Neptune had finally come out of his self-imposed isolation. The visit from Kirket had helped his mental state tremendously. He was still a little nervous walking around campus, loud sounds from freshlings playing or people moving around still made his anxiety spike, but it was doable! Completely doable.
So why was he stuck outside of the art hall, too terrified to step inside? Going to the cafeteria had been hard enough, but this place was also associated with bad memories. Ugh... Just reach out and open the door, Neptune. No matter how many times he told himself to do it, he just couldn't get his arms to work! A small, slightly distressed whine made it's way out of him as he opted to pace a little instead. Maybe he just needed to work up the courage to go inside...
DaisyMilk hfff i'm sorry it took me so long to get this started! ; u ;

With a small sigh, Zahneel had shifted her shoulder to try and stop her bookbag from sliding off as she hurried to the art hall. Things seemed so quietly since Kestral and his companions had left.
Not that she missed the upheaval that their arrival had plunged the school into! But, well. If she was completely honest with herself, she'd admit that she missed the thrill of new ideas and customs to talk about.
She might have lost herself in her thoughts had it not been for the sight of a person that she recognized very well. Approaching carefully, remembering at the last moment that he was blind on one side, she smiled and called out in a soft, carrying voice.
"Would you like some help with anything?"

You can do it...! It's just a building. They aren't even here anymore..! Miss Ava sent them away... Neptune circled around in front of the building, trying to psych himself up -- though he stopped when he heard a voice near by. Oh Nine. He looked like a fool, didn't he?! Just pacing in circles-- oh nooo--
He turned to see who it was, ears perked towards the strange-- oh, not a stranger! He wasn't sure if that made things any better or worse- he hadn't really spoken to... oh no, he couldn't remember her name... Did he ever know it?? Either way he'd thought that she was very cool - he admired the way she spoke when The Incident was going on-- oh boy.
"O-oh...! Um -- I... w-well..." He fidgeted, eyes glancing towards the art building doors, then back to Zahneel. "I uh-- w-was just...... th--thinking about whether I waned to go inside... or not....... um. I'm so--sorry if I was in the way??"

Rememberign his timidity during the mess with the nixie, Zahneel kept her voice low and soothing and almost wished that her arms weren't full or she would have given Neptune a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
"Oh no! You're not in the way at all. I just thought you looked like you needed some help. Or maybe just a friendly ear."
Grinning a little lop-sidedly, she winked at him and moved just enough to be out of the way, but still within sight. Then, glancing over at the doors, her nose wrinkled slightly in distaste. Not necessarily due to the memory of the nixie themselves, but more for the lingering upset their visit had left behind.
"It should be interesting when Headmistress gets one of the nixie they promised as a teacher, don't you think? I still can't believe all the work they've put in on the school and how quickly they did the renovations. I hope it's a young teacher."

It took a moment, but he realized she was making efforts not to overwhelm him too much, which he was very thankful for. Loud sounds still set him off very easily, he'd had to leave a few classrooms already this week due to it! "O-oh, good... Um... " He looked back to the door, and chewed at his lip nervously, tail instinctively curling between his legs. "I-- I just... um...... It's hard- you know-- to uh... go back in there...." He nodded a bit. Kirket had advised that he open up a little more, maybe if he divulged that small-- terribly small -- bit of information he'd feel better about it?
Not really, not yet anyway, but it was a start... "O-oh... We... We're getting one...?" His ears flattened a little, though he consciously tried to perk them up again. "I--... I hope so to... uh... n-n-not like.... The scary woman..." He knew her name, he just.... refused to use it.

Nodding a little ruefully, Zahneel noted the flattened ears and tucked tail, though she politely ignored them for the sake of trying to help Neptune feel more comfortable.
"I can't really see the Headmistress being less than thorough when it comes to screening potential teachers, can you?" she asked confidentially. "Depend on it, she's going to put those folk through the wringer to make sure they fit here."
Shifting her books a little, Zahneel sighed softly and glared at the doors. Neptune had been honest with her, he deserved the same treatment back!
"I'll be honest, I don't really like going in there much, myself. I suppose that the feeling'll wear off the more time passes. But I swear I can still smell her," the young grimm complained. "And it makes me mad. Even knowing that her memory was screwed up doesn't help make me any less mad at her for the things she said and did."
She felt a little better for having confessed, though there was a tinge of shame. She knew that that female had been suffering from memory loss at the time. It was pointless to be angry at her. But there it was. Emotion didn't always align with logic.nepsah I am determined to be less of a scatterbrain! >:[

He nodded, Miss Ava certainly wouldn't let anyone bad into the school if she had any say in it. And it sounded like she hadn't had much say at all when the Nixie first arrived, so of course she couldn't screen them... and the Scary Woman had just barged in anyway. But he'd seen new security guards from his dorm room, which probably meant Miss Ava had taken it upon herself to make sure everyone was even more safe than they'd already been. Just the thought of it made him relax a little.
"M-mmhm.... I don't th--think she'd h-h-hire just an--anyone." He nodded a little, chewing at his lip briefly. Hearing that Zahneel didn't like going into the art room made him feel a little more at ease, enough so to relax his stature slightly. Zahneel was so brave and even she didn't like going in there? Perhaps he didn't have to feel so bad about it, then...
"I--... mmm..." He frowned a bit, thinking. "I don't... th--think that ha--having her memory messed up... sh-should make it okay at all... be--because even though it was me--messed up... it was st--still her who said th-those things and d--did all of that bad stuff..." He shrugged softly. "A-and since she did them... maybe she'd st-still be okay doing it... even if that wasn't wh--who she was before.. I--... mm... I just... feel like excusing h--her actions be--because she was having problems doesn't do anyone a-any good. Even h-her." He nodded, ears flopping slightly. Kirket had said something along those lines to him about his mother when he was finally taken to the Academy.

LEaning carefully against the doorjamb, Zahneel listened closely as Neptune articulated his feelings. Goodness, she was proud of him, she thought. The Neptune she'd first met wouldn't have been willing to talk this much to a near stranger. Or at least, that was how she'd read him. And as she listened, a brilliant smile lit up her face as she nodded enthusiastically.
"Yes! Exactly!" she said eagerly. "Her memory was was part of the reason for her actions, but isn't an excuse for them. You understand."
Still beaming, she juggled her books just enough to allow her to reach out and give Neptune a friendly pat on the arm. Really, it was nice to have someone to talk to about that whole mess who didn't act like she was crazy for being bothered by it.nepsah I am the wooooorst. I should have checked this sooner. Do you want to wrap this in another post or two?

He felt a little reassured by her smile - it just seemed to genuine. Not that he really had any reason to believe Zahneel wouldn't be genuine - he was just... unused to seeing such things. He nodded again, slowly. "M-mmhm. Ho--hopefully now that.. uh, she remembers... she won't be like that... anymore." He shuddered to think what the kids in her life back home would be going through if she were.
He blinked, a little caught off guard by the pat, but for once in his life he did not flinch at the unexpected touch. Instead he managed a small smile, tail swaying in a vague attempt at a wag. "I'm gl--glad that um... you think the same... I haven't r--really, uh... talked... to anyone a-about it. I mean... a-aside from M-Mister Kirket... uh... but that'skindofhisjob." He glanced off to the side toward the end of his statement. Despite knowing that it was fine and even commonplace to be seeing Kirket, he always felt a little... odd, admitting he was regularly seeing the school's counselor. "He d--doesn't think she should... be excused either. But um--... Were you going to uh, do something in here...?" He just realized he might be holding Zahneel back from some project or something. Then again, he'd come to the building to see if there was anything he could do...

"One hopes," Zahneel heard herself muttering, before flashing a crooked grin and adding, "If she doesn't, I may be tempted to go all the way out there just to bite her."
Listening closely, she nodded with obvious approval at the idea of Neptune talking to someone about how he felt. Job or not, if Mr. Kirket was helping out, then she was more than satisfied. And given her own lingering anger, it probably wouldn't be bad for her to seek him out and talk to him herself.
"That's wonderful," she said softly. "And if it's helping you feel less nervous, that's even better. And there is this, it's always nice when a grown up agrees with you."
She re-juggled her books and for a moment, was lost in plans to seek Kirket out. Then, Neptune's question brought her back to earth with a mental bump. Blinking, she stared at him for a moment before laughing a little helplessly.
"Truth, I came over to see if you needed any help and lost track of time. It was worth it to play catch up, though."
Tail wagging slightly, she smiled again at the other grimm sighed softly.
"If it's okay, we could talk more and maybe help each other with our feelings?" she suggested. "But for now, I think I'd better run before I end up late and in trouble."
Giving another friendly nod, she backed up slightly and dashed further into the hall.

He couldn't help but grin a little himself at that-- the mental picture of Zahneel biting that scary woman to prevent her from doing more harm... yes, that was kind of funny. "O-oh, yeah... he d-does help with that." He nodded a bit more, once again averting his gaze. He honestly wasn't sure if it was worth the effort... he couldn't really picture himself not ever being nervous. Or at least, relaxed enough that he didn't stammer so much or jump at sudden movements.
"Oh, I'm uh, gl--glad it was worth it." He felt a little bad he'd distracted her from her task, but if she said it was worth it, he didn't have to feel that guilty did he..? "Uhm.... if, if you want to, I'd b-be okay with that. I'm u--usually free in the a-afternoons." He nodded, then stepped aside to give her some more space to leave. "S-see you later Zahneel. I-it was nice talking t--to you again." He watched her go for a bit, then turned to head towards the free painting area.
