     false reflection: This jar of murky water is a little unsettling. Most people can’t quite put their finger on why, but the observant will notice that their reflection upon the surface is a little tall maybe, or a little short. A little thin, or maybe a little sly. This imperfect copy imitates the viewer in every other respect, but no matter who gazes at it, the image reflected back at them is a slightly different face, familiar and yet strange. － － － － － － － －

Slavs of different areas have assigned different personalities to the rusalki. Around the Danube River, where they are called vile (singular vila), rusalki are beautiful, charming girls, dressed always in light robes of mist, singing sweet, bewitching songs to the passersby. The rusalki of northern Russia are ugly, unkempt, wicked, invariably naked, and always eager to ambush humans. All rusalki love to entice men—the vile to enchant them and the northern rusalki to torture them.
During rusalki week, at the beginning of the summer, the nymphs are supposed to emerge from the water and climb into weeping willow and birch trees until night, when they dance in rings in the moonlight. Vesna is an outgoing and lively Raevan who loves to amuse herself and the people around her. She's very positive towards people if they like her, and if she likes you, she'll go out of her way to make time for you. Because of her powers, everyone literally sees Vesna differently, so it's very easy for her to unwittingly play up her personality to please them, which is frustrating, because she would like to have more control over her self image.
Subsequently, she finds it difficult to live with Lorenzo because he considers her an undead rusalka rather than a living Raevan. She gets a little rebellious towards him, and anybody else who forces her to confront things which are stressful to her. This generally manifests in irreverent teasing and avoidance. She doesn’t like to take things too seriously, but this makes it difficult for her to think about the consequences of her actions. As long as she’s enjoying something, even if she knows it’s harmful, she tries to ignore that part of it until confronted. She gets lonely easily and really wants to have people around, but she’s bad at conflict, and her first instinct when someone upsets her is to push them away.
Vesna swings between having periods of high self esteem when things are fine and low self esteem when things go wrong. Her flippant attitude towards life is her own easygoing nature, but is intentionally exaggerated when she is dealing with emotional issues.

❃ magical glamour (passive, but can be made active): Taking from both her soul and her essence, Vesna’s appearance can change subtly to reflect the desires of the person looking at her. If she exercises her will, this can become more elaborate, like a disguise. However, it’s simply an illusion, not a transformation, and she will have no idea what she looks like herself in this disguise. If her will is not exercised, this is just an extremely small and subtle illusion, and the extent to which her appearance changes and what it changes to is entirely dependent on the suggestiveness and preference of the person looking at her in question. This can be frustrating for Vesna, as she feeds on reflections and subsequently cannot see her own, but when she asks about her appearance, nobody’s description of her is quite the same.
❃ slippery skin (active): Vesna can make her skin slippery enough to slip from someone’s grasp, helping her get away in difficult situations. If she has not drunk or touched water in a while, this ability will be more difficult for her to activate.
❃ reflecting pool (active): Vesna can create an imperfect double of herself or anybody who she knows from a pool of water. If touched, the double will immediately return to the water it came from, and it cannot speak. There will always be something visually different from the real person about it, but it can be a different thing each time. If the double turns back to water against Vesna’s will, it saps a great deal more of her energy than it would otherwise, and she will be of little use to anybody until she can rest. If undisturbed, Vesna can hypothetically keep the double solid for as long as she can stay awake, but the more tired or unfocused she is, the less perfect the double will be.
❃ rusalnaya nedelja (passive): Like the Rusalka which serves as her soul, Vesna is stronger and has slightly more control over her powers during the Slavic Green Week, otherwise called “Rusalki Week” in early June. During this time, she is also slightly more mischievous, as she has more energy and is also a bit more physically resilient than usual.

❃ reflections: Mirrors do not work around Vesna, as she feeds off of reflections, both of herself and others. Cameras cannot capture an image with Vesna in it, either. To feed off a reflection, she must be positioned so that normally she would be present in it. She cannot feed off of the reflection of something that is not sentient.
❃ reflective surfaces: Any non-manmade thing that could reflect an image upon its surface.
❃ infatuation: If someone has been dazzled by Vesna, she can feed off of the emotion. This is not the same as romantic love or filial affection.

☠ appearance
A gangly, dark young man who is usually wearing an impressive cape which he is liable to trip over. Underneath the cape, as a nod to the Modern Professional Work Environment, he wears a nice dress shirt, vest, and slacks, but the vest has protection symbols sewn into it as a functional and fashionable design element. In private, he dresses to be comfortable, and has a number of embarrassing hand-knitted sweaters. His hair swoops somewhat limply, and tends to stick up all over the place if he's stressed or tired.
☠ personality
Lorenzo is an optimist and a workaholic, which serves him well as a necromancer, as the magic is time-consuming and often fails. He is sympathetic, but not terribly empathetic- being an extremely isolated individual who spent a lot of time studying a very solitary art makes it difficult for him to understand others. He dislikes physical contact as well, since he touches enough dead things already, Thank You, and necromancers tend to be slightly suspicious of people anyway, due to their tendency to form angry mobs.
Because of the nature of his work, Lorenzo tries hard to seem confident, friendly, and put-together, but he is incredibly socially anxious. Instead of retreating from social situations that stress him out, he ends up acting extra-peppy to desperately try to hide how uncomfortable he is.
He also has a few pretentious affectations despite himself: to keep his Latin sharp, he listens to Latin news radio, and he judges people who like zombie movies, because he assumes that they carry biased assumptions about the undead, many of whom are his friends. It's easy to get Lorenzo into a fight over semantics or relative morality online, especially on the popular dark magic blogging forum, "cov.en". Due to stereotypes against necromancers, he tries to resist the melodrama, but sometimes a nefarious chuckle will slip out here and there, and he has more than a couple of spare body parts floating around in tasteful and discreet jars.
☠ history
Raised by a living undead rights lawyer mother and an undead father, Lorenzo was raised with a very practical view to dark magic, and became well used to dealing with the problems of the undead. Sewing limbs back on and reapplying cursed runes became second nature to him. When he went to college, he studied undead law for a time himself before switching majors to necromancy, finding the ethical complications of being undead to be more tiring and less rewarding than the day-to-day satisfication of dealing with problems hands on. Graduating with honors, he opened a small shop in Durem where he resides now, mostly dealing with small-time pet revivals and undoing recent or minor accidental deaths, such as hairdryer-falling-into-bathtub accidents. He also patches up members of the undead, provides consultation to those considering becoming undead, and sometimes helps his mother shelter particularly delicate clients.

❃ nicolina fischLorenzo's mother, a prominent undead rights lawyer operating in Durem. Her office is strictly nonprofit, and she works around the clock to represent her clients fairly. She's a planner with a tight schedule and a practical approach to life, but she's also very charismatic and empathetic. When not working, she likes to play chess, pet cats, and read historical novels.

Lorenzo's father, a member of the Barton Guard. He's been undead since Lorenzo was ten, but he still tries to do dad things with his son. Possessed of a very strong moral compass and a practical, one-step-at-a-time approach, he sees unlife as a necessary state of being for pursuing his duty as a guard. His reflexes have slowed considerably, however, and he requires people to be a little patient with him. In his spare time, he likes to play chess, knit, polish his armor, and cook. Since he no longer requires sleep, he's more able to spend time with Nicolina at the odd hours that she keeps, and their marriage has improved considerably. Both of them advise each other about their work and they have a relationship more built on trust than fiery romance.

Though she wasn't fully aware of what she was getting into, she managed to save Lorenzo's sorry hide more than once, and the pair parted ways as friends.  ❃ guinevere jonesA Herald that Lorenzo has hired to help with secretarial work and research from time to time, and who he knows through their mutual friends from his graduate program. Guinevere helped Lorenzo look into some potential rebirthing options on Gaia for the rusalka that eventually became Vesna's soul.
