Ciel had decided to spend her Sunday working on her writing in the park, it was one of the few times she actually allowed herself leisure time. She threw on one of her nice white coats over her crystal uniform and put on her white boots and grabbed her laptop and headed out from the dorms.

After arriving in the park she found a fairly secluded tree to write under. Or at least she thought it was secluded, there was a girl around her age sitting there working on what looked like homework. Ciel thought she was rather pretty with her green hair and pale green eyes.

"Um excuse me, mademoiselle, may I sit here as well?" She politely asked the girl indicating to tree. She didn't want to bother the girl but it was a nice spot, with the air being crisp and the colorful leaves scattered around.

start, let me know if I need to change anything.

Poppy was there for exactly the reason one might think, sitting in the shade of a tree with her tongue sticking about and a pencil fluttering around a notebook - alternatively, on and off she'd reference the paperback sitting by her side, pages folded and bookmarked with loopy colorful pen. Underlining, accenting, notes in the margins; technically it was a history project, but more technically she'd stupidly volunteered to work on biographical novels to replace an essay. A book report? Theoretically better! Realistically, probably worse.

She'd been nodding off, but then there was a Crystal girl coming towards her, and that made everything different. "Oh, yes, sure --" Poppy stumbled over her words, tongue heavy in her mouth with the sleep she'd been drifting off into, dropping her pencil in a ragged movement to wave hi. "Sorry, do you want me to leave...? I -- I can go somewhere else..." She was pretty, too, albeit petite like a doll, with amethyst eyes and snow-pale hair. "Did I take your spot? I'm sorry, I shouldn't have drifted off..."

"Merci!" She said with a smile as she sat down and opened her laptop. "Oh no you don't have to move. I just got here." She said with a laugh waving off the idea. "This just looked like a nice spot."

A thought struck her. "Oh, mais où sont mes manières! Bonjour, my name is Ciel Karpusi. It's nice to meet you." She introduced herself to the girl.

She started working on her novel but she couldn't really focus. The curious part of her wondered what the other girl was working. Her curiosity got the better of her.

"So what are you working on? I don't mean to be nosy, but I'm curious." She asked the girl.

"Alright, then," Poppy murmured, scooting a bit to the side to give Ciel better coverage in the shade. Wouldn't do to put her right where the sun would glare off the laptop screen so bright it was blinding - wasn't nice, and Poppy wanted so hard to be nice, to be good. "I'm Poppy Anania-Sedgwick...you go to Crystal, right? I've always wondered what that place is like...I'm Meadowview." She extended a graphite-stained hand to shake, ducking her head shyly. "I don't know any French, sorry, I take sign language instead."

Ciel's curiosity made her smile, flushing a little pink that someone would have interest. "It's just a history project..not anything interesting. I just have a lot of trouble working at home."

"It's a pleasure, Poppy." She said shaking the offered hand not noticing or caring about the graphite-stains.

" Yeah I'm a student at Crystal. Um well the school is really pretty, it has these absolutely beautiful gardens right next to where my archery team practices, I love to go and walk through them before my practice. The teachers are usually really nice and helpful. But the other girls there can be sort of a drag, most of them are total snobs. They're so stuck up and mean, they look down on people who don't come from rich families. I don't get them." She realized she was ranting. "Sorry, you probably don't want to hear me rant about them."

"What about Meadowview, I've never been there or to any public school for that matter. What is it like." She asked genuinely curious.

"Ah don't worry I was more speaking to myself, sorry. French is my first language and sometimes the English word just sounds wrong to me so I use french instead, I'll try to stick to English though." She said with a nervous laugh, she didn't want to offend this girl like she had Teide. "So you know sign language, that's really cool. I've always wanted to learn that myself. I know French, English, and Greek myself."

"Oh cool, I love history, it's like my second favorite subject. What is your project on?" She asked even more curious now.

"Oh I know the feeling. My roomate at the dorms is great but I can never get work done when she's around."

"Archery?" Poppy questioned, eyes wide. "I think we have an archery team at Meadowview, but...it's a big school, so I don't really pay attention to the sports. A-and it's okay! I was getting kind of bored with working on this, anyways, it's nice to hear someone talk...!" She was smiling, hesitant and bright, endlessly gentle.

"Meadowview's nice. It's kind of loud, there's a lot of people...I don't really know what to say about it, I guess? The buildings are nice." She hmmed quietly, picking the stray pencil back up off the ground. "I've known sign as long as I remember." Her hands flickered through a series of signs (translated, reading 'hi, i'm poppy, nice to meet you'), but it didn't cause her to take a breath. "It's a biography about the American Revolution...Thomas Paine? It's nothing, really, it's nothing." Her movements were quick and smooth when she made them, gesturing in the air. "I'm only in regular history, not honors, so...um, it's not anything really nasty."

Her stomach rumbled.

Daekie
wrap on your post?

"yeah, though I'm not really as into as I used to be. I've been thinking about quitting the team." Honestly most of the things she used to enjoy no longer seemed fun. She shook the melancholy thoughts from her head.

Ciel watched with great interest as Poppy signed, she had no clue what the hand signals meant but it was cool to watch.

"That sounds...interesting." She responded a tad disappointed. American history was just something that never caught her interest the way classical or medieval history did.

The sounds of Poppy's stomach did not go unnoticed and Ciel giggled. "How would you like to continue our conversation over lunch, I know this great little café that serves the best french pastries. It'll be my treat." she offered a bit hungry herself.

"That's alright," Poppy commented, smiling. "I don't really do extracurriculars myself...I help clean up the art classrooms after school, that gives me the hours I need sometimes. I get not really being into things anymore...freshman year was really stressful! Let me just --" she signed the phrase again, but slower this time -- "these two mean 'my name'. And the spelling reads Poppy. Sorry, it's just...not a lot of people are interested in sign, so...it's nice to meet someone who finds it interesting."

The mention of food got her perking up, eyes bright. "I m-mean -- if you want to...! We only just met, I don't want to be rude or anything..." But it was an unstated acceptance of the offer. Maybe over lunch, Poppy wouldn't be her normal awkward self, and she'd go home with a new friend.
