Hobbies:
{ Stationary Fanatic } . . .
xxxxxxxIf Cas doesn't have her nose in a journal--one of the many up on her bookshelves, never mind the Midori she constantly carries around--then clearly something's wrong. She's got a large collection of different pens, highlighters, decorative tape, stickers... the list goes on, and she uses her study time to rewrite her notes in the cleanest, and most decorative, ways she can. One of her biggest uses for them all however, are her stories. Crafting worlds, making universe bibles for her creations... trying to keep all the bloodlines and heritages straight as she works through various time periods... She's got to keep it all organized somehow! Her books feel like life-long works at this point, and a few are finally to the point she can actually feel comfortable letting other people read them. Dreams of publication still ring around her head.
{ Whimsy Fantasy } . . .
xxxxxxxOccult and folklore is her life essence. She's made it a bit of a life's work to research her Irish heritage, not to mention an interest in folklore and mythology from across the world. It's largely why she's pursuing Anthropology, and has lead her into a love of many topics: high fantasy, urban fantasy, horror, werewolves, vampires, aliens... Fairies especially. Big time. While not an expert in any part of the fields, she enjoys learning all she can from those with more information, or even just different views than hers on the topic. From academic, to spiritual, to popular media in the form of Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, and American Horror Story... her reasons for being interested in the topics range far and wide, and that's kept her rather open to all manner of reasons to try and seek out some conversation on it all.
{ DIY Collections } . . .
xxxxxxxCas sort of lives on Pinterest among other sites--Instagram and Tumblr are her worst offenses--and when you don't have a lot of disposable income, it's not super easy to do all the shopping, decorating... or really anything she'd like to do. Best solution? DIY as much as she can. She's (somewhat) taught herself how to sew, and has even begun learning how to refurbish somewhat outdated furniture. Nothing fancy, but she gets a kick out of seeing her space brightened up by pieces she's been able to modify. Her style's definitely shabby chic, if only because she can make mistakes and not totally screw up the project in the process. She adores getting tips and new ideas whenever she can, and has begun frequenting a lot of the local thrift shops and artist studios to get ideas and... well, attempt to socialize, anyways.
{ Anthropology } . . .
xxxxxxxHer major is her excuse to take classes on subjects she'd adored for ages: history, prehistory, culture, psychology, law, art (history!), religious studies... the list goes on. She has a tendency to lose all her money buying books and magazines on these subjects, always grabbing free books on her various e-reader apps... Really, if money wasn't a question, she'd live to learn. Which, hey... if she plays her cards right, some people make whole careers out of that!
Virtues:
{ Resourceful } . . .
xxxxxxxIf one route doesn't work, just got to figure out another, hm? That's Cassie's most basic view of the world--well that, and things happen for a reason. Be it figuring out ways to fit last minute adjustments into plans, or making entirely new plans spick and span 60 seconds from midnight, she's got the will and the way to make it happen. Scrounging around for materials to make a DIY project work in her budget is just another obstacle she just needs to wrap her head around and figure out the best solution to. Not to say some of these new solutions aren't preluded by huffs and puffs and plenty of cussing if she's stressed enough, but at the end of it all even Cassie can admit it wasn't all that hard to do once she thought about it.
{ Amiable } . . .
xxxxxxxEvery person she makes eye contact with is quick to get a smile, regardless of if she's met them before or not. Friends often find their meals paid for and objections waved off. She's always got a packet of tissues in her purse or bag--cry around her, and she'll quickly pass some over with many mumbled apologies for being rude for bothering them. For being someone who never used to like being in crowds, Cassie wants to do all she can to make people around her smile. Not that she'll break her back over it, and of course she knows there's just no pleasing some people, but if a compliment on someone's hair or outfit, a laugh about the slow elevator, giving directions to someone who might be lost... if any of those little things could be done to just make someone's day just a drop more positive, where's the harm? The world's not always sunshine and rainbows, but in her mind that just makes it all the more important for people to try and do their own little parts to bring some of that into the overpowering doom and gloom.
{ Studious } . . .
xxxxxxxIf there was anyone who ever lived just to learn, it'd be her. Girl's got a wonder-lust to her unlike anything else. Curiosity is a chief component of her outlook on the world, something that's helped to prompt her to look to Anthropology. The best way to feed that curiosity? Ask questions. Read books. Listen to the stories people tell. And research. Question every fact she ever thought she knew, and if it's not backed up by a few sources... keep on looking. School as an institution isn't very important to her, and she'd be the first to tell someone who was truly unhappy with the atmosphere to seek another avenue for knowledge. It's the act of learning itself, of always being open to new ideas and understanding old concepts might be shaken up pretty bad by new information--that's the important part she always tries to stress when talking to anyone about education. Right before she hides away in the library on campus and tries to buckle back down on her own studies.
Flaws:
{ Clingy } . . .
xxxxxxxSure she's more comfortable now with socializing than she used to be, but when she does click with someone and an acquaintance looks like they might stick around sort of? Cassie clings. She clings a lot. She texts them, IMs them, invites them out to places--her treat!--and while that might not seem like such a bad thing in theory, the girl is always apologizing for bothering them. But the idea of going to a new place without a safety net? Kinda makes it worth it to harass someone she knows into coming out there with her. In her mind, she's bothering people around her--and though she'll laugh it off in person, it's not uncommon for her to try and use favors and treats she knows the other person likes to try and act as apologies in and of themselves for how she sticks around them. Though not the type to become hostile if other friends of theirs are in the picture, Cassie can--and will--become excessively silent and apologetic when she feels her attempts at keeping herself on equal footing in the mixed company fail horribly. No she won't lash out if the person she clings to has their attention diverted, but the gloomy silent treatment isn't much better.
{ Anxiety Overload } . . .
xxxxxxxIt's her weakness. Stress. Not uncommon in the world, but Cassie has a tendency to let her anxieties take control of her thought processes and behavior more than she rationally knows she should. Trips into new areas of the city must be made with company or she's not going. Walking alone at night? Not happening if she can do anything to avoid it--being unable to? Means she's walking with keys between her fingers and tears in her eye the whole way until she's reached safety. Yes, she can still function during such times that are, for her, hair-raising, but it's not uncommon for that ability to function to come crashing down. Aware of this, and of how erratic she can become during her anxiety attacks and "breakdowns," Cassie usually ops for the obvious solution: do all she can to avoid situations she know will push her into such a state. It's not the best coping method, but at this point it's proven to be the most effective.
{ Procrastinator } . . .
xxxxxxxYeah all that anxiety? Usually, Cassie's got herself to blame for it. Why work on a paper due in a week when there's so many shows to watch on Netflix or things to do in the city? Yeah until the night before the paper's due, she's up till the rooster's calling and trying to race through the assignment, blaming stress and freaking out the whole time. Does she learn? Though she keeps it in mind for the next occurrence... rinse and repeat. Much as she spends her time trying to prepare for events and plans, and much as she actually enjoys her time doing that... the girl's a procrastinator, first and foremost. There's always other projects she'd rather be working on instead of the project with an actual deadline. It's always the more important projects and plans she sets to the side, instead of the logical other way around. It's a large portion of her stress in life, yet one that she seems unable--or at least unwilling--to change.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: Warm amber brown.
Hair: Dark brown and wavy to her shoulders, she's dyed the majority a mixture of purple, teal, blue, and green streaks in a way she describes as "galaxy hair." Her brown roots have grown out a bit though, though she rather likes the effect it gives.
Face: Pale Caucasian, she has multiple piercings in both her ears, and a nose ring she usually keeps a tiny butterfly or crystal stud in.
Clothes: Oh so many layers. A huge fan of the dark mori and Strega style, she prefers a brighter wardrobe than most usually depict. She'll tag her outfits under "#witchofwinterandstars," and that's generally the easiest way to describe her attempted aesthetic. Lots of blues, purples, and celestial accessories. Or fairy themed--forest dweller, flower prints, actual fairy images... you name it.
Cas wears a few constant accessories: Swarski crystal studded hoops in the upper most piercing in her ears; a Clahdah ring (heart pointed out!) on her right ring finger; four silver rings linked together she rolls around on her middle finger on her right hand; a simple black strap watch on her right wrist. Additional jewelry is always a must, but those are her constants.
