Grade Level: Middle, High, College
Subject: Although he's taught a number of lessons through his years of life, he seems relatively new to the scene of formally instructing others. However, in the past he's been known to have a hand in either teaching or aiding in the teaching of a number of classes including:
: biggrin on't Eat That!: Intro to Medicinal Herbs
: razz eace Ho!: Drama Through the Ages
::Bubble, Bubble: Potions without the Toil and Trouble
::Martial Arts & Meditation
::Hunting & Tracking
::Marksmanship
He also often acts as a guide for those new to hunts and often accompanies Leon during his sparring sessions.
Currently, he's the instructor for the potions class, Bubble, Bubble: Potions without the Toil and Trouble.
Abilities:
- Magical
: razz restidigitation: Very minor magic allowing him to conjure sounds, brief visual effects, small objects, and perform easy tasks.
:: Transposition: Very simply put, the ability to magically switch the position of objects, willing persons, or persons unable to resist while preserving momentum and orientation.
::Illusionist: Magic utilized to play with the senses of others. Though not as powerful as others, Marque can easily toy with the perception of those who underestimate his abilities. In this field of magic, he is especially good at disguising his own appearance and presence.
::Counter Magic: The one field of magic Marque truly excels at. He seems to do very well at dispelling, deflecting, and negating the magic used by others. Some say they've even witness him "stealing" spells and utilizing them against their original casters.
::Eyes of the Arcane: A power Marque was naturally born with, his eyes allow him to know whether or not a technique's origin is magic and, if so, how it is being evoked. Within his own realm, one where those able to utilize magic are revered, it is a feared ability that belonged only to spell thieves or antimages.
Natural
::Close Quarters Combat (CQC): Though his magical powers may be limited, Marque makes up for it by excelling at physical prowess, especially armed and unarmed combat in proximity to his opponent(s). While he has a basic knowledge of most weaponry, he seems to mostly favor knives and unarmed combat and does unusually well with improvised weapons.
::Marksmanship: While he excels at CQC, Marque also does quite well with ranged weaponry, namely the bow and arrow and crossbows. Unlike "professional" archery utilized in competitions wherein the marksman remains static, Marque prefers to continually be on the move while shooting.
::Supernatural Physical Abilities: While he is no longer an immortal within this realm, Marque is unquestionably much stronger and faster than the average mortal. While godhood itself has not directly affected his intelligence, millenniums of experience tends to make one more knowledgeable than most.
Personality: Quick-witted, gentle, yet direct, Marque is somewhat of an enigma among the staff and students alike. Although seemingly personable and open, when the time calls for it, he's very good at talking while saying very little. Even those closest to him find that they know very little about the man. Although adept at flattery, he is very quick to deflect compliments directed towards himself. Direct to a fault, he's often mistaken as flirtatious or insulting. Due to his willingness to listen to others and what seems to be an inability to sugar-coat things, he's deemed by most students as a trustworthy counselor sort of figure. Marque's speech is often laced with sarcasm, though he doesn't seem to ever truly have any ill-intent aside from those who draw his ire.
Often times, Marque will be studying something, whether it be music or a new language as a hobby. He seems to be especially interested in learning about medicines or combat techniques and tactics, however. The man tends to keep to himself, but seems to be quite courteous and patient with those who approach him. The way he acts also seems almost archaic at times, offering kisses to the back of the hands of women, giving greetings in conjunction with a bow. There is an air of elegance about Marque and he's also quite adept at flattery, skills reminiscent of his time spent masquerading as a Lord within his own realm.
History: Once a mere human millenniums ago in his own realm, Marque was trained as an assassin since time immemorial for him, working for the armies of humans in league with the demons warring against the gods of the realm. After a failed mission, he was backstabbed and left for dead, deemed superfluous as a failure. Days later, he awoke in the house of a goddess opposed to the selfish warring between demons and gods that has involved the peoples the gods had allegedly pledged to protect. For awhile, he lived with her, learning of compassion and empathy and he soon fell in love with her. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be as nearing the end of the war, the gods, in their arrogance, broke an ancient pact and actuated a forbidden power, sacrificing themselves to summon powerful reapers who brought the war to an end. Deemed as traitors, both Marque and the goddess, too, were meant to be eliminated. Marque only escaped death because the goddess sacrificed her life for him.
With the death of the last deity of his realm, Marque inherited the divinity of the goddess that gave her life to protect him. Though consumed with the rage of the races betrayed and his own, along with the inherited divinity, a new false deity was born within him. Caught between the paradox of existing as both a deity of vengeance and destruction and one which exists solely to protect those of his realm, he chose to seal his divinity. His inheritance as an artificial deity to protect the races of the realm in his place and the abominable creation was sealed within himself and along with them, the majority of his magical ability. From them, he only retained the attributes of immortality and being timeless. Being immune to the passing of time, Marque remained forever young.
With his proxy in place, Marque traveled his realm, living among the mortals and keeping balance where he saw it fit. Wars, disasters, and plagues passed by, but the balance never shifted too far one way or the other until an emperor rose unexpectedly, using the name of Marque's proxy to carry a crusade over the land, forcing Marque to personally intervene. Disaster was temporarily averted as the shift in balance began to let loose the dogs of war once more as otherworldly beings invaded the realm, threatening to destroy it. In desperation, Marque jumped planes to seek some means of saving his realm.
Years have passed since Marque has arrived in this realm, masquerading as a student and now an instructor at Ashhaven Academy; he continues to seek technological and magical developments, as well as possible comrades to champion his cause. Few have passed his close scrutiny, and fewer still allowed into his confidences. For all his searching, he has, however, found an ally in Vyuxiros, the dragon.
Unfortunately, being out of the realm of his authority, though Marque remains timeless, he seems to otherwise be as mortal as any other human. Though mortality infringes upon his comfort, millenniums of experience has preserved his life so far and he doesn't intend to die while his own realm remains in danger of complete destruction. And although he's not quite willing to experiment, should he ever be pushed to do so, perhaps the dark one sleeping inside of him may be willing to help preserve his life...
