Fitness
As far as Rhys is concerned, fitness is what saved his life. He grew up hard and had to face a number of things kids should never have to face, and without this his life would probably have turned out differently. His first exposure to it was around the time he started middle school, and it just snowballed from there. His high school football coach taught him to take his anger out on his own body in a healthy, productive way; use the extra energy to build himself up instead of tear someone else down. As a result, the activity became very cathartic for him, and after a while it became his default stress reliever. Even now, after getting his life mostly in order, it's still his number one coping mechanism.
Massages
This is one of those activities that benefits his friends since he likes to give massages as much as he gets them. It isn't unusual to find Rhys rushing to a regularly scheduled appointment with his private masseuse as It is his second-most favorite way to wind down despite it being certainly much less accessible than the gym. Over the years, rather than just getting them, he's also come to find that giving them seems to be relaxing in its own right. He actually went to the trouble of learning how it's done from a professional, and he's been known to trade massages for favors ever since. He likes to think that he's rather good after working as a part-time masseur while he was in EMT school.
Parkour
Youtube can be a very dangerous thing to someone who's feeling bored, indifferent and looking for something new and exciting to do. That was Rhys's mindset when he came across his first Parkour video on the site, and he just fell in love with it. It was a high-intensity cardio workout with the added bonus of the adrenaline rush. So he saved up what he could, read up, took classes and practiced, practiced, practiced. After two years he's become exceptionally skilled but, as with anything relating to workouts, is always looking to improve in order to expand on the sorts of obstacles he can take on. He enjoys the challenge and the various ways that he can apply it in a body weight workout capacity.
Skateboarding
It was his first ever "set of wheels," and he's just been attached ever since. He doesn't actually skateboard, per se; it's primarily just a mode of transport for him, but he does enjoy attempting the occasional trick if he's up to the risk of accidentally breaking his board. When he needs to brainstorm he also just likes to gets on it and think. Usually he's either trying to balance on the back wheels or just idly rolling around. Both are, of course, very dangerous activities when one isn't paying attention, but thankfully he has mind enough to not do this out in the middle of any street. He also enjoys disassembling and reassembling it, particularly when it's late and he's having a hard time falling asleep.
Virtues:
- [+] Earnest
- No matter what it may look like to everyone else, Rhys puts his best into whatever he chooses to do. This is perhaps the one trait that allowed him to work his way out of the hard life he had growing up, and one of the things that really keeps him going. He's an incredibly dedicated sort of person, and while he may go about things grumbling on the outside, inside is usually a whole other story. When he believes in something you can bet he will put his everything into it to make sure he gets the best results that he can. He isn't so naive as to believe that everything will always turn out the way he wants, but he knows he has a hell of a better shot at things going that way if he puts in the right kind of effort.
- [+] Fit
- Fitness is a way of life for Rhys; he lives and breathes it and has been known to rant on and on about it whenever he has a chance. It's what kept him from turning to anything else when he was struggling the most, and he takes great pride in knowing that he can use it to encourage others that were struggling like he was when he was younger and still piecing together his life. He does use it to reach out to younger kids and live by example as a healthy individual, both physically and mentally, usually by volunteering at a local rec center from time to time. Truth be told he isn't so outspoken about it, but if he sees that someone needs some kind of an outlet, he'd be the first to advocate some form of exercise.
- [+] Genuine
- What you see is what you get, flaws and all. Rhys doesn't believe in hiding behind a mask, though that doesn't mean to say that he's anything even remotely close to an open book either. Genuine and private are two very different things, and he just doesn't see any point in pretending to be someone you're not. That said, he considers the need to "fit in" something that doesn't apply to him. If asked for advice he would encourage someone to be who they are and find company that enjoys spending time with them anyway. He isn't necessarily blunt about calling things out as he sees them--he does have a little tact; he just isn't a fan of people who, to him, feel as though they're always hiding something.
- [+] Trooper
- For Rhys, the saying goes more like, "If you get knocked down, don't bother getting up. Just keep moving." Down and out is not something that he willingly embraces, and when it happens to him he tries to keep moving anyway. It's during the bad times that he'll shine the brightest, whether it's the most dramatic situation or the simplest one. Did he wake up late? Did he break his wrist? Did he lose someone out in the field? Did a friend stab him in the back? Whatever the case, in unfavorable situations he doesn't believe in giving up or backing down. He believes in perseverance and hard work and setting a goal for himself and achieving it. This is what keeps him going and motivated every single day.
Flaws:
- [–] Abrasive
- For all the good that he could be doing for the community, social situations are perhaps what keep Rhys from reaching the very peak of his potential. His way with words is rather poor and the best way he knows to communicate is direct and to the point, which of course isn't always the best way to get through to someone. Good intentions aside, he still prefers to speak plainly and simply, and more often than not it comes out a lot harsher than he means for it to. This usually makes him come off as gruff and harsh and unfriendly, which (if he were being honest) he's perfectly fine with. He doesn't really need too many friends, anyway. The less people there are to tell him to "watch his language," the better.
- [–] Cautious
- Relationships are hard enough to navigate if you were able, to any degree, of trusting someone, so for Rhys, who has had trouble trusting anyone from a young age, they are perhaps the most difficult thing to deal with. His experiences have molded his mindset about relationships in such a way that he keeps everyone, even those he might consider "friends" in certain situations, an arm's length away to keep himself safe. He understands that relationships can make him dependent, that it might soften him and make him vulnerable, and that is perhaps one of the things he fears the most. To be vulnerable again. As such, he keeps things close to the vest, and his relationships are often shallow, at best.
- [–] Resentful
- Despite being able to outwardly move on from various unfavorable situations, emotionally Rhys can get very stuck in the past. He is a grudge holder, and if you've done wrong by him in any way that he considers grave, you can bet that he remembers and is still holding on to it even if it's been years and years since it happened. He never seeks revenge, of course, but he will act out of spite and talk you down to others or share the story of how you did him wrong as an example of how you're not worthy of anyone's time or trust. He certainly won't be glad to see you, and will likely bring up the past to remind you of how you failed him. Short of saving his life, there is no way to redeem yourself in his eyes.
- [–] Willful
- With the exception of his work, since it does involve life and death, Rhys typically cannot be told what to do. Rather, you can talk all you want but he won't be listening to you so it's better to just save your breath. He tends to do what he wants, when he wants and how he wants to do it, even if he's told that there are better or more efficient ways to get something done. He is rarely a team player if he isn't appointed captain, and if he isn't he will likely only start listening to orders in response to physical threats or reprimands (which very few people have tried considering his size and stature). The only time reason will ever get through to him is if he's already tried his way and failed, and he needs another way.

Challenge: I've got orders to take you out!
Uniform: Inspired by the ME3 alliance uniform. Please refer to reference, huzzah~! Color-wise, I'd imagine black and gray, and whatever color accents there are should be carmine red.
Weapon
Dual Metal Bracers -- Just a matching pair of cosplay-type bracers. Gunmetal, metallic material, and it maybe hurts if you get hit in the face with it. It also actually looks kind of cool.
- Magic: None
Arm Blade -- Fancier bracers that can summon an arm blade that extends out from the middle of his forearm to 9in from the tips of fingers. The blade itself is gem-like in appearance and is the same carmine red as his namesake. It's fastenings are gunmetal, much like the bracers. The blade can be transferred from one bracer to the other at will, but can never be on both bracers simultaneously.
- Magic: A perpetual steam is always rising from the blade, and anyone besides Carminite that comes in contact with it will experience a moderate burning sensation (uncomfortable--think burnt tongue with a hot drink type discomfort) that disappears once contact has stopped.
Badass Arm Blade -- Even fancier bracers that can summon a larger, fancier, more doom-looking arm blade. The blade is still the same gem-like appearance in the same color, and now extends from his elbow to about 18in from the tips of his fingers. Its fastenings are gunmetal, much like the bracer. The blade can be transferred from one bracer to the other at will, but can never be on both bracers simultaneously.
- Magic: A perpetual steam is always rising from the blade, and anyone besides Carminite that comes in contact with it will experience a severe burning sensation (painful, as if being scalded by boiling hot water) and can even cause minor (only first degree) burns to linger even after the contact has stopped.
