A fated meeting on a festival night!
PostPosted: Tue Nov 24, 2015 2:28 pm

It all started with the stuffed snoutbeast. The night up to then had been a dizzying whirl of shining lanterns and tasty mooncakes, so much to see and do and all the fun to be had. Everyone seemed so happy with the moons looming up above them, and Lorata couldn't help but soak it all up with glee. And then, of course, she'd started seeing the trolls walking through the crowds, their arms full of stuffed animal and their festival clothes smudged with bits of mud. She wasn't entirely sure what to make of it at first, but she wanted one.

It hadn't been terribly hard to track them back to their source, of course, but then she'd found herself facing quite the obstacle. To get the stuffed animal, you had to wrestle with the real one. There was an older troll trying it even now, and she couldn't help but make a face at them rolling around in the pen. She'd had more than enough of mud for the sweep, as far as she was concerned, but that prize...Frowning, she moved in closer to the pen, stepping up onto the fence and leaning over a little for a closer view of the game in progress.

She couldn't see any way to do this without getting dirty at all. Humming, she turned her head to consider the farmer in charge instead. She'd just have to ask for one, then, and that would be that. No way he could tell her no. Before she could hop down off of the fence, though, a group passing by behind her cut by too closely. Suddenly she was off-balance, teetering dangerously over and then she crashed into the muddy pen with a loud yelp.

The troll that had been playing had already been on their way out, but the larger snoutbeast hadn't been put away yet. Expecting another challenger, it turned to face her and, when she didn't make a move toward it, cut across the pen towards her to start the game itself. Her eyes went wide. "W-wait!"

Normally, festivals wouldn't be Austri's first place of interest. With no one worth while to be with, it looked more appealing stay up on the mountain, where the wind was strong and her powers aplenty. Somewhere she felt good, safe. Confident. But tonight, she'd heard there'd be a festival on the lowest level of the mountain, something practically unheard of in Busthind mountain. Normally, festivals and such would happen in the big cities, such as New Hemisect or Civisect City... Even Chittentown had more events than their barren mountain. Chittentown! And that was a barren desert with lowbloods. Lowbloods! She had to check it out... Even if it was boring and had minor events that were only fun the first time you did them. Finding a needle in a haystack? How unrealistic was that, huh? And most of the mooncakes she ate were sub-par! How were they feeding this to her? Maybe it was a plot to take them down. Or more specifically, her. Her powers were pretty valuable, after all. They'd bring her to awesomeness in the future, and she'd conquer lands, places, helping, being valuable. She was definitely something someone out there wanted to sabotage.

Or maybe she was just over-thinking things.

Maybe~ Pulling herself out of her daze, Austri's eyes fell upon the beautiful night sky, simply marveling in its beauty before her eyes drifted away... Perhaps this night would be worthwhile, considering how nice it looked. As she strolled the streets of Busthind with a neutral expression, whenever she caught the eye of another troll of higher-blood, her shifty eyes disappeared behind the lid of her eyelids cheerfully and a peaceful smile spread across her face. She couldn't help it, advertising was her strongest trait after all. Stopping and adjusting her shoes, Austri carefully brushed off any dirt that may have fallen on them, taking care to keep them nice and polished-- Before the greenblood's sound-holes picked up a loud yelp. Her head snapped up, immediately zeroing in on the troll-- Wait, were those...

      ...Fins.

Austri instantaneously stood up straighter, trying to make herself look cooler-- She needed to impress this troll. The purpleblood was in trouble-- a rampaging snoutbeast was on its way to attack the poor seadweller. Austri was the only one who could save her. She could definitely do this! She quickly dashed, thrusting her hands diagonally downwards in order to push air down to rocket her into the air. Powers instantly at work, she landed while sliding into the muddy pen, seeming almost like a professional at wrangling snoutbeasts. "I'll save y-- Whoah~!" It was the stopping that she didn't know how to do. She ended up falling right on her tush, mud getting deeply rooted into her mint sweater and making her squeam. She was near the seadweller though, and flashed her a bright smile before the wretched smell hit her sharp nose like frying pan. "Ew..." She muttered under her breath, before her eyes widened. "I mean, not you~! The smell in here is simply terrible~!"

She then remembered there was a reason she'd jumped in, head flipping backwards to see the snoutbeast still running toward them, even if she'd just appeared out of nowhere. "Oohhhh~!" She exclaimed, throwing her hands up at the fearsome beast on instinct, a sudden burst of wind pushing it hard enough to fall on its side and daze it for a few moments. She breathed heavily, slightly frazzled-- Of course she did that on purpose, she was awesome. She just didn't know how. Oh well, she'd worry about it later. Glancing back toward the seadweller, she stood up while wiping her hand on her sweater, outstretching her cleanest hand toward the other with a bright smile. "Need help~?" She asked, other hand rested lightly on her hip.

She was half thankful she didn't follow her own thoughts. Had she done so, she'd have missed this perfectly amazing opportunity, even if she was dismissed completely. No troll in the area would forget her awesome entrance now!

Sprawled out in the mud and facing down a charging snoutbeast, Lorata knew this was it. MeduMa wouldn't clear the fence to get to her in time. She didn't even know if the farmer had noticed what had happened yet, preoccupied with the exiting player. Of all the ways for an all important seadweller to die, this had to be the stupidest, but here she was. And then, suddenly, there she was, a girl sliding into the pen as if she'd come down from above just to save her!

Lorata pushed herself up, staring up at the greenblood in awe. Could it be? Had a hero arrived to- The girl went down before Lorata could even finish the thought, landing with a squelch right beside her. She could only stare, even as Austri flashed her a quick smile that turned quickly into a complaint about the smell in the pen. Which, yes, that was awful, but the most pressing right now was definitely the snoutbeast that was now about to attack both of them!

She turned her head to watch its approach, braced herself for the worst, and then- And then gaped, mouth dropping open, as the greenblood shoved her hands out and sent the beast sprawling without ever even touching it. "H-how...?" It took her a minute to get her thoughts back in order, and by then her savior had already reached a hand down to help her up, that same bright and heroic smile spread across her face. She accepted the help, stood shakily, and likely would have returned to simply staring in wonder if she hadn't been about to burst with excitement.

"Oh my glub, that was amazing," She gasped, squeezing the girl's hand appreciatively before finally letting go. She turned slightly away to thrust her own hands out, mimicking what she'd seen the greenblood do, and then laughed delightedly. "How did you do that? That was like....like something from a story! You saved me!"

There was a startled sound from the side that announced the farmer had definitely finally noticed something had gone on in the pen while he wasn't looking. While he hurried over towards the snoutbeast, Lorata suddenly remembered again where they were. She quickly brushed off as much mud as she could, then reached out to grab hold of the greenblood's hands and tug her excitedly towards the exit. The stuffed animal prize that had been the cause of it all was completely forgotten.

"Let's go somewhere else! I'll buy you mooncakes and you can show me that thing again and tell me all about yourself and it'll be wonderful, okay?"

Austri was worried the tense situation had broken the seadweller for a moment before she felt her hand being squeezed and praise pouring out of her mouth. Every compliment made her smile grow wider, and a small around of pride blossomed in her chest. "...That was like....like something from a story! You saved me!" Austri's smile widened at being compared to a story, giggling from excitement at the words she said and positively glowing from all her words of approval. "Oh my glubness~ If you insist! Hehehe~" She dusted herself off from all the dirt on her person, but was still sopping from the mud that was splattered on her tush and all over her mint sweater. "I'm Austri~ Austri Coriol!" She said, following the purpleblood in excitement and voicing her emotions as well. "I want to know about you too! You're being so nice to me, and you're so... cool~" She smiled brightly before waving a hand dismissively-- "I only saved you! It wasn't such a big deal~" Well, it was, and she was mostly downplaying it so the other could up-play it. "You're much cooler~ What's your name?"

Lorata beamed right back as Austri took her turn giving out compliments, accepting each with a newly delighted giggle. "Austri Coriol," the seadweller repeated wonderingly, committing the name to memory. She shook her head immediately after though, in quick protest of how much the greenblood was downplaying what she'd done. "No no, it was definitely a big deal! It was really really amazing! Do you do things like that all the time?" But oh, in her excitement, she'd forgotten another important part!

"My name's Lorata Gorgos! It's really nice to meet you!" By now, with the speed they'd been rushing around, they'd reached the mooncake stand. There was a quick pause as Lorata made sure they bought the very best display cakes, because she'd seen the kinds of things festival-goers were making back there, then it was off again to find somewhere to settle and eat them! That was easy enough all its own, and once satisfied with the place, she turned back to to Austri.

"So, Austri! What do think about heroes?" Maybe, she thought as she waited, there was just something special about midbloods. She'd have to keep it in mind!

Their meeting was fated, Austri was sure of it.

She shyly fiddled with her hands, giggling slightly at the words she said excitedly and gazing to the side. "Well, I try to do it for those in need, y'know~" The ones who were worth it, at least. "Thank you so much~ But really! it's just something I'm used to doing~" Or not. That was actually her first time, rescuing another troll like that! But the seadweller didn't need to know that. She preformed pretty well, disregarding the unprecedented fall that occurred right before it happened. She smiled brightly, nodding and agreeing with what Lorata said happily. She followed behind her eagerly, watching her buy the mooncakes and sitting down next to her with a wide smile. Her conversation starter was something she knew by heart. "Oh, man, heroes...~" She sighed dreamily and looked to the shining diamonds in the sky, shoulders rising and falling with her motions as she closed her eyes. "I really, really want to be one! They're so amazing, practically legends~" She let out a soft aah~ before turning her attention toward Lorata, eyes pleasant and happy. "What about you? Don't you just love heroes? My dream is to be the very best~ Like no one ever was! Do you wanna be a hero too?" This was an honest question, actually. Lorata was a valuable friend, and she needed to know more information on her. Gain her trust. And hey, she actually seemed nice, on top of all that!

Austri already wanted to be a hero! There wouldn't be any need to convince her or anything, she already knew how great an idea it was! Really, Lorata couldn't have asked for more! Well, unless it was someone who already a hero hero, like the Captain? Maybe there always was a little more to ask for, she guessed, but this was still very very good! The seadweller shook her head, taking a bite of a mooncake, and then returned to beaming at her new friend.

"Heroes are my favorite thing in the world!" She announced, and her eyes drifted up to the stars as well, remembering all those constellations lighting up the night sky. "I've read so many of the stories and I have some statues of some of them and everything." Austri's last question, though, that was the important one. The seadweller shook her head again, tried to force her delighted grin into a very serious look, and continued on even after that failed.

"I don't want to be a hero. I want to make new ones!" She leaned towards the greenblood a little. "And you know, Austri, you're already doing such amazing things, but I could make you even better if you wanted!"

Austri reached for a mooncake, munching on it eagerly and nodding at Lorata's words. So she did love heroes!! "I've read so many stories too!! It's so cool, they're my inspiration. One day I'll make history!" She exclaimed, eyes glittering happily. "Statues...? That's so cool, oh my gosh~ I want to see them!! I mean, if that's okay with you...!~" She exclaimed, genuinely interested. Hero statues...! She could only imagine how cool it'd be, to see them!

Austri was obviously confused at her words, eyebrow rising in confusion at the struggling face of the purpleblood in front of her. Her face showed surprise at the discovery of Lorata's true goal, and instantly she felt a kinship to the finned female. "That's so interesting! Oh my gosh~" She held the rest of the mooncake in her hand, listening to her words and watching as she neared. Wait...

      Better?

      "I am?"
She asked, voice practically vibrating with excitement-- "You can?! How?"

KitsuneAura
heroing...!?!?!!?!???!?!
PostPosted: Fri Oct 07, 2016 9:03 pm

"Oh! Do you really?" Well, of course she did, who wouldn't want to see the statues of heroes Lorata had? Austri might have been the second lowblood who'd asked about visiting them, but the seadweller was still a little surprised that they'd be willing to brave the sea to do it. Such determination! What a great trait for a future hero! "Maybe you can one day then! There's ways for land dwellers to go underwater for a little while, right? I bet it wouldn't be hard at all and they're all around my hive, so!"

She clapped her hands decisively, mentally pinning in the plan as a definite future event without considering that maybe the greenblood hadn't known they were all underwater. That all worked out, she moved right back to the most important topic of them all: making Austri better so she could be the very best of heroes! Lorata finished her mooncake, brushed crumbs off of her hands, and then wriggled in closer to the greenblood, looping her arm through hers.

"It's going to be lots of work, but it'll be great, you'll see! I think I can already tell what kind of hero you'll be since you've already saved me, so we don't have to do as much there, but you're still going to need lots of training! Heroes have to be strong pretty much all the time, you know? And then we have to make sure people notice you, so-" There was a lot to be said and no reason not to take her time to say all of it right then and there, not on such a nice and peaceful night.

Earlier that night, she'd been looking up at that sky and thinking about a great hero, hadn't she? Maybe, she decided as they talked, it really wasn't a coincidence at all that they'd met under those stars.
