With little to no light it had been hard to find rocks that suited her needs. Ariya had had to go by touch mostly to see if the stones she collected had a smooth surface or not. Because of this she only had a small handful. Well, because of that and the fact that she didn't want to go too far from her hut just in case by some weird turn of events Niesh woke up and noticed she was gone. Her mother had a way of panicking over the small things. Still, she seemed pleased at least that she was able to find as many as she had.

Now she sat back at her small table with the many stones set before her. Ariya decided that since she kept messing things up she would start with the smaller of the lot and work her way up from there. After all, what would the smaller one be used for otherwise? Once again she drew a symbol from memory, this one different from the last, and studied it for any imperfections. From what she could tell it looked pristine. It clearly matched what she saw in her mind's eye.

Now satisfied that it wasn't her drawing skills that were the problem the young Alkidike collected her etching tool and tried to be as delicate as possible during the carving process. There was a tremble in her hands as she concentrated on being still of hand. Tiredness and failure making her feel as though she needed to be above and beyond what she was clearly capable of. Yet, once more, the surface of the rock chipped making it un-useable. With a huff Ari flung her tool to the table and shoved the rock away before planting her elbows firmly on the surface. With her hands free she rubbed at her eyes in agitation. Why couldn't she get it right!? Resigned to give up for the day she snuffed out her lantern and made for bed. Perhaps she could try again on the morrow.
