Hatil was certainly the strongest bird ever; she'd show that big sis of hers! What did she mean that there was no way she could catch anything like a fox or a rabbit on her own? Psh! As if she needed the big ol' blue turpy's help for something like that. All she had to do was prove her wrong, which was why she was out on her own some measurable distance away from their little hut.
It had never occurred to the little chick that it might have all been a cleverly-crafted ploy to get her to get lost or, even better, killed.
Saira wasn't so keen on sharing a mama with anypae else, after all. Especially not another like her.
Which resulted in the brightly-colored Hatil wandering through the woods, alone, and closely approaching the edge where the trees gave way to open fields. She'd never traveled this direction before, but she'd heard about it. Saira had even told her that rabbits and foxes loved it over here, and that only scaredy-birds were afraid of being seen by someone.
Hatil was no scaredy-bird!
