Decran yawned and stretched as he padded into the common room. Usually his studying nights were spent cooped up in his dorm with his familiars curled around him. Tonight, though, the surroundings had made him restless and unable to concentrate. So he’d packed his things up and moved off towards the common area. He half hoped that no one would be there, as he really didn’t need the distraction. So when he stepped into the room, his face scrunched up into a frown and he sighed.

Someone had already had the idea to study down here. Though, it didn’t look like much was being done. Decran tilted his head as he watched the boy leaned back in his chair and let the book drop down onto his face. Shaking his head, Decran moved, quietly, over to where the boy was currently napping and looked down at him. He waited a moment, wondering if he really had fallen asleep or not. His eyes scanned the book covering the boy’s face — math. Decran’s least favorite subject and, surprisingly, the one he’d come down to study.

It wasn’t that he wasn’t good at it. He was. Decran just hated numbers. He’d much rather read or write than deal with solving numerical problems. Curiously, he reached out and poked one of the sleeping boy’s wings. “Ya know...I’m pretty sure you can’t learn through osmosis…”

Decran crossed his arms and arched an eyebrow as the boy plucked the book off of his face. “Mhm, I’m sure. That book just magically ended up there and you weren’t snoring,” Decran said, teasing with the last bit. He hadn’t actually heard the boy snoring. The small grin that had curled up the corners of his lips faded slightly at the boy’s question. Sighing, Decran shook his head and sat down in the chair next to him. “It means that the knowledge in that book isn’t going to magically seep out and enter into your brain.” He snorted and sat his pack on the table in front of him and dragged out his math book.

“The name’s Decran, by the way.”

“You can learn through osmosis. Just not the way I said. You have to listen and actually study.” Decran’s eyebrow raised as his gaze flicked to the boy’s — Zephyr — book. As if to say ‘not what you were just doing’. “Mmm...would seem so, hm?” Decran said in response to Zephyr’s question. He opened up his math book and pointed to the page. “Seems we both had the same idea to study math in the common rooms.” He lifted his hand, palm up and shrugged as he glanced back over to the fallen boy. “Why’d you come out here, though. If you were gonna sleep anyway, why not just stay in your dorm?” The corner of his lip edged up into a small, teasing smirk again.

Decran couldn’t help but let a snort mixed into a laugh slip out at the description of Zephyr’s roommate. “Sounds rough.” He eyed the boy before turning back to his book and flipping through the pages. “Makes me glad my only roommates are a fennekit and a spectrefox.” He sighed and leaned back in his chair, the want to study already having faded away. He really didn’t want to study and he didn’t blame Zephyr either. He shrugged and eyed the boy. “We can, if you want. I don’t really have any issues understanding it, if I just study some. My problem is that it’s boring. I’d much rather be reading a book or writing one than trying to deal with numbers.”

At the mention of food, Decran’s stomach betrayed him. He rubbed a hand over his face and huffed. So much for getting any studying done. He should have just stayed in his dorm. “They might be,” he said as he dragged his book back off the table and stuffed it into his bag. “Let’s go find out, hm?” Despite Decran’s teasing, and his initial opinion of the boy (after seeing his book on his face), there was something the imp seemed to like. As he waited for Zephyr to gather his things up, he glanced towards the door and wondered if he’d want to meet up to study, for real, in the future.
