Vesuvius had only met one cat person and that was a long time ago. Since then he had not run into the purely Mauvian race and, for his sanity, that was ok with him. Having to talk to one catgirl had been enough for him to doubt this gift he'd been given. A gift, he was somewhat ashamed to say, that he didn't always take seriously.

Though, as he'd grown since then, he figured he had to be doing something right.

It had been a quiet night. He hadn't run into anyone of interest and there certainly hadn't been any fights. His patrol was over for now and though he was easily noticeable he stopped at a little hole in the wall taco shop. He ordered too many tacos but that was ok. He sat down at a table with a soda and a few little paper baskets that smelled of carne asada and salsa verde.

Hadaya was, by large parts, just a kitty. He had the usual trappings of a cat, including a keen taste for the luxurious and strange foods that humans served each other. They were not often interested in sharing with him, and certainly got mad when he tried to get it himself, but he had learned a few tricks to secure at least little tastes of all the food the city had to offer.

He was cute. He was fluffy. And he had a damn convincing 'pretty please' face that few could deny. Not that he would ever realized that was what he was doing: he was a sweet cat by nature, and liked to think people shared with him because they were, mostly, very nice.

Who wouldn't want to feed a starving kitty?

Okay, so he was not starving. In fact, looking at him, one might say he was a bit on the round side. Not to his face, he hoped, but yes. He was a tubby tabby, and lived a very nice, happy life with a giving and wonderful family. Far removed from the actual homeless cats that wandered around the city.

Plus he could talk.

Smelling food and sensing a white moon aura, Hadaya padded toward the scent and spotted the knight with a bright look on his face. He had met a few knights before, and of course he lived with a couple as well. They were great! And usually, very giving. He moved toward Vesuvius, rubbing his round side against the knight's leg.

Vesuvius hadn't expected one of the felines to show up but he recognized the telltale star when he saw it. He also saw that the cat wasn't lacking for food as his look might have suggested. The plump belly brushed against his leg and he chuckled, reaching down to stroke Hadaya's back.

It was a good thing he was a soft-hearted pirate.

He picked up the cat and set him on the table next to him. Management probably should have said something, but they didn't. He pushed a basket toward the tabby.

"It's spicy."

He wanted to give fair warning, he likes spicy things. The tomatillo salsa he got had plenty of kick to it, with a sour note he liked. Tomatoes were all well and good but this was what he preferred. He considered Haddy for a long moment before he leaned back, taking a swig of his root beer. Somehow, he knew the cat would understand him.

"Where did you come from, little one?"

Spicy?

Hadaya was sure he could handle it. His Mauvian taste buds were different to a human's, after all, so things that were spicy to them were more on the tame side to him. At least, that's what he assumed. He had never tasted things the way a human did, after all, so he was just going on what they said about it.

The moment the food was pushed in his direction, Hadaya's face was in it. He got it all over his fur, of course, but he was a greedy little guy that was rather hungry at the moment. He sniffed a little, getting some in his nose and making it burn, but that did nothing to slow his chomping, getting a big mouthful before he sat back and looked up at the pirate with wide eyes.

It was spicy, after all.

"Fromph the liblarly," he said, between gasps to counter the hot food and big chewing motions of his jaws. It was not exactly the most polite way to eat or talk, as the two were not supposed to happen at the same time. But wouldn't it be ruder not to answer?

"The library? Then you must know Father Time."

He meant Camelot, having met the man once when he was just starting out. He'd seen him a few times briefly since then and liked to joke about his age or the fact that he seemed fastidiously devoted to his wife, a rarity in these mad, modern times. Anyone around the library knew about Camelot. They had to have. It was his territory, or so he'd come to understand.

"What brings you here, begging for food?"

He thought that most of these things could be human looking if they wanted to. It begged the question of why he was left talking to a a tubby cat that was stuffing his face with carne asada. It had to make him look crazy, if no one heard the cat responding. It was just another entry in the "why this job makes me look like a crazy person" journal.

"I'm Vesuvius, by the way. Squire of Pluto."

"Father time? No, I don't think I know anyone like that... he sounds a little scary though... is he... is he there a lot or...?" Hadaya was not the brightest crayon in the tool box, and sometimes he did not realize when people were using a bit of double talk in their language.

Hadaya didn't think Camelot had ever mentioned someone named Father Time, though, and neither had Merlinite... they were the two that were there the most, so if it was a bad thing, they would have warned him already right?

Right.

No need to worry.

Hadaya spent some time licking his paws and cleaning his face as best he could, though he had short little arms so it took a lot of angling to get things done. He liked to sit back on his legs, upright, to get a better vantage point. It made him look like a dumpy meerkat.

"Oh, I'm Hadaya! I'm a guardian cat! I guess you knew that. I was just patrolling and got hungry when I smelled your food! And I... wanted to say hi.

"I meant Camelot. Though I doubt he'd like the nickname if he heard it."

Pappy had been sensitive about his age, to a point. He had no reason to believe that Camelot wasn't. He knew Camelot was not his grandfather's age but it didn't make much of a difference to him. He was older, much older, and that's what mattered. He let Haddy clean himself up, finishing his own food and drink before leaning back.

He was sure the cat meant to put the meeting him part first.

"I've only met one guardian cat before but she was more...human looking.

Aside from the tail and ears of course.

"Who are you protecting these days?

Did they guard a single subject or multiples? Vesuvius was still unsure of how that worked. Like he said he'd only met one and their conversation hadn't been...well, very business like. How he managed to flirt with almost everyone was anyone's guess.

"Oh, Camelot! I live with him! And with Shalott and Chaonis and Navi! Navi is my senshi, though I think she protects me more than I protect her." He tried, of course, as he was a Guardian Cat, and that was what he was supposed to do.

He at least helped her when she was sad, or cold, or any other reason why she would need cuddles.

Cuddles were his expertise.

He smiled, though he had not yet come to realize he had his own human form, and did not know how to access it. The idea of a human looking guardian cat was new to him, and it baffled him so much that he needed to just sort of... skip over that information until he needed to process it later. He smiled and purred contentedly.

"But knights don't have guardian cats, I know that. That's sad."

"You live with him, do you? Small world."

Vesuvius met Camelot a few times and heard about his wife but had not met Navi. Apparently power just ran in their family...or maybe he just tended to have it gravitate toward him, being so strong. Vesuvius really didn't know how it worked. He just met who he met and kept in touch with a few.

It was nice to have a Royal Knight to call on, just in case.

"No. We don't readily get magic or you cats to guide us. If you ask me, it kind of stinks."

They got magic at their earliest point and someone to awaken and guide them on their paths. He'd always been a bit at odds with that, thinking senshi the favored children of the White Moon. There was no such welcoming set up for knights.

"That Navi is lucky to have...someone."

Even if that someone was a tubby cat.

Hadaya smiled brightly, nodding his fluffy little head along with what Vesuvius was saying, though he was sad that the knights didn't get the same kind of help and perks that the senshi did. That was not fair for members of the white moon faction that were just as important!

Of course, Hadaya was bias toward his lovely senshi, but he still felt that knights were important.

"I'm lucky to have Navi! But I'm sure you have friends, right? People you can trust and work with? That's kind of the same thing! I think, if you have someone like that, you are just as well off as any senshi! So you should get one, if you don't have one. Oh, and cats don't have to not be friends with Knights just because we can't do much to help you! So! I mean, we can be friends, if you want!"

Hadaya was not exactly a philosopher, but he felt like what he was saying was important, and made a great deal more sense in his head than what the actual words were doing.
