The Iron Brotherhood exists within this thread, and any of their events take place here.

The Iron Brotherhood has beckoned you. Upon activation of the crystal, you are brought into a small chamber, lit by torches secured to the walls. A forge and a small pile of ore rest a short distance away, and a small, wiry man with a crop of red hair stands before you.

"Welcome. Rumors are that you have some talent working metal. We at the Iron Brotherhood have devoted ourselves to the pursuit of mineral perfection. If the stories are true, then you might meaningfully contribute to our quest. You have enough ore there to create three ingots of iron, and enough coal for five attempts. When you are happy with your examples, bring them to me for inspection. If you impress me, then we can speak further."

Metalwork Arte: Peerless Iron Ingot
1 unit iron ore and 1 unit charcoal produce 1 iron ingot, with +35 to the quality roll of each ingot

3/3 Ore
5/5 Coal
0/3 Ingots

Rota started his challenge by observing the tools he had to work with. They were all the same tools as in the smithy, albeit higher quality. He looked over the man and removed the Tinkerer's ring from his pocket and the Tinkerer's hammer as well and put them both on a workbench. "The quality you know me for was without the aid of those new additions to my craft. As such, whatever is made here will reflect that standard that you know me for." he removed his vest and began his work.

Rota grabbed a piece of ore and placed it in a smelting cup whilst putting a coal in the low embers of the hearth to burn as fuel. He grabbed the bellows nearby and fostered the flames to burn hot. He, more than he ever thought, needed these preceding ores to be good. He was confident that he would not get any sub average quality ores rearing their ugly head, but that meant that the lowest he could be was average. In someways that was worse in his mind. At the very least in either pole there was some quantifiable thing to be said about the quality of the ingot. if something is average, it is just...there. He could not accept that as a possibility. He WOULD not accept that. He continued pumping the bellows, keeping the heat even as possible so that all the impurities evenly cooked out. His hand was more steady than it had ever been before as he kept the fire roaring. After a time had passed of upkeep, he took the provided tongs and a casting mold and poured the liquid mineral into the mold. This fledgling ingot was the start of this challenge. There was no backing out now.

Metalwork Arte: Peerless Iron Ingot
1 unit iron ore and 1 unit charcoal produce 1 iron ingot, with +35 to the quality roll of each ingot

2/3 Ore
4/5 Coal
1/3 Ingots

Rota waited for the ingot to cool. In the past, he had started other ores smelting during this time, but this was different now. Then, he had not needed the exact quality that was going to be expected of him here. When the ingot had set enough to retain its shape for the most part, he grabbed the seal from his jacket and pressed it onto the still malleable metal. The claw clutching fire was pressed upon the ingot, marking it as his handiwork. He proceeded to quench the ingot in a barrel of water, and place it on a nearby workbench to dry. The first ingot was done, so now it was time to move on to the second. Examination of the ingots could wait until they were all made.

He once again placed an ore chunk into the smelting cup, and a piece of coal into the fire. His tenderness towards the bellows was unheard of as he fostered the flames as if they were a part of his being. Rota thought of himself as an Artisan, and he wanted that to reflect in his work. Doubters of his ability could call Abyssian II and Gloomshard flukes...which made him agitated just by the mere thought, but he pushed that feeling back. Whatever the case, he was here to prove that his abilities were not mere happenstance, rather natural ability and earned talent. The flames roared with the energy and intensity of his soul as he continued to banish the impurities from the soon to be liquid ore. When it was ready he pulled it from the forge and poured it into the mold like the first. The future was uncertain for this ingot, but he was confident that it would be as good or better than its predecessor.

Rota once more waited for the next ingot to be set enough for his seal. He wondered how scrutinous the gaze of his onlooker was. He had no idea the criterion they judged each ingot on. There was no telling at this point until the judgment was ultimately passed. like before, he imprinted his seal on the ingot and quenched it to cool it. He placed it with its sibling, and moved on to the next ingot to be made. There was no room to wait around or for breaks.

Rota placed the last ore and the coal in their respective positions, and began stoking the flames with the bellows. He had to make this ore count. he had two opportunities to amend mistakes, but the less he had to do that the better. That said, he had no idea of what he was looking at for now, so he could only focus on the task ahead of him. He was going to impress the guild or die trying, and he honestly didn't know how apt that description was. He had no clue who these people even WERE but evidently they had heard of him somehow.Regardless, he was playing by their rules now, so he might as well make the best of it. When it was time he pulled the ingot from the hearth and poured the contents into the cast one more(and hopefully the last) time.

Rota waited for the ingot to cool for just long enough for him to place his seal on it. With that out of the way, he quenched the ingot and placed it among its kin. He inspected each one, and it seemed like the latest one was the best(and of quality that he had never even made before) while ingots 1 and 2 seemed to be of roughly similar quality. Here's where the problem came in. He knew he COULD make better than this, but he ran the risk of making a subpar product in the process. While he wanted to impress, he also did not want to make a fool of himself in the process by getting greedy. He walked over to the man, Ingots in hand. "I believe this is the standard I have set. I hope it is what you are looking for."

The man sets the ingots on a table and bends close, examining them through a special monocle-type lens. He is quiet for some time, as he scrutinizes each example with a critical eye. He is muttering to himself, making notes of various qualities in each ingot. At last, he stands back up and returns the lens to a pouch on his belt. "This is not what we were expecting. Two of these are fitting of a smith with some natural talent, but this last one... This last one is a masterpiece. This work is beyond any prediction we at the Brotherhood had made for someone that we had not heard of before. You have clearly practiced your art extensively, and the attention and craftsmanship that you place into your work is evident in the product. I do not know how it is that you have such skill and that we are only now hearing your name, but I can tell you that I will advise the Brotherhood on your talents. You are free to take these with you: my word as Curator is all that the Brotherhood will need. As a token of our appreciation for your time, I'd like to give you this."

The man produces a casting mold that has two ingots in relief. The seal of the Iron Brotherhood is stamped into the mold, but not the ingots. "You should be able to make use of this, I think. We will be in touch once the Brotherhood has heard my report and made any further decisions."

You are transported back from whence you came, and the three ingots that you crafted, along with the new casting mold, are in your inventory.
