Be brave. But not stupid. Use your smarts to make up for your lack of... everything else.

It was her personal mantra when Conchordia powered up alone. An event that was so infrequent she could count on her fingers the number of times it had happened.

When there were other Chronos knights with her it wasn't quite as bad. Sure she was still scared but it was... bearable. Her sense of responsibility towards the group and the thought that someone was there if things got too terribly bad were comforting to her ever frazzled nerves.

But when she went out alone... Her walk was more of a tiptoed creep, wanting to tuck to the shadows while at the same time worrying what exactly might be hiding in those shadows waiting for her. Her breath just a few notes slower than hyperventilation as she peered out from her hood and veil.

Be calm and smart. She reminded herself. It was something she'd read in every survival guide she'd ever perused. And she had to become better. To pay back everything they'd all given her. To make all the time and effort they'd wasted on her not be in vain.

Even though she really was right now... she needed to at least try not to be such a burden to everyone.

He was not in the mood to socialize.

In fact, Celsus was not in the mood to do anything at all except stay at home, but he couldn't do that - the loft was much too dirty, much too cloying. He couldn't stand to stay constricted within the walls for another second, and since it was late, the only option was to go out powered as opposed to simply taking a walk.

And now here he was, somewhere in the middle of the city, though he couldn't have said where, exactly. Celsus wasn't even quite certain of the time, or how long he'd been patrolling, having not kept track of anything. He'd taken down one or two extremely weakened youmas, hardly even worth his time, but other than that there had been no other signatures to register, for which he was grateful.

No other signatures except now, that was.

There was a faint one growing nearer, and it was weaker than his own, but Order side. Celsus wasn't sure if he was glad or upset by this, instead leaning against the wall of a nearby alleyway with his arms folded across his chest, waiting.

It grew nearer, stronger, but Celsus ignored it, head tipped to the sky.

While Celsus was purposely trying to avoid or ignore the aura he'd detected Conchordia was doing the exact opposite. The moment she'd gotten close enough to feel that wonderful.. flare of power she'd snapped to attention. Like a moth to a flame.

It was sanctuary and comfort - an aura from the order side, especially one as powerful as this, and had she known the person it belonged to that feeling only would have doubled.

Desire to reach and find the other person overshadowed her usual cautious creep and the page walked quickly, almost jogging even, as she tried to find the source. The closer it grew the more her eyes darted around behind their frames in search. If she were a bolder person she might have even tried to call out into the night. But Conchordia was pretty much the antithesis of boldness.

Finally however, after more blocks than she could count she finally thought she saw someone in the distance, and given the lack of any Chaotic aura's around took the chance of approaching. Even though one didn't need to be Chaos really to be bad. There were plenty of scary people in this world that could do terribly horrible things without the need for magic and weapons.

A hand lifted, as if to try and get the attention of the other person (who may or may not have looked slightly familiar) in the distance, figuring the motion would carry far further than her tiny voice.

Neediness train coming your way. Feel free to try and ignore her or run away from her if you like. 8D

It was not as though Celsus did not want to be around people. In fact, there was an ache in the place of his heart, in the region of his chest that seemed unable to go away, unable to be muted. He felt a longing for connecting so badly that it was almost cloying, but he pushed it away, tamped down on it so that all that was left was a dull throb that he could easily disregard as nothing more than stupidity.

It did not matter that the power signature approaching rapidly was Order. It did not matter that it was growing steadily stronger the closer it came, and Celsus closed his eyes against the night sky, hoping that the other would just turn around and walk away, decide that they didn't want to see who it was and go home after all.

But they did not, and soon enough Celsus could see a silhouette just across the way, a hand lifted in greeting. It would be terribly rude to simply turn and leave, or worse yet, ignore - so although he had a desire to do both of these things, he pushed himself away from the wall and stood straighter.

"Over here," he said in a light voice, deliberately casual. "I'm over here."

For a person who did not know that many people, and did not really socialize that much in either aspect of her 'lives', the voice that sounded would be extremely familiar and recognizable. And her voice lifted a decibel or few louder then it's usual quietness in a relieved and pleased response. "Celsus?"

A few more scurried steps confirmed her suspicion, as she drew close enough for the sillouette to become a clear view, and then closer still until her own delighted little smile could be seen even through the veil that covered her lips. Finding someone strong was wonderful, but there were few, if any, in this world she'd be happier to see when powered up then the man before her.

"Hello. How are you?" The words were polite but excited, his presence alone working to at least subtly soothe the anxiety that often nagged her when powered up.

"How lucky of me to run into you." She added genuinely, oblivious to the turmoil in the knight before her, or the fact that her pleasure and relief was possibly not echo'd at all in the familiar figure.

The silhouette was familiar in its appearance as it dew nearer, and the voice that called out his name even more so. Celsus lowered his hand and caught sight of a flash of green, as well as the tell tale uniform of a Chronos knight - Conchordia, her smile visible in the dim light.

As much as he wanted to turn and leave, as much as he felt as though his heart was attempting to claw its way out of his body and shatter across the pavement of Destiny City, he could not walk away. Had it been anyone else, he might have made some excuse, but Conchordia was so terribly, saddeningly sweet, so horribly anxious about her own position within the court that Celsus did not have the heart to simply turn his back on her, however awful he felt.

"Good evening, my dear," he said instead, forcing his lips into a semblance of the smile he usually wore. Her face, obscured by the veil, made it difficult for him to apply his customary greeting of a brief kiss to the cheek, so instead Celsus leaned and took her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. His fingers were icy cold.

"Doing - " Anything at all would be a lie. " - well, darling, pay me no mind." Celsus leaned back against the wall behind him. "What are you doing out here so late?"

There was a comfort, for her, in that touch - even despite the coldness of his fingers. And as her hand slipped back to her side after the greeting she settled in place before him, shifting her weight in a way that seemed to hint towards her making herself comfortable and in no hurry to head anywhere else.

She was so ill equipped in social nuances that she didn't notice at first that his smile was simply a masked replication. Not yet, still too thrilled by her own good luck in finding him. Someone that could actually deal with the monsters should one happen upon her. But it was only a matter of time before she noticed, considering she'd seen the mask before a long time ago, at the surrounding.

"I'm out patrolling." She answered matter of factly, the tiniest hint of pride touching her, even helping to raise her teeny little voice an octave higher. However it didn't last that long, her own mind happy to chip away at the thought that she might be doing a good job. Out patrolling for once, because you do it sooo very often. And even when you do you mess up at it.

"It didn't.. really go so good. Last time I went out by myself...." Indeed, she would have been been blind or dead if not for the intervention of another knight. Her eyes had dropped, looking away from him in her admission of failure, but they returned in a moment of uncharacteristic resolution. "But. I'm out trying again."

And that was what mattered, right....?

He liked Conchordia. Her gentle nature somewhat hindered her at times, but her kindness and her dedication had always been something that encouraged Celsus. Even when they had only known each other as Fritz and Menthe on the Surrounding, he had believed her to be a good woman.

She still was, and he still thought that. But his own thoughts kept twisting and shifting unpleasantly inside of his own head, and any other time he would have been glad to see her. Any other time, he would have been pleased to know that she was doing well.

Right now all he wanted to do was get away from the world.

Celsus forced a smile onto his face that was almost genuine, though the truth of his words left no doubt as to his feelings as he said gently, "I'm glad you're out patrolling on your own, it's good to get a feel for things that way. I was doing the same thing, earlier."

Sort of. Celsus glanced down at Conchordia.

"Trying again is always good," he said, and though he had meant it to be reassuring, it came out sounding stiff, awkward; almost robotic, like he was trying to convince himself of the truth and not so much the other person. Celsus' breath eased out of him in a shudder.

"I'm glad that you are...doing well for yourself," he said.
