User ImageFaelon had been in an even better mood ever since he made his first friend outside of the family. Miss Si'vana was so cool with her branchless antlers and FEET and TOES and her BAT WINGS and was such a cool faun to meet and talk to and BE FRIENDS with; he couldn't wait to tell his daddy all about her when he finally got out of timeout.

Today wasn't that day either it seemed.

Continuing on his bubbly walk through the tree, his ears perked as he noticed another yellow faun with really big and fluffy wings; bigger than his mom's and aunties' even! So cool! Grinning, he started his fast little skip-hop-skip on over to her, waving excitedly once he'd cleared about half the distance (as he seemed to enjoy doing to make sure they noticed him coming over and could reaction in time).

"Hi! I'm Faelon! I like your wings! Who're you?"

User ImageSona had attempted to heed her mother's warning and keep a low profile as much as she could. With the inward turmoil laying heavy on them like a blanket, she didn't want to do anything that could cause issues with her family. Still, there were days like today she couldn't help herself. She needed to be out and about helping. It was wrong if she didn't. The Tree and its inhabitants were a community that needed everyone on board helping.

So her mother let her join her, but only if she kept close. So much for being an adult and all. This all made her feel like she was still a child under her parent's roof. The thought saddened her for a second as she thought about her father. He'd attempted a bit of communication with them, but it wasn't the same as being there. She shifted the basket to her other hip and sighed, things were so different here than home. She missed it, missed the place where she was so readily accepted. She saw them, the way some looked at her. It was hard to miss.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a small voice. Her eyes grew wide and she shot a look at her mother before attempting to curl her wings up tighter against her body. The compliment didn't go unnoticed, a soft warmth spread through her chest, but at the same time she glanced around to make sure it hadn't brought on any unwanted eyes.

User ImageMama Blues knew the young one all well. Everyone who cherished the Princesses knew of their children- every birth had given them great joy. It showed they were thriving in this new land! She grinned at the small one and replied for the pair in her heavy accent, “Good tah see ya, sir Faelon!” She gave him a slight bow. “I'm Fortissimo, but ya can just call me Mama Blues. This here is mah daughter Sonata. Sona fer short. We're honored tah finally make yer acquaintance. Been hear'n a lot about ya!” She gently tried to avoid the wing comment knowing how awkward it made Sona feel. She gave the young one a side glance seeing her visibly relax.

“What is a young'n like yerself do'n this afternoon?”

For all the discomfort that Sona clearly displayed at the question, Faelon's smile remained unwavering. He was genuine in his compliment: they just looked so big and fluffy; how come he didn't get any wings like his mama? Sometimes, just sometimes, he was a little jealous of the pegasi fauny (which he assumed Sona to be), especially when they were so big like this.

He had yet to notice the halo.

And he wouldn't notice for a while as his attention was caught by the vibrant blue uni-fauny now in front of him. Gasping loudly and then giggling, he couldn't even try to contain his excitement. "You know my name?!" He felt like the most downright special little faun ever, especially when it came from someone who talked so funny (mind you, he didn't quite realize he'd told it to her in the first place). "Hi Miss Mama Blues and Miss Sona!" He waved again. "I was looking for Miss Si'vana - she's my new friend! - to say hi and I saw Sona's su-u-uper fluffy wings and I thought they were really cool and pretty so I wanted to say hi to her and tell her I thought they were really cool and pretty and be her friend." He grinned. "Then you said hi to me and now we're talking and... Woah!" He paused and pointed at the cutie mark on her hip. "What's that?!"

Sona flushed at how positively excited the little one was about her wings. She smiled at him shyly not really sure how to take it. This was the first time she'd been put on this sort of spot. She'd been trying to keep herself hidden for so long it was weird finding someone here of all places to admire her. She went ahead and let herself relax, letting her wings go from their balled up position and letting them sit comfortably against her. She was still acutely aware of others around them, but with this little ball of happy sunshine she didn't care at the moment.

She gave him a slight wave at his comment about saying hi and wanting to be her friend. She looked a little bewildered at that before exchanging a look with her mom. She grinned brightly and nodded excitedly to which her mother smiled in returned. Sona was glad the pair were talking up a storm. It made it seem more like she was just shy than unable to talk... Oh, spirits, always another thing to worry about for her.

"'Course I do, hun." Mama Blues chuckled at him. "Why, everyone who loves yer Mama knows about the pair y'all. Y'all were a big deal to us when yah were born." She smiled sweetly at him, honored that she'd be the one to let him know how important he was to the Fauny folk. She wasn't sure how much of that he'd understand, but she hoped the two of them would get it as they grew up.

After smiling at her daughter she turned back to him, "Sona thinks that's a mighty fine idea, sir Faelon. She'd love tah be your friend as would I! She's also honored that you'd notice her wings and say such nice things 'bout 'em. I mean look at her she's beaming." Mama Blues grinned at her red cheeked daughter who only looked to get even more shy by her mother's teasing. She decided to take some liberty with the next part, but knew her daughter wouldn't mind her saying so "She likes yer complexion. The both y'all are such a lovely yellah."

Mama Blues paused, lifting her hoof so she could take a look at her side where he was pointing at. "Ah, ya scared me, hun!" Mama Blues laughed, setting her hoof down. "I thought there was a someth'n on me. Why that's just mah cutie mark! They're musical symbols- I use tah be a singer."

Faelon couldn't believe that he and his brother were apparently so important. He understood he was important to his family, at least, (they were important to him too after all), but he thought that was it. Maybe a little important to Miss Si'vana now, but to anyone outside of that group, he never would have guessed. He still didn't know just how important his mom was to the faunies and likely wouldn't for quite a while. Best to let him grow up as a 'normal' faun, after all.

At the declaration that they were now all friends, Faelon just jumped up one and squeeled before walking forward to give Mama Blues a hug, then Sona. He might have paused a bit to rub his face in her wings (so soft!).

"What's a cutie mark?"

Was that symbol shape the cutie mark? Maybe he could draw it sometime to show Haldir. It was a pretty shape anyways. Either way, he gasped at her next statement. "You're a singer?!"

Sona and Mama Blues exchanged smiles at his expression of joy. The kid's happiness was pretty contagious, even Sona hadn't felt herself smile this much in awhile now. She was pretty surprised though when he stepped forward to hug her. She awkwardly leaned over to return it, with an equally awkward part on his back. What really got to her was the way he took the chance to rub his face into her wings. A hand came over her mouth in an attempt to hide the smile at the action- the kid was too much! So adorable!

Mama Blues looked a bit surprised at his question. Had his Momma never taught him what a cutie mark was? She was a quiet for a moment trying to figure out a way to explain it to him, all while wondering if she shouldn't have brought up the topic. Someone would have to have a good reason to not teach their kids such a vital lesson about themselves, right?

“Sorry, hun, it's an old name fer 'em. Back from where some of us are from they symbolized our lot in life- er, uh-” she stopped to think of an easier way to explain it, tapping her lower lip in thought “-they kinda showed what we were meant tah do in life. So, like mine, it showed off the fact I was a singer.” She frowned at herself, realizing she'd never had to explain it before, at least not to a young one who may or may not understand. He seemed smart though, she was sure through explanation or questions they'd get to an understanding. “But now things have changed since com'n here. They're just mark'ns like the nice yellah on yer own body. Just pretty tah look at.”

Mama Blues gave off a hearty laugh at his gasp and question, man this kid was great. “Use tah be, hun. I haven't sung since coming home tah the tree. Can't seem tah find my singing voice.” She smiled sadly at the young one, ruffling his hair a bit “But your enthusiasm reminds me of why I use tah do it.”

“Are ya only friends with adults, sir Faelon, or ya got some yer own age?”

Faelon listened to Mama Blues in wide-eyed concentration as she explained about cutie marks, somehow the dots connecting just enough for him to get the jist of it. Must have been more than just his fur that was bright (hue). "So would thiiiiiis be a cutie mark?" he asked, pointing to the strange symbol on his hip, which he thrust out rather dramatically as he did so. His mom didn't really seem to like it all that much, he'd noticed, but maybe it had something to do with how strange he and his brother was to begin with. Not that that was a bad thing; he liked being strange!

And golden.

Sometimes he wished he had his big sibling's wolf paws; so fluffy!

Then he gasped. "You don't sing anymore?! Oh no! I bet ya got the prettiest singing voice ever if you used to be a singer, cause singers always got super pretty singing voices." He crossed his arms and nodded like this was a serious matter. "I'd sing with you if you're scared to do it alone! It's not as scary when you're alone, that's what mommy says."

He paused at her new question before shaking his head. "Nope! Haldir's my friend too!" Was it bad to mostly be friends with adults?

Mama Blues tried to hold back laughter at the small one's reaction. She nodded down at him as he showed her the marking on his hip. He sure did catch on, but his antics were positivley hilarious. She wasn't sure if anyone could hold a straight face with him. “Yessir, back home thatta be yer cutie mark, but fer this land's sake it's a beautiful marking ya got there, hun. Ya wear it proudly, ya hear.”

Sona laid a hand on her mom's shoulder as the female shook her head at Faelon, “Naw I dun sing no more.” She smiled sadly at his sweet words not sure how to go about explaining her predicament to him. He hit in on the head, yes she was scared, but scared to fail again not necessarily of singing itself. The memories still stung. “Iff'n I find mah sing'n voice again I'd love tah sing with you, hun. Fer now I just gotta figure out where it has gone off to.”

“Well that's nice. We'd like tah meet this Haldir sometime. Its good ya got so many friends, sir Faelon. You cherish all of them alright? It's good ya make friends with the older ones as well, some can teach ya a thing or two 'bout life. Anyone teach ya a good life lesson ya can share with Mama Blues?”

It appeared that Faelon had gotten his mother's perceptiveness, if only that, from her personality. He pouted slightly, not really understanding why it was that Mama Blues couldn't sing. She obviously wanted to since she was all sad and all, so why didn't she just go and do it. Would she get put in time-out like his daddy if she did; did the Chieftain hate singing?! What a meanie-face if he didn't let the others sing just because he didn't like it.

Faelon had a mind to go and declare his thoughts to him right this very instant!

But his mom would probably get upset with him if he did that, and they'd already moved to a different topic. "I can bring him next time if ya want! He's really quiet though, but he'll come if I make him tell him to! I bet he'd like you too. He's got funny antlers like this... he raised his hands up to where his own antlers protruded from his head and fanned his palms outward.

Letting them fall, he gave Mama Blues a big smile and a nod. "Mhm!" he paused before gasping and raising his hand. "Oh! I got one; did you know some faun have FEET and TOES?(!) Miss Si'vana taught me that."

Mama Blues chuckled and nodded along at his explanation, “Iff'n he wants tah we'd be glad to meet him. You and I can chat while he and Sona can be quiet together. So no one gets left out.” she teased. Sona made a bit of a face at her, but Mama Blues waved it off. She then motioned at her mother and they both smiled as Mama Blues turned back to Faelon, “Sona thinks yer antlers suit you. If she had any she'd like 'em to be just like your's.”

She exchanged looks with her daughter. Feet and toes? She'd never met any faun with those, but Sona's father certainly did. This raised a slight question in Mama Blue's mind. She'd seen other that looked to have mixed decent, but was there some that showed it off? That brought a tiny bit of comfort to the pair, but still left a lot of questions in its wake. They had both been so careful about rubbing Sona's 'differences' in other's faces that it was curious that even a small one as he would pick up on something like that on someone else. Had it been an accident with the young one just being observant? Either way, they would continue to be careful with Sona. Even with her swearing herself to the Tree there were some that didn't react kindly to her...

“That's a very curious thing, sir Faelon. Thank you for sharing it! We will have to meet this Miss Si'vana some time and see them for ourselves!” Mama Blues slowly said the name, attempting to copy the way he was saying it since she wasn't particularly sure who that was. Perhaps if they did they'd find a way for Sona to fit in better...

At the mention of himself and his own antlers, Faelon blushed lightly (grinning brightly) and glanced down to look at his hoof rotating in place. "Thanks~" For all the outlandish and direct things he so often said, he wasn't as good at receiving the same. The embarrassment lasted for but a moment, however, before he looked back up, giddy as a goat.

"Okay! She's green 'n tall 'n has hu-u-u-uge..." he opened his arms to emphasise how huge "...wings. But they don't got feathers or nothin'. Kinda like this..." Faelon moved one of his hands forward and extended the fingers far away from each other. He then pointed in-between each of the individual fingers. "...but with funny stuff in-between. It looks pretty cool!" He pulled his hands back and brought them to rest behind his back.

Sona covered her mouth where a smile grew from his description. She pictured some insanely large wings from what he was describing, but wondered how close to the truth it had to be. She couldn’t imagine how difficult it had to be to control something like that… But hey, the kid was cute while he said it, right? She could appreciate that enthusiasm.

Mama Blues nodded, leaning over in order to get close to see where he was pointing. A little spark lightened in her mind at his description. She’d gone to a Venus Day event and could picture some of the Pae there that could fit that wing description. Had a Faun gotten involved with one like she was?

She straightened when he took his hand away, smiling sweetly at him, “Ah, yes, I’m see’n where ya com’n from. That sounds mighty interest’n and I’m glad you ain’t scared of no giant winged lady. You must be a brave soul, sir Faelon.”

She felt Sona tap on her shoulder and turned to the other for a moment. She nodded at her when she motioned with the basket in her hand. She’d almost forgotten the work they’d been in the middle of, “I’m sorry tah be do’n this to you, hun, but Sona reminded me we best be get’n back to work. We sure did enjoy the chat so let’s catch up again real soon, kay?”

"Scared...? Tilting his head, the tot looked utterly perplexed by the notion. Why would he ever be afraid of Silvana? She was the coolest! No need to be brave.

Stretching to the tips of his hooves, he looked upwards to try and eye why Mama Blues was talking about. Baskets...? Oh! Were they going to grab things?! He wanted to go to! And he would have said so, his eyes sparkling and his mouth open, hands to either side of him, if his mother's nagging voice hadn't crossed his mind. 'Do not be a bother for others now...' Boo... He wasn't being a bother...

Closing his mouth into a smile and rocking backwards, he brought his hands behind his back and nodded. "Okie dokie. See you again~!" His voice trailed off and he waved both arms above his head in goodbye.
