( Items allow for increase avoidance or to bypass the encounter completely) or if the Kin can be Bribe depending on actions previous to the encountered. (Kins have different items in the prompts they can be bribed with)
After the first encounter, the action mechanics chosen by the player will be posted to help speed the game along.
Ex. If they choose bribe, that kins bribe stats will be posted so players who have that item can simply bribe them and move on.
They can attempt to play three times example : first play through , a Wolf takes them down, they can try again with another kin. (each attempt has to be played through completely before starting a new life - either you find Joke and Gorge or end up taken out)
Tolkens given out ( 3 per game) First to who ever first finds Joke and Gorge. Second to who ever kills the most wolves (Because Blood and Conquest are blood thirsty) Third is rp subjective.
Other prizes... My inventory is out of control. I will be tossing items out like crazy.
(Holiday season are busy but most of my school work will be done, so I'm hoping to get a game ending and a new one up every two or three days)
