Hatil was certainly the strongest bird ever; she'd show that big sis of hers! What did she mean that there was no way she could catch anything like a fox or a rabbit on her own? Psh! As if she needed the big ol' blue turpy's help for something like that. All she had to do was prove her wrong, which was why she was out on her own some measurable distance away from their little hut.

It had never occurred to the little chick that it might have all been a cleverly-crafted ploy to get her to get lost or, even better, killed.

Saira wasn't so keen on sharing a mama with anypae else, after all. Especially not another like her.

Which resulted in the brightly-colored Hatil wandering through the woods, alone, and closely approaching the edge where the trees gave way to open fields. She'd never traveled this direction before, but she'd heard about it. Saira had even told her that rabbits and foxes loved it over here, and that only scaredy-birds were afraid of being seen by someone.

Hatil was no scaredy-bird!

Navidad was walking through the forest, a woven basket dangling from the curve of her staff as she collected various foliage. Her basket, while carrying a wrapped loaf of bread and dried leaves, was also slowly filling with aloe leaves, berries and fruits, flowers, and pine branches. She was running low on some of her favorite scents for her soaps, and was hoping to use this errand to stock up on plenty of the extracts that she used so liberally.

Crunching and rustling in the underbrush caught the Fae's attention, and she straightened from the current bush that she was picking from. It didn't sound like a woodland critter scurrying for cover, but rather like deliberate steps. And, sure enough, a little harpy, bright in colors, stomped through ahead of her.

"Good afternoon." She called out with a smile, expecting a full grown Pae to appear with the chick.

Hatil had stepped forward, full-force (as if that would help her catch a rabbit) into the little clearing in the forest. Not quite to the outside, but more sparsely dominated by trees than the area she'd come from. She stopped, looking to one side, hands on her hips. Nope, nothing.

Then the other.

Her eyes stopped to stare at the large creature thing in front of her, locking on it intently as she froze. What was tha-... When it spoke, the chick visibly jumped, her little wings fluttering behind her, before she scurried to the cover of the bush. Once there, she chirped back at the big creature.

Loudly.

Navi watched the small harpy jump, clearly startled, and then run for cover. Once out of site, she heard the very loud chirp coming from under a bush. Deciding the little one was scared enough, she sat herself down on a fallen log and set down her staff.

"It's ok, little one, I mean no harm. Can you speak, or do you only chirp?"
She kept herself relaxed, making sure she looked as harmless as possible.

"Mom says I'm nat s'possed ta talk ta st'angers." She called back loudly from the safety of the bush. Just what was that thing?! It had these funny little things on her back that looked like they would break at any touch; what use would that be in hunting? Her mom was graceful and powerful and the ultimate bestest demon ever!

And Hatil was going to get into so much trouble if she ever found out about her being seen by another.

Stupid Saira must have know this would happen! Stupid, stupid, stupid Saira that's just stupid. She always does this! Just a few days ago, the chick had almost gotten bitten by a venomous snake because of her stupid sister saying it was dead.

Stupid Saira.

Hopefully the big talking... thing... in front of her would leave and she could go home.
