There weren’t a great many things that a Spec-Ops General could want to talk about with an Infiltration Captain.
That was what Amethyst thought as he powered up to make his way to the Rift where Xenotime’s office was located when it was almost time. The temptation to ask Leucite if he had any idea what this meeting was going to be about was there of course. But he chose not to act on it in the end lest he got his friend into trouble. If he was going to be persecuted by the General for something that he did or did not do, he wouldn’t want Leucite to be there to witness it or try to intervene on his behalf.
It didn’t take him long to reach where he needed to be in the Rift or to locate Xenotime’s office for that matter. Pausing for a brief moment to psyche himself for whatever that was about to come, he took a deep breath, exhaled then lifted his hand to rap on the door to announce his arrival.

The general's office was not one that got very much use. She took a much more hands-on approach to her role in the Negaverse, and that left very little time or demand for paperwork beyond the odd entry into the database. Which was what she was working on now, as Amethyst knocked on her door. Right on time. An important first step in building up a good first impression. Setting her pen down, the woman folded her hands over the paper she'd been writing on, crossed her legs beneath the desk, and smiled. "Come in." The office itself was very modestly decorated. The desk, a Nuvo style lamp casting a small pool of light on the dark lacquered surface. A small bird that looked like it had been carved from bone. The walls were bare, the only thing breaking them up a tall, thin shelve with a few binders and folders tucked between the shelves.

It would be foolhardy and very very stupid if Amethyst thought it wise to arrive late for a meeting that was initiated by a superior officer. He might spend a good part of his time out of uniform on a day to day basis but that didn't mean that he forgot who he was or the organisation that he represented.
He turned the door knob when a female voice called from within and granted him permission to enter. "General Xenotime?" He greeted, stepping into the room proper before shutting the door behind him. Taking a few steps forward, he stopped in the middle of the room, swinging an arm across his chest as he bowed and briefly introduced himself.
"Captain Amethyst. I understand that there's something that you wish to speak with me on?"

It was an almost gentle smile, sweet and harmless, and maybe it would have been reassuring if there was any warmth at all to the silver eyes that turned up to him. There was an attention to detail there, scrutinizing the captain from the toes of his boots to the fall of blonde hair that brushed his shoulders. "Thank you for taking time to indulge my request." So formal. As if she wasn't aware that disobedience would have resulted in some form of punishment. More than likely by her own hands. She could have delegated, but she preferred to do things her own way. Still, punctuality and respect where a nice change from some of the other's she had taken into her charge. Not all, certainly. Some had proven their merit time and time again, but there were some, those that had recently returned to her, that needed special guidance. "It is my understanding that when not preforming your duties to the Negaverse, you work in a hospital. Is that true?" She already knew the answer, having done her own research on the man, but this, too, was a part of the power play.

"It is no trouble at all General." Amethyst shook his head, letting his arm fall back to his side as he lifted his head to look at Xenotime who had a smile on her face. Was this about him being suspected to be an enemy sympathizer as Leucite had cautioned him time and again about? Or something else entirely that Xenotime wanted his expertise with? It was hard to read the Spec-Ops General’s intent really.
"Yes. I'm with the Orthopaedic department at Destiny City General Hospital." He responded without any hesitation or question, knowing that whatever Xenotime had decided to call him in for would be revealed eventually. It wasn’t as if he could leave her office through his own will without being accused of insubordination towards a more senior officer.

Her expression remained unreadably pleasant as he answered her question, to the point where it would be impossible to tell if she was pleased by this information or not. "That is a very specific field." Not unhelpful, but not specifically what she'd been looking for, unless... "Do you have any experience working in the ER?" Agents were hurt almost on a daily bases. Usually those injuries were minor, things that were easy enough to take care of with simple first aid. Other times they were not so simple. Her own injuries, for example, would have required a trip to the emergency room had her captain not known how to handle the situation on his own. It was luck, or chance, that had kept her from needing a doctor's care, or worst. The entire affair had been a sobering experience. One that had brought to light a gap in their operations that they would do well to fill. First, finding out how many, if any, of their agents had any medical training. Then she would take her findings and her proposal to Laurelite.

"Indeed it is." Amethyst had always assumed that his medical training was one of the main factors that drove his recruitment by the Negaverse. Standing before Xenotime now, almost three years since he joined their cause, the number of times that he could recount being called upon to provide his expertise countable with just one hand alone, he was beginning to think that either his fellow officers were infallible or the Negaverse never quite saw the need to provide their wounded with any form of medical cover.
"I do in fact. Part of my training requires me to cover the ER so that we can respond to the trauma cases that come to us in a timely manner." The Captain recounted his past experience, still keeping the conversation strictly to the facts that the General requested of him without going into further details at this point. "Is there something you have in mind that I can help with?"

The general nodded, smile steadily growing the longer he talked. That was all wonderful news. "Excellent. I was hoping you'd say that." Getting to her feet once more, Xenotime walked around the desk so she could face him, leaning back on the polished wood surface. "I'm working on a little project, a clinic for the Negaverse, and once I get my hands on equipment, I'll be needing to find soldiers that can comfortably opperate it. Capable, skilled soldiers with a background in medicine." He could probably see where she was going with this. "That's where you come in."

It was a relief, knowing that he wasn't called into Xenotime's office to answer to anything that he had or hadn't done during the line of duty. Amethyst smiled, feeling somewhat more at ease now that the General had made known what she had summoned him for. "I like how this sounds. Is there anything else that I can help with in the meantime?"
As far as the Captain was concerned based on what he knew of how the Negaverse operated, the organisation lacked not the infrastructure or resources for projects such as the one that Xenotime spoke of. What they probably could work better on, was knowing who else among their ranks had a background in medicine or first aid and making sure that they were contactable should anyone need to tap on their expertise.
But first things first. "Also, may I ask where this clinic will be located and how is it meant to complement the infirmary that we currently have in the Rift?"

She considered the offer, the tips of her fingers drumming softly against the edge of her desk, nails clacking rhythmic. "Yes, actually." The smile she wore broadened. "As you're aware, running an ER takes many sets of hands, and not just one. You work in the hospital, you know your colleagues. Who works well under pressure, who doesn't. Who lets guilt eat them alive, who is strong." Her head tilted gently to one side, purple hair falling along her throat. "I want you to help me find suitable candidates for corruption." As to his second question, the answer was simpler. "It will be tucked away in the basement of the apartment complex I run. It's purpose is to provide a location outside of the rift for immediate medical care. The more resources, the better prepared we are should anything happen here or there." If only she knew. "Do you have any other questions?"

“I see.” At Xenotime's proposal as to how Amethyst could help with realising the clinic she had in mind, the blond Captain looked thoughtful for a moment, his gaze lifting to meets hers as he began to speak of a candidate that instantly came to mind.
“I’ve got a cousin. He's two years younger and started his Psychiatry residency recently. That could be useful." Pausing for a few seconds to let the General process what he said, he went on. "Alternatively, I'm sure we can convince him to consider transferring to a specialty that would better serve our needs."
James was smart. He had good grades, almost made it to the Dean's list every year and even went on to secure a place in the highly competitive Psychiatry residency program. With Xenotime's approval, they could start with him first then work their way from there.
"Just to be sure that I'm reading your intentions right, we're looking at a clinic that'll serve our own exclusively, with the capability of performing minor and maybe some major procedures to at least stabilise our patients till we can get them to a better equipped facility such as the infirmary in the rift. Right?"

There was something to be said for someone that willing to offer up a member of their own family to chaos. Not everyone was as loyal as the purple haired general, she knew that all too well. Those that were were worth keeping close, and keeping safe. Amethyst wasn't a fighter, or at lest didn't appear to be(and she was seldom wrong on that account. Occupational habit.), but he had a valuable skill set, and a willingness to serve that Xenotime found appealing. "I should like to meet this cousin of your's, at your earliest convenience." Her goals were important, and she was eager to get plans underway, but the fighter could also be patient. The captain seemed eager to work with her, she wanted to keep it that way. "And yes, you're reading my intentions correctly." The more choices their agents had when seeking medical aid, the better.

James would make a wonderful asset to the Negaverse. Amethyst was pretty certain about that. He wouldn't have mentioned his cousin to Xenotime if he didn't think him suitable to begin with. "Excellent. I'll get in touch with him and set up a meeting for us then. Would you be able to advise if there's any specific day, time and venue that you'll prefer this to be at, General?"
Organising a meet up was the easy part. Ultimately he acknowledged that it was still Xenotime's decision to make as to whether James was suited to join their cause. After all, the Negaverse didn't need any more officers who weren't a combatant. Like himself.

"Somewhere that can offer a bit of privacy, should we need it, for anything we might want to talk about. The day doesn't matter, nor the time. My schedule is usually more flexible than a normal job might allow." She considered this, wondering if there was something else that needed to be said here, or if they'd covered everything already. "I accept it might take a little time, though try not to make me wait too long." Xenotime considered maintaining a life outside of the Negavere to be important. Not more important than Metallia or their cause, but important enough to be a priority. She'd give Amethyst time to arrange things before pushing him on it again. "If you have no further questions then you are free to go." It wouldn't be hard for him to get a hold of her again, when he needed her.

Somewhere that can offer a bit of privacy. Amethyst would have to keep an eye out for such a venue the next time he drove around the city or went on patrol. The lack of restriction on the time and day that Xenotime was available to meet up was greatly appreciated on his part. All that was left was for him to check with James for a common date when the both of them were free before he could get back to Xenotime.
"I understand. Rest assured that I will not keep you waiting any longer than necessary General. Until then..." A hand was lifted to salute the General and then the Captain took his leave.
