Having failed at keeping her mind set on making a piece of jewelry for her mother earlier, Ariya sat down to try and see if she could tinker around with something else. In her hand she held a etching tool and a smooth surfaced beach rock. The sun had bleached the color from most of it and it now held mottled flecks all over. That alone had been enough to entice her to pick it up. Concentrating on a pretty design that she'd seen somewhere before the young Alkidike sets the tool to stone and begins to draw. First she did so lightly, not wanting to make any unnecessary marks on the rock. It wouldn't do to have it look as though it had been beaten up.

When she thought she had the pattern all sketched out perfectly from memory she set the rock down to study the mark. Ariya was sure it was the symbol she'd seen somewhere before, not that she knew what it meant. Satisfied that it at least looked pretty she leaned over the table and set to work on actually gouging into the stone. The grating sound soon became all she was aware of so when her mother came home she was none the wiser. Half way through making the runic letter become a deep part of the rock her mother came up behind her and tapped her on the shoulder. This startled Ariya and she moved her hand too rigidly, ruining the symbol. She'd scored the stone's surface with a jagged line and now sat staring at it. With a groan she pushed the stone and the etching tool with it away then let her forehead drop to the table top with a solid thud. Apparently she truly was not meant to make anything today.
