Oscar dragged two rather large suitcases behind him and he made his way through the city. Everything felt familiar but time and the need for constant development had meant things were no longer quite how he remembered them. Like that cafe with a name he hadn't heard of before, didn't that used to be a yoga studio?
He steered his luggage over and peered through the window. It was late so it was closed, but stuck to it's window was the outline of reindeer, blinking periodically. Christmas time.
Oscar didn't really care for the holidays, any of them. His parents hadn't done much at all for them whilst he was growing up; a new t-shirt for his birthday, a chocolate egg from his neighbor on Easter, a card and a pair of socks on Christmas. No parties, no fanfare, no sense of family.
He let out a long sigh, the cool November air fogging the glass on the storefront. He'd never expected to be back, at least, not so soon.
From the corner of his eye he thought he noticed a shadow, something, inside the cafe. He looked around the empty room but there was nothing moving inside.
"Probably just the stupid light," he said as he took a step back.
It was late and he needed somewhere to stay, time to find a hotel.
