Fiona Watson had arrived at the Shufflepuck Cafe at approximately 4:47 because she'd been paranoid that if she wasn't at least ten minutes early that she'd be late entirely. It was a bit of an irrational thought, if she was honest, but it'd been some time since she'd decided that knowing someone in both lives was worth it and she didn't want to ******** it up.
When she arrived, bundled in a forest green peacoat and pale blue tights climbing up her legs, she found an empty table to set her stuff down. She tugged her gloves off slowly, wiggling her fingers to regain function after her small trek across town in the bitter cold.
She waited another five minutes, dutifully watching the minutes tick away on her phone's clock, before getting up and ordering a drink. She still went with the name Dragonfly, even though there was a dragonfly stitched along the back of her peacoat-- it'd been a gift from her brother, Peter, when she'd gotten into her grad program.
She sat back down and waited, mismatched eyes searching the patrons for ravens.

Cordelia Carden had swept her hair up into a ponytail that way specifically so that she could wear a pair of black, feathered earrings without worrying that they would get caught in her hair. They complimented the off the shoulder sweater she was wearing; white with a black, stylized raven printed onto the front. She looked considerably more relaxed than she did when powered up; a little less of the world's weight lingering on her shoulders. She paused to tap a bit of snow off of her boots before heading inside, glancing around briefly before approaching the counter to order something for herself. When the barista called out an order for 'Dragonfly' she smiled, paying for her order before watching to see who came to claim their order. Nuxaz Sorry for the delay, Nux! Holiday retail tried to eat me alive, but I managed to survive!

Fiona was pretty sure that she'd spotted her companion, it was hard to miss the raven earrings and the sweater falling off the woman's shoulder. Relief flooded through her, she'd had difficulties shaking off the paranoia that Corvus wouldn't show, when they called her name and she slid out of her seat and hopped over to the bar to collect her latte.
She returned to her table, settling back in her seat waiting for the other woman to finish ordering and slide her way, assuming that she'd heard the codename she'd given and probably hadn't missed the dragonfly adorn on her back.

When her own order was up she collected her chai along with a gingerbread biscotti. She tipped the barista before following the path the dragonfly had taken across the room, pausing by the young woman's table with a smile. "Is this seat taken? That really is a beautiful jacket, by the way. I love the dragonfly on the back." Nuxaz I thought I broke Gaia for a second by trying to tag something twice in one day. I hit the 'Submit' button and there were errors everywhere. XD

Fiona had been taking a sip of her coffee when Cordelia slid over to her table. Setting the paper cup down she smiled pleasantly at her companion and gestured for her to sit. "It is now," she chirped, eyes sweeping over the other woman's shirt.
"I really like that sweater," she complimented with a slight raise of her eyebrows. "The raven suits you, as does the off the shoulder look." That look was Fiona's favorite and she commended the woman's willingness to rock it in the cold weather. "Thanks, it was a gift from my brother. He claims I talk faster than a dragonfly's wings beat."
Peter's claim was far from the truth, even if Fiona did tend to talk too quickly when she was excited.
"I'm Fiona, it's nice to meet you."Skye Starrfyre Gaia was being such a d**k.

"Cordelia, and it's nice to meet you too." Her smile was genuine and she definitely enjoyed taking a moment to talk about clothes after the introductions. "Thank you. I actually just picked this one up on a recent shopping trip with a friend. She insisted I treat myself or she was going to buy it for me." She shook her head slowly, taking a small sip of her tea. She'd left her scarf and a vest that she'd worn to cover her shoulders hanging up by the door; she wasn't nearly as brave as Fiona was giving her credit for when it came to the weather. "I used to be more of a chatterbox when I was still at Crystal, but a lot has changed since then. It's almost been five years for me." Nuxaz It had to relive some of its younger years by acting up.

"Well, both of you obviously have good tastes."
There was a part of the ginger who felt a bit envious that Cordelia had a girl friend who she could go shopping with. She hadn't had that since Elegancia had contacted her less and less over the last few years. And it wasn't that she was upset-- life got busy and they both had different things to deal with --but sometimes she missed 'girl's nights'.
"Wait, you went to Crystal? When did you graduate?"

"I did." Cordelia nodded, "I graduated in 2012, but most of my 'friends' were a year or two ahead. They weren't exactly a nice group... And I was too busy trying to fit in to be anything but a mean girl along with them." She snorted softly, shaking her head slowly. "It's crazy how much your perspective changes when you get mugged in an alley and you're rescued by a cat..."

"I understand," Fiona laughed, "Crystal is full of sharks." She hadn't been one of the mean girls, but she'd run with a pack of them when she had attended. "I graduated a few years before you, but sometimes I remember it like it was yesterday."
She had it all figured out in high school and her early years at shlip and now, she was scrambling to get a hold of something tangible again.
"Is it bad that I don't remember much of that? The whole cat thing, it happened so fast and everything was such a blur." She shook her head. She remembered a lot of vivid details about her power-boost assist from a cat and all the things that had followed her awakening but the initial event. Hardly anything stuck.
"It's crazy how concentrated it is to DC too, I was in Paris earlier this year and...there's nothing."

"Sharks, vipers, wild dogs... There's a lot of names for the sort of girls that go to our Alma Mater." She managed a soft smirk as she took a small sip from her cup, leaning back in her seat afterwards. Cordelia nodded her agreement of Fiona's last statement. "I know that they have to be everywhere, it can't just be here... But this is where it's making headlines. I thought about staying away, but I couldn't. I couldn't not come back. This crazy place... It's home, and that seems such a silly thing to be stuck on when it comes to matters of life or death, doesn't it?" Her voice had dropped low as she shook her head, glancing down at her cup.

"You never realize how bad it is until you're out and away from it for a while." A statement that could be applied to both their high school experiences and their senshi ones.
"If they're there, then they're doing a great job of hiding." Fiona shuddered at the thought that the Negaverse might control everything but Destiny City. "It was strangely relaxing, but terrifying, to be away from everything and get to pretend like it wasn't a very real thing." Her last trip overseas is what convinced her that it was time to go back, be involved again.
"Things like this, places like DC have a way of drawing us back in and never letting go."

"And that's why things can't stay the way they are. It's our home. We grew up here. We went to school here. We have stories here." Her fingers curled around her cup, knuckles white before she realized her grip and relaxed. This was definitely something that she could get passionate about easily, but it would be for the best not to draw too much attention to their table. "I almost didn't come back, like Lucien... And another friend of ours. I've wondered if it will be easier, knowing that they're somewhere else and safe while I'm doing what I'm doing here. I hope so. I also hope it doesn't make me more reckless. I think," she paused for a moment, lips pursed together as she gathered her thoughts, "I think that's why we're supposed to work together. So we have others to think about; so we aren't reckless."

"I don't fault anyone for deciding it's not worth fighting anymore, I mean," she sighed, "it's been years and I don't feel closer to a victory on either side." It was times like these that had Fiona wondering if she would feel the same hopelessness if she were an actual soldier. At least she'd know what type of attacks and ruthlessness to expect from the other side.
As it was, with all the magic and various, unpredictable, weapons she never knew if she was going to make it out alive.
"Well, if you get too reckless I'll be here. I can keep you in check if you'll do the same." Fiona was often too busy worrying about everyone else, she needed someone to remind her that taking the risk wasn't always worth it. Maybe Cordelia could be that person.

"I'd like that. Honestly," Cordelia nodded, taking another small sip of her drink. "I can't promise that I won't do anything foolish. I believe I'm a good bit less foolish than I used to be, but..." It was hard not to take risks when her sphere required having actions taken against her in order to activate. "On one condition, though. We do things like this sometimes. It's not just nightly routine. We make time to be ourselves. Lunch dates, shopping trips. We don't give ourselves a chance to forget what we're fighting for this time. We can take a break from it all, every now and then, to just be." Maybe that would help with the risk taking, in the long run. Maybe it would be enough to help her be a nicer version of who she once was again.

Fiona laughed, as lightheartedly as she could manage because it was just nice to exist in the space across from Coredlia without having to wonder what was around the corner or who might be tracking them.
"That would-- cosmos that would be perfect," she breathed, excitement bubbling within her. "I haven't had that in a long time. I could definitely use the destresser," she admitted taking a sip of her coffee before continuing, "we'll take time to ourselves to be the people we're supposed to be or should be if everything wasn't..you know."
