After trying to train with Dionysus and getting another fighting crash course with a half-human dragon-man, it had made sense for Aludra to contact Teide next. Just a little tête-à-tête with her best friend and maybe a few good tips on how to take on the Negaverse without getting pummelled into the ground.

It wasn’t that Aludra had done terribly so far, it was just hard when you knew you could be facing down a sword or spear. A little training would go a long way for building more confidence in the field and she had made the Knight a promise to get stronger.

Once Teide had agreed, Aludra sent the directions and was waiting in the cold morning at a quiet running track near her house. The sun had hardly risen, yet to chase away the chill and so she had bundled herself up in a coat and was already munching on one of her homemade cookies.

The sun was barely up yet, but then Teide supposed that was the point. It was weird to be powered up in AM hours, but that had been Aludra's idea - maybe they'd be less likely to be accosted by Negaversers at this hour, while the forces of Chaos were sound asleep.

Aludra was easy to spot, her green hair catching the first rays of sunlight. Teide bounded over, her borrowed parka flapping against the sides of her dress. "Good morning!" she called, skidding to a halt in front of her friend - she'd swapped her filigree sandals out for high socks and sneakers before leaving, because it was just too cold to leave her toes exposed.

She eyed the cookie Aludra was eating, and her stomach growled rudely. "We can get started," Teide offered, "But first, I have to ask - did you bring enough to share?"

There were reasons for her choice of getting out of bed before the sun was hardly doing its job. For one thing, Aludra was getting sick of hanging around at night. She’d wanted, just once, to have a good sleep and then wake up early to hang out with a friend in daylight hours. And being a Sunday, the area was mostly deserted, her mum was fast asleep until at least 10am and her dad was away at a work conference.

It was especially nice to see Teide approaching with the sun giving her dress that extra little sparkle. Yeah, waking up early had definitely been worth it.

“Good morning,” Aludra chimed back, brushing crumbs from her cheek and grinning. She crouched, rifling through the bag at her feet and pulling out a kitchen towel. Holding it carefully, she flipped back to reveal more than enough chocolate chip cookies to keep them going through their training session.

“Of course! I made these at home. Chocolate chip- and I have orange juice as well.”

Teide squealed excitedly and reached for a cookie. "You're the best!" she exclaimed. "Don't tell Hvergelmir I said that. She's also the best. But for different reasons. And she didn't bake cookies!" She took a bite, grinned, and flashed Aludra a thumbs up. "These are really good!" she said, covering her mouth with her hand.

She finished the cookie quickly and brushed the crumbs off her gloves. "Okay," said Teide, "Are you ready? I don't want to hurt you, so tell me if I'm getting too intense or something."

The negaverse didn't spar she thought. The negaverse trained through action, by throwing you off roofs and coming at you with everything they had. The scar on her shoulder still stung where Bischofite had sliced it open.

That had been a long time ago.

"You know the basics, right?" she asked. "How to punch? How to block?"

Aludra blushed with delight and munched her way through a second cookie, more than happy to share the position of best spot with Hvergelmir. It was also wonderful to have a friend try and enjoy your food. "I always put extra chocolate chips," she told her cookie making secret leaning slightly forward, a hand curled at the corner of her mouth.

But now it was down to business and Aludra lifted her head, trying out her best serious face as she brushed away the last of the crumbs.

"I- um… sort of?" Her cheeks flushed red, this time with embarrassment. "I’ve been working at punching and dodging, and I read up on stuff online but… I kind of made most of the basic stuff up." Blocking especially was usually just raise your arms and hope that what was about to hit you didn’t hit too hard.

Teide nodded, a knot of frustration forming in her chest. No wonder the Negaverse was kicking Order's butt all over the world! They were up against a bunch of kids with no training. "Let's get started," she suggested. "We can eat more later."

She took a step back. "A lot of people, when they tell you how to fight, they try to teach you martial arts stuff," she said, standing with her feet shoulder width apart. "Stand ready - like this. Have good form. In a real fight, no one's gonna wait for you to get your bearings. So you just kind of have to... know the basics, and then improvise."

"Show me how you make a fist," she suggested. "That's really basic. A lot of people do it wrong. It's a good way to break your thumbs."

Aludra faced off against Teide, mimicking her stance. "Oh! I know how to do that. It was the first thing I Google’d." She held out a hand and closed it, with the thumb tucked against her fingers under the fist. "I know that if it’s inside, it will break."

Even being fairly sure she had this right, she still looked to Teide for assurance, waiting eagerly for some form of praise because she was pretty sure this was the last thing she was going to know and wanted to enjoy it.

Teide smiled - at least Aludra knew that much. She would have felt retroactively awful to realize her friend had been running around not only with no idea how to defend herself, but also likely to injure herself worse in the process. "That's good," she assured her. "And you've got your wrist straight. Good."

"Lieutenants don't have bladed weapons," she said, holding up her arms in demonstration of a block, "So your arms are good for stopping them from getting at your face and chest. You need to keep their hands away from here in a fight."

She tapped her sternum. "But you know that," Teide added, pursing her lips. Aludra was a super senshi. She'd been around the block a few times.

"Captains, generals," she continued, "they're more likely to have blades. The best defense against those is to not get hit in the first place. And watch out for your fingers." She bit her lip. "I think my club would have gotten spikes. If I'd stayed."

Her current crystal ball was probably not much good in a fight - the chain seemed too fragile to hold the orb's weight if she swung it too fast.

This was all information that technically she knew. At some point she’d realized, after a few scuffles with Chaos, that some of them hit harder than others, some of them could do serious damage and it was best to keep out of the way. If you had to engage, protect your core.

It was information she knew but was worthwhile going over again. Just hearing it spoken out loud, instead of just an idea swimming around, was reassuring. It made her feel as though maybe she wasn’t just flailing in the dark, hoping to hit something.

Aludra nodded a bit and made noises at the appropriate places. She still had her fists up, waiting for further instructions, her gaze fixed on Teide. “It helps that I’m quick and small,” that was one good part of being a Chibi. You could run away from a fight faster than anyone else. Of course, she wouldn’t be saving any of her friends but turning tail.

It was hard to imagine Teide as a Negaverse General now. Her mental image of her friend was now solidly that of rainbows and sunshine.

"Yeah," agreed Teide. If Aludra ever got in over her head, she could definitely outrun pretty much anyone, and her magic was as good a diversion as anyone had. "They can't hurt what they can't catch." As long as her friend had a good sense of when to fight and when to run, she didn't see this going wrong at all.

She took a step back, light on her feet. "Let's get started," Teide suggested, raising her hands - palms open for light strikes. "I'll do my best to move like an officer, and you'll just try to fend me off, okay? So let's go."

She feinted to the right, and then darted forward, hand outstretched towards Aludra's sternum. It was time to see if her friend had gotten the most important lesson - keep their hands away from your chest.

“Okay, I’m ready,” Aludra voice came out slightly breathless, as she lifted both fists and tucked her arms tight against her body.

When Teide came at her, from the right, her natural instinct was to dart away and out of range, one hand flying to try whacking Teide’s away before it could reach her chest. Keep them at a distance. Though it also made it impossible to counter attack properly if all you kept doing was evading.

She flashed her friend a grin but was otherwise focused, waiting for the next move.

Aludra whacked Teide's outstretched hand, but then she reached forward with the other, planting her index finger on the senshi's sternum. "I can't do it anymore," she said, pressing down, "but you get the picture."

She pulled her hand away. "Most of them have two hands," she chided gently. "Remember that, and let's try again."

She took a step back, and then executed a swift sidestep that Bischofite would have been proud of if he'd been alive to see and swung her open palm towards the side of Aludra's head.

It could have been over.

So quickly and so easily.

Aludra flushed with her chagrin and vowed not to fail this time. If they were going to do this properly, she had to forget it was Teide just for a moment. She had to be serious.

With Teide aiming for her head, Aludra dropped into a crouch and then launched forward, trying to tackle the Knight and knock her to the ground.

It all happened so fast. Teide shrieked as Aludra shoved her legs out from under her, which sent her tumbling to the ground in a blink of an eye. Stay calm, she thought, biting her tongue against training that said to bite and kick and kill. "You got me!" she wailed, struggling against the senshi who was now on top of her. "But are you prepared for...?"

She worked a hand loose and shoved it towards Aludra's side - maybe she was ticklish?

At no point had Aludra actually expected that to work and now that she was on top of Teide, she wasn’t sure what to do next. So she just stayed where she was and acted as a dead weight, not really trying to restrain Teide in any other way than simply being on top of her.

She made a deadly mistake. Thinking herself in a position of power she did not anticipate or prepare for the next attack. Yes, it turned out, Aludra was ticklish.

"Aaah stop no," was all she managed to say before she exploded with laughter, instantly coiling up and trying to roll sideways.
