Sunlight began to fade inwards, as the light slowly enveloped the world. Windows reflecting the light glistened in the mid day, as cars and houses seemed frozen in time. Footsteps could be heard from the nearby woods. A figure kept low to the ground before taking aim with his rifle. Aww s**t. the figure whispered as they holstered their weapon and began to retreat from the woods. Using a mirror, he reflected the sun unto a window, and watched it bounce off other mirrors until it hit a block of stone. C. 0. E. M. W. H. the male said focusing on the morse code. Code Zero, Enemy movement, Woods. Hostile. he translated as he hurried into a nearby subway tunnel. Staying close to the wall, he held his breathe. A group of Raiders passed by, not bothering to check the tunnel. The male stepped out and ran to a nearby building. Taking Aim he saw a few hostages. The radio systems has been down since the start of "End of Days" as everyone called it. Taking his phone out, the male scowled at the lack of a signal. Can't be helped. They went down five years ago. He muttered as he flipped to the Radio application. Putting in his headphones for a antenna, the male tuned into the Signal he knew by heart now. Zakhary flagged Hostile movement coming from the south woods. Due to the state we're in We can't act on this hostile engagement. Retreat into the tunnels and wait for them to- New reports have come in from Delta. They seem to be escorting prisoners to Zion. Red leader has given the All clear for enemy engagement. Take aim. Zakhary's in charge of the key Targets. Anyone in higher class armor is his Prey. Move out! Zakhary cursed under his breathe. The radios had been limited tot he city alone, with generators powering most of the appliances. Moving out of the building, he sprinted to the top of a hill and Knocked over a crate to use as his perch. Fixing his sights, the male saw five targets. Holding his breathe, He began to pray. To who ever is answering me, please... Don't let me miss. Guide my Hands. I am your weapon to destroy them.
Bang.
Zakhary pulled the lever back and loaded the next round. Firing, he shifted his aim to compensate for chaos. The recoil his him again in the shoulder, and he loaded the next cartridge. Holstering he began to move. The enemy was moving violently, and he could make out some red lines trying to find him. Climbing a tower, the male began to search for his prey until, he found a lone group of hostages being force into the tunnels. Pulling a flare gun out of his bag, the male fired it into the air before he followed the group. he lost time due to the climb but he knew the tunnels better than anyone. Grabbing a pistol and baton from a Cache, the male entered the tunnels.
Keep an eye out! Let no one touch the hostages. a raider barked as he aimed his flashlight into the darkness. Other raiders made a circle hoping to see anyone before they could see them. Sadly they failed. Zakhary cursed under his breathe as he disarmed tripwires and landmines. He couldn't risk harming the hostages. Seeing the path they would follow, Zakhary decided to make his move. Throwing a flashbang into the circle, the male covered his eyes as he ran forward. The explosion came as a surprise since none of them bothered to check behind them. Extending the baton, Zakhary slammed it into the back of a Raider's knee before he grabbed them by the through and used them as a shield. Bullets flew in his direction but the raider took the death meant for him. Throwing him forward, Zakhary refused to draw his pistol. Idiots! he yelled as a ricocheting bullet grazed his arm. Keeping low, the male heard the gunfire cease as they saw their fate. Two were shot by the ricochets, while Zakhary leaped over on of them and pulled his baton behind him, putting the raider in a choke hold. Pulling forward, a crack was heard as the raider went limp. Zakhary let go and turned around to see three woman and two men. As of this moment you are now free. Sadly I have to be the harbinger of hate and sorrow. Zakhary drew his pistol and aimed it at the youngest girl, a girl no more than ten. Follow my orders and we don't have to put her in a casket.
Zakhary was behind the survivors as he aimed the pistol at the girl's back. This was unknown to her due to the lack of perspective but they all knew. One wrong move and he could kill them in an instant. They all looked sleep deprived. That couldn't be helped. The end of Days only affected those who slept too long. Eden had forced everyone on a every other hour sleep schedule. Eight hours of sleep but an hour of work in between. The lack of a full REM cycle kept them alive, while the raiders relied on adderall or "Psycho" to keep them awake. Exiting the tunnels, Zakhary saw one female in the group turn her head back. He moved his pistol up to meet her face and motioned her forward. Two guards approached him. Ensign Phantom. Zakhary stated as he cocked the empty pistol, and showed everyone. Good Work Phantom. Rogue here will escort them to the infirmary. A guard said. Dis- Zakhary started before he collapsed on the floor. Rogue yelled for a medic while the other guard checked his vitals. He was bleeding from his leg. A stray bullet.
Zakhary felt pain as he drifted in his dreamscape. I have to wake up. I have to wake up! he screamed. The world was black and empty. His dreams didn't exist. His nightmares had long since abandoned him. Jolting awake the male screamed. Taking a few breathes, he calmed down. How long. He asked the medic. Calm down Phantom. You're in the infirmary. You bleed out from a wound to your leg. We've given you an infusion. You've been asleep for five hours. You've given some information to Cera. The sleep schedule's been modified. Three hours every other three hours. We thought we lost you.
Zakhary let himself be examined by the medic as he looked around the infirmary. The group had been given fatigues and a cot to sleep on. Two were missing. Ensign? Zakhary asked the medic.
Frisk. the medic replied.
Frisk what happened while I was out?
The raiding party deserted. Cera's ordered Rogue and Delta to perform patrols. Team Schrade is out tracking them. We lost Eyliant. She was shot point blank by a shotgun blast. She's been given her rites. You've been put on leave until the wound heals. The hostages have begun their transition. The child's with Chara looking at her health. The two elder hostages are talking with Cera. That girl's been staring here every since they left you in my care. Frisk explained.
Zakhary smirked as he sat up. So What happens now? Zakhary asked.
They'll be given their Ensigns if they agree to Combat. If not they go into the Civilian aspect of Eden. Farming, Sewing, Education. as for you Phantom, Cera left you in my care until further notice. You'll help me in the Ward until they put you back on active duty.
Zakhary nodded as he saw his rifle next to him. Asking for a crate, someone brought him a small one to use as a table. Zakhary deconstructed his rifle and began to clean it. Reassembling it, he cocked back his round and reloaded it. emptying the chamber, the male pocketed the round. leaning his rifle against the wall, the lights went out. Lights out. he explained as he stared into the darkness. Three hours. Better than nothing.
The hours passed and the lights came back. Zakhary tried to stand and cringed at the pain. Seeing two guards approach him he saluted. Ensign Phantom. Cera has asked that you show the new civilians Eden. Frisk has been called into the field. That is all.
Zakhary looked at the new group and saw only three people. The girl who he held a gun to her back, A kid who kept staring at his wound, and the girl who kept staring at him. Taking his rifle, the male motioned for the group to follow him. Before We start what's your names, and have any of you been given an Ensign?
