Orion stretched out his wings, giving them a little shake as he arched his back. Feeling the therapeutic pop of his joints, he gave a contented little sigh with a shake of his head, his breads beating against his face. Finished, his gave himself a shiver as he trotted in place, stopping down the snow into a neat circle.

'I forgot I cold it got up here,' he thought to himself. Winter had descended early onto the mountain with a vengeance, covering the steep slopes with a thick, icy layer of snow that glimmered brightly even in the overcast sky. Evergreens dotted the rough path down the mountain from the teepee, branches sagging under their cold burden. He stomped down on the snow a few more times, absently making making a large swirl with his hooves as he ran around in circles trying to keep warm.

'What a depressing day for a homecoming,' he thought with a pout.

Eve had always been a wanderer, though it wasn't to find her place in the world, only to see what else was out there. This time she was near the mountains, her hooves sinking beneath the snow hearing the crunch of the frozen grass below was an oddly satisfying feeling. Her winter coat had started to grow in just in time as the winter had come earlier than expected. She had been up early in the morning just at the base of the mountain, the snow was still falling but just barely. Her favorite thing in the morning was to watch the sunrise, though the cloud cover today with the snow didn't make for much of a spectacle. The sparkle of the snow was enough of itself though she was starting to feel the cold more as she walked on. So far on her journey she hadn't encountered many, and she found that to be quite disappointing, but it was far from over so she was still holding out hope. Her path was guided by where she could not travel given the thick ice coverage, one slip would be the end of her in the middle of no where with no one around.

Orion sneezed, his head recoiling backwards at the force. He snorted and shook his head out, continuing his aimless trot, weaving through the trees as he slowly edged his way down the mountain. The normal path was slippery, the snow packed down into hard ice from so many trips up and down the mountain by the herd. Orion could have simply flown down, but well, he didn't really feel like crashing into another tree today.

As he poked his head comically around the last of the trees (all while definitely not humming a nonsensical theme song under his breathe, because he was an adult and adults don't do things like that of course not never), his eyes honed in on a lone figure wandering through the valley. He tilted his head, squinting his eyes as he attempted to make out more detail. They looked familiar...

He shot up straight and a grin spread across his face as he recognized the lone wanderer. He didn't let himself second guess his decision (because he had been away so long and what if she didn't remember him what if she was mad what if what if what if) because he broke out into a sprint.

"Ohhh Misss Eeeevveeee~" he hollered out as he ran, willfully forgetting about the thick sheets of ice that surrounded him. The inevitable happened as he was nearing the mare, one of his front hooves hit smooth ice and he tumbled. He tried to catch himself, his wings flailing outward in an attempt to catch his balance but to no avail.

He tumbled into an ungraceful heap only a few feet away from his target, covered in splotches of dirty snow and his knees and sides aching from the impact. He shook his head and blinked to get the snow off his eyelashes and mane before he finally looked up, grinning and meeting the eyes of his old friend for the first time in what felt like forever.

Eve looked up at that familiar goofy voice, it was refreshing. Looking up it took a few moments to recognize him but she had. “Orion,” a smile spreading across her face. “The same as I last remember you,” she giggled. He had always been a little bit clumsy, all together goofy, and very youthful. Even though his face had filled out a bit more, and a bit of age was starting to show. But it was him, in all of his glory. Once she gathered herself she moved so he could get up safely.

Out of all of the soquili she could’ve run into, it was Orion. For some reason or another she couldn’t wipe the smile off her face, and she would’ve liked to think that she was more composed than that. However, her actions seemed to contradict her inner monologue.

“It has been awhile,” her green eyes meeting his as he got up. He was still covered in snow, though most of it was off and he had managed to miss her when doing so. That much she could appreciate.

“What are you doing all the way out here?” she questioned. It didn’t seem like there was much out here, and Orion always struck her as a social creature. This winter had its moments of being pretty calm, today was not that day. The wind was bitter, her curls rising and falling with it. She had so many questions that she had to hold her tongue to make it not seem like an interrogation or be too excited. She was sure her excitement was plastered all over her face.

"Of course," Orion said with a goofy grin and a playful, exaggerated wink. "Did you expect anything less of me?" He creakily stood himself back onto his feet, shaking his head to brush off the remainder of the dirt and snow that clung to it and gave his wings a quick shake. He wobbled for a second before finally straightening his legs and giving each a good shake in turn.

When he finally looked up again, he couldn't banish the huge grin across his face as he finally took a good look at his old friend. She was just as he remembered, her hair bouncing in soft curls around her face and her eyes, bright and playful. He couldn't help himself as he practically vibrating in happiness before he closed the gap between them in a few quick steps and gave Eve's neck an overly affectionate nudge with his head. He caught one of the curls in-between his teeth and gave it a playful tug before stepping backing, satisfied with his greeting.

"And it, really really has been awhile," he said, his voice softening uncharacteristically, before perking back up. "Aaaannnnnd, I'm just doing a little exploring. Re-acqainting myself with the place, getting the lay of the land, looking for buried pirate booty. You know, the usual," he finished, nonchalantly with an ill-concealed grin.

“Of course not!” She gasped. If he had changed one bit, it would’ve been a travesty. He was just too fun. When he closed the space between them, she could feel her face get warm. There never was personal space when it came to Orion, not that it mattered. He was harmless, and she didn’t mind it. Giggling as he nosed her, she reciprocated before he got her hair, “Hey!” her tail swishing behind her excitedly.

The mare heard the tone change, causing her ear to flicker forward. It didn’t last long though. Had he missed her? A girl could dream. It seemed like her family had already run off and got themselves families, and here she was...still exploring and doing things her grandfather would call childish. Psh. Its what kept her young. “That sounds solid. Any luck?” she questioned, a smile appearing on her face as he did, trying to keep up the act.

Orion felt his heart rate pick up when she returned his affectionate gesture, enjoying the feel of her nose brushing against his neck and the tickle of her mane against his ears. It didn't mean much, he told himself, it was just a familiar gesture between long-time friends. He savored the moment no the less, taking in the warm press of her nose and the faint scene of fresh leaves that had always followed her. He grinned around a mouthful of hair, giving it an extra tug in response to her playful objection before stepping back.

"Alas, my dear lady," Orion responded, attempting to put an air of dejection that didn't quite reach the level of his normal theatrics due to the grin that he had not quite managed to banish from his face. He had to keep himself under control, he told himself. Act normal. Act normal. Act nooooormaaaal. "Oh woe is me, but there be no booty to be found in these here parts," he cried, his words thickening into a exaggerated cockney accent. "Except," he continued, dropping the accent just as easily as he had first put it on. "For this fiiiiiinne booty right here!" He shot a saucy (read: ridiculous) wink at Eve and gave his own rump a good wiggle. "A miiighty fine piece of booty if I do say so myself!"
