What a strange, strange thing the world was.
The young, darling mare stood on a snowy hill overlooking a vast land of snow, trees and young Soquili leaping from snow mound to snow mound, unaware of the months and the years to come. Not that long ago she was here herself, as innocent and joyous as any foal would be, and now...oh how life had changed! Her parents, no longer together, rarely saw their children grow into responsible young adults. Her father, especially, who had another batch of kids with another strange mare, he rarely claimed any of them as his own. He wasn't cruel, as he had explained it to her once, he just had the kind of soul that needed to travel. He couldn't stay put - he needed to feel the world beneath his feet at all times.
At first, many months ago, she wouldn't have understood. She'd have told him he was crazy, that children were the world! But now, it was clear. Daisy Darling had lived her own life separate from her parents long enough to realize what the world really was, and her father was right - the world was meant to be explored. Family came second, or third, or even fourth, in the grand scheme of things - life! That was what mattered. Living the life you've been giving to it's absolute fullest.
And oh, did she enjoy it! Daisy made friends wherever she went, and those friends were great, until it was time for her to go - then she rarely saw them again. Then she made new friends in this new place, and the cycle continued on and on, and each time she'd leave her mark on that little space. If she ever wanted to return, the young mare was aware that she was welcome, but nothing ever called her home. Nothing had ever made her want to stay, and she liked it that way. She was, after all, her father's daughter to her very soul. Years ago she would have told herself that she wanted love, a family, a home...but....what was the purpose? No one really stayed, not truly. Everyone had a free-spirit deep down within their soul.
True love was rare, very, very rare, and she hadn't seen it in action in all of her journey. There were Soquili who claimed to be in love, but Daisy knew - Daisy knew that they were just kidding themselves. Give them an out - give them a reason to explore, and they'd go - every time. Or, at least, that's what she told herself. She told herself things like that so as to not feel guilty when she was younger, but now it was basically her mantra. She had seen too much - had too many experiences - to not believe it.
But she loved everyone - the way a decent creature would love any other. She cared deeply for the well-being of even a stranger. Yes, she had friends, she had a life worth being lived, and it was grand.
Daisy's thoughts were a million miles away as she continued to stare down at the young soquili playing in the snow. Oh, but if only they knew...
