It didn't occur to her at first. It didn't even brush her conscious with the thought until a friendly, elder phony had made a passing comment. ("Ah, I had a cart like that years ago. I wonder whatever happened to it...") She'd tried to laugh it off, continued to use the cart often but every glance made her pause. It'd been left and buried in the snow; it was rightfully hers. It was. Wasn't it? The seed had been planted and from there it could only grow.

Spick n Span huffed; she couldn't take the guilt anymore. She was going to crack into a million pieces if she didn't do something. Which is how she'd ended up in front of one of the many notice boards littered throughout the city. Rearing onto her hind hooves, she pinned a flyer up.

Notice boards were oft a fine place to find ponies in need of help and assistance. Being a great knight in training, this was obviously the sort of thing Lance needed to partake in. A spring in his step, the young unicorn headed for the nearest notice board, bound and determined to help out a helpless innocent today. Just Lance, afterall, was nothing if not great and... well, just!

His canter slowed as he noticed a young filly near his age at the board. She didn't seem the type to be answering the call- perhaps a snap judgment, but there was a look of concern in her eyes. Well! That was mostly certainly a pony in need, then! Clearing his throat, Lance stepped forward to approach her.

"Beg your pardon, miss- you seem troubled." He offered her a reassuring smile, and turned his glance to the board. "May I offer you my assistance in your issue with your..." well. It would probably be helpful to read the ad.

"...Your wagon?"

Flyer straight, the phony dropped her front hooves to the ground. One posted. She turned, intent on finishing papering the town, only to come face to face with another phony. And as one brother was accustomed to dirt, she did what she usually did when confronted with an unexpected (possibly filthy) face. She shrieked.

It was a short-lived sound and as soon as she got her bearings, "I'm sorry! You startled me." She did look quite sheepish and apologetic, at least.

When the filly shrieked, Just Lance jumped- not terribly dignified, but it was not the response he was expecting. With his heart racing, the little unicorn met eyes with the girl. At the very least, she seemed just as surprised as he was. Laughing a bit nervously, Lance shook his head.

"It's quite alright!" He assured, smiling at her. A dignified young lady, despite the startle. Lance raised a hoof and gestured to the poster.

"So... your wagon?"

Tidy turned her head to look at what the colt was pointing at, "Oh, right, my wagon!" She turned back to him, "My brother and I found it buried in the snow, awhile back. I," she paused, letting out a sigh, "Well, I thought since it'd been buried in snow it wasn't wanted but I realize, now, I might be wrong. I'm looking to see if I can find its owner."

It was rather beat up still -- blue paint had faded and been scratched off the wood -- save for the inside which she'd helped clean and sand. If it wasn't claimed, she'd clean it up entirely. Perhaps even give it a nice fresh coat of paint or stain.

"You've put up posters, so that's a good start!" Just Lance cheered, smiling brightly at the newly met filly. Her desire to do the right thing was remarkable! There may have been a knight's spirit in this one yet! He looked between the rickety little wagon and the girl, and thought.

"Perhaps... perhaps we could go knock on some nearby doors? See if anyone in the area recognizes it, or owned it?" It was worth a shot, anyway. If nobody in the area near where she had found it... well, it would not be too harmful to give the lovely thing a good home. She had cleaned it up so nicely, after all.

"And... what is your name?"

"It's such a hope and pray the right person sees them though," she frowned. It really didn't bode well for the previous owner. But she had little idea what else could be done, until he spoke up about knocking on doors.

The filly's ears perked, "There are quite a few homes near the park!" A bright grin lit her face at the idea, "That's such a smart idea."

Oh but wasn't she being rude, "My name is Spick n Span but my siblings call me Tidy." She gave a playful bow, "What's your name?"

"Tidy's a lovely name. I take it you like cleaning?" Lance asked, laughing about the formal bow. To be so well-met was a lovely change of pace from some of his schoolmates! He returned it graciously, and flipped his hair when he stood back up.

"I'm Just Lance, but Lance works well enough!" He replied, taking up the wagon's handle with his magic. It was only polite to take the first leg of cart-toting for the lady!

"I'll carry it for as long as I can," Lance told her, pulling it forward. "You may know the ponies around the park a fair deal better than myself!"

Tidy nodded, "I love cleaning. It's very rewarding." She paused, taking in his name. "Lance," she tested out. It somehow suited him. "I like it."

She opened her mouth to protest, it was after all, at least temporarily, her cart but it would be easier to lead without worrying about keeping her attention on the destination, the cart, and the colt.

"All right, but just until we get to the park. And then we can switch, after we decide where to start."

"Funny how our names usually suit us," Lance mused aloud, cocking his head a bit. Would he be a different pony were he not Just Lance? Would he still be destined for knighthood, or would he have a different calling? What if he were a cleaner, as Tidy seemed to be?

"Sounds fair to me," he agreed, perking up. And with that, they were off, Lance trailing after the filly as they headed for the park. When they were there, he turned back to Tidy.

"Do you know anyone living nearby? We might start there,"

Intriguing was the word she could have used but it was, in a sense, funny. She couldn't imagine herself with any other name. No other would have suited her; in fact, it may have set her up for a different life entirely. And she didn't like that thought at all.

It didn't take long to reach the park; it looked smaller without a landscape of white drenching it. But the park wasn't what they had to search. It was the homes nearby for a phony who recognized the wagon.

"Not by name," she started but began to point to the three homes she knew had phonies who visited the park. "There's phonies in those homes that come here frequently. Perhaps we should start there?"

"A grand idea if ever there was one! You're very clever, I hope you know that," Lance beamed, hoping to cheer his new friend's spirits. It was never good, being down on yourself- his own bout with the lake had taught him that much. And more than that, she was doing her best to do the right thing! That was always something to be admired.

Following the line of her point, Lance nodded cheerily, and headed off towards one of the aforementioned houses. When they arrived, he lifted a hoof and rapped gently upon the wooden door.

Perhaps their first attempt would prove successful!

The first attempt did not prove successful. Nor the second. Even the third was a complete bust. From there, it only got worse.

The eighth -- had it been more or less, oh who cared -- door slammed in the young phonies' faces as a voice inside the house shrilled, "Can you believe the audacity of the young to try shilling trash?"

Tidy's mouth dropped open. Trash? Oh that did it. Forget the whole finding the cart's owner idea. Clearly no one appreciated it as she did. She'd just keep it! With a huff, she turned and tried not to glower at Lance. It wasn't his fault after all.

"This isn't working. I think its best I just take it home with me and clean it up for good use!" Okay, that came out a bit more forceful and angry than she attended. She sighed.

"I'm sorry. It was really nice of you to help. I just... I think I need a nap..." she admitted, taking hold of the cart and dragging it off. And if her hooves stomped a little, well. The pavement wasn't complaining.

It was hard to keep faith as the first, second, and third house did not own the cart they were dragging along. Worse still were the rejections afterwards, and Tidy's mood falling with each no. He tried to stay upbeat, but to see a filly so determined be turned down again and again was... dejecting. By the time they reached the spiteful home-owners calling them peddlers, Lance found himself scowling in disdain, with half a mind to give them what was coming. The audacity! Being so rude when the young lady was simply trying to do her part!

He whirled around as Tidy stormed off, clearly upset by the forceful tone. But this was no time to get on her case, no! The best course of action would be to be a friendly ear and a shoulder to lean on. He hurried off after her, catching up with her quick pace.

"No need for apologies! That was abominable behavior- adults shouldn't conduct themselves in such a way," he huffed, throwing another dirty look behind them. When she made the suggestion of taking it home, Lance nodded.

"You've done all anyone can expect of you, really. I can't find any fault in that idea."

She noticed, too late, that she hadn't even given him a chance to respond and she slowed when she heard him rushing to catch her. Relief flooded her when he didn't seem upset with her, even seeming to agree that she at least had some reason to be frustrated, if not angry. Which made her feel a bit better anyway, a small smile brushing against her mouth.

"I know it isn't the prettiest thing right now but to call it trash? That was just mean." She breathed, glad that he saw no reason to continue this unsuccessful parade. "Thank you, for the help, again, Lance."

Once more, she began to lead the cart away. She had her head down, bangs falling in front of her eyes, and she didn't notice the phony nearby staring hard at the cart.
