Summer's blistering heat had finally cooled down into a fall breeze. Everything appeared to be dying. Leaves had turned warm colors of red, yellow and orange. Some of the trees were almost already bare. Blades of grass that were once a luscious green faded to a golden color. Soon, the air would freeze and the land would be covered with delicate, white snow. Grass that was once so plentiful would be hidden under the icy blanket. For those that enjoyed the taste of grass, it would lead to weight loss and possibly even death. For those that enjoyed meat, meals would not be as filling and they would be harder to find. The thought of starvation caused a kalona stallion's maw to distort into a disgusted frown. He was a kalona! A superior breed. He would not die.
Ahriman snorted heatedly at his own thoughts as he snaked his way through the trees of the forest. His black, leathery wings folded to his sides and his spaded tail lashed wildly behind him. As he approached the edge of the forest, the stallion took in a deep breath. Mixed with the scent of the dried blood covering his white and black pelt, he caught various other scents. The scent of a deer stuck out and he looked around slowly with a dark grin curling on his maw.
Before he went on a wild goose chase for the deer, he paused and looked around. Just in the distance he noticed a few tall mountains. The clouds hovered close to the peaks and the sun shoved its way through a few of those clouds, forming bright rays to guide the day walkers as they traversed the land. After scoping out his location, Ahriman began his hunt.
Usually, Ahriman was found stalking the night. Today was different. He couldn't sleep and only grew angry as he tossed and turned. Now, he needed to release some of the pent up anger and the deer would be just the thing he needed. Now... where was that midday snack?

Winter, a time where the sky sprinkles frozen rain upon the blades of grass and lands around. The trees began their cycle of life. Reds, yellows, and oranges decorated their branches and the ground around them. The wind began to feel chilled to the touch. "Be damned this season of death..." Came a low hiss from inside a cave between the mountain peaks. A light chuckle came out as well. A pair of yellow stain fangs glistened in the sun's rays through the entrance of the cave. Slowly a being of red, black, and white scales began to walk out from the darkness. With leathery black out stretched wings, the being took to the air. The red and white head crest of feathers moved with the breeze as it began it's decent towards the base of it's home.
Landing with a soft thud, the eyes of the begin shrank into slits at the smell of blood and deer. A low growl began to sound deep in it's throat. "Smells as if something has entered my lands..." It growled even more, almost as if angered. Letting out a roar the beast began to walk towards the scent.
This creature was something completely different than seen before. Scales covered most of the body and tail. Feathers along the top of their head. Fangs longer than most big felines or purewalkers. But low and behold this creature seemed on the larger side. It was baring children. A female monster.

In an attempt to hone in on the location of the deer, the kalona stallion's muzzle lifted into the air slightly and he took a deep breath. Perhaps if he followed the scent long enough, he would find the herd to which the single deer belonged to. Surely his patience and determination would be rewarded with a fine feast. One fit for a king. He chuckled at the thought.
Focusing on the scents he inhaled, Ahriman noticed something different intertwined with the scent of old blood and deer. He couldn't put his hoof on what it was, but there was another creature wandering the area. Although he feared very little, Ahriman's posture stiffened slightly. It was better to be on one's toes when there was a potential threat. Again, he took another deep breath, focusing on the unfamiliar scent. What was this thing?
A dark grin curled on the stallion's maw as he thought about what he hoped it would be. Perhaps it was the cherry on top of his already succulent meal. When Ahriman thought he heard a voice he carefully headed in the direction of the noise, hoping not to draw attention to himself.
Disappointment quickly took hold of the stallion's features. This was no cherry. In fact, he wasn't exactly sure what this thing was. It had leathery wings like that of a kalona, scales of a kirin, and feathers like those damned harpies. His disappointment morphed into disgust as he tried to understand what this thing was. Finally, Ahriman noticed the enlarged belly on the creature and he quirked a brow. Had this creature eaten all the deer in the herd and simply left this last one by itself? How dark. Perhaps he would engage in conversation after all. "They say it is unwise to eat such a big meal. A stomach that size surely makes it difficult to fight or escape if one should have to." His voice was dark and husky as he spoke.

A low growl resonated deep in her throat as she turned to see what was speaking to her. Her eyes were glowing bright with rage. "And who might you been? " She threatened as she puffed out her chest and spread out her wings. Green liquid began to drip off her fangs, hissing as each drop hit the ground.
"You should of a good reason to be in my territory..."She growled, ready to strike if need be. She hated intruders, but then again she could form an alliance or possible new blood for more spawn to take over the lands. She lowered her wings then chuckled lightly. "What might your name be, oh foolish one?" She hissed coyly with a devious smile.

Ahriman seemed unfazed by the mare's growling, glares, and overall threatening appearance. Very few things in the world created fear in the kalona and this mare was not one of those few things. The kalona stallion stood with his head high as he looked down at the scaly mare that he was still trying to figure out. What was she? He kept a close eye on the mare. If she were kalona she would surely have a fiery temper. When the mare claimed this land as her territory, Ahriman simply chuckled and shrugged his shoulders. "I was not aware I was intruding." The once threatening mare seemed to vanish and a more docile mare appeared, causing the kalona stallion to mentally brace himself. Was this mare insane like his unikalona mother? Her insult aimed at him caused a slight snarl to form on Ahriman's maw. "I am Ahriman. Who are you, oh rotund one?" When he caught a glimpse of her smile, he flashed one back towards her. Perhaps this meeting wouldn't be as hostile as he originally expected.

Fyglia let out a boisterous laugh as Ahriman has questioned who she was. She found it quiet funny, but sad all the same. "Well now we have a real problem. Have you never heard of creatures called wind serpents?" She hissed between her long fangs and he forked tongue showed itself by only for an instant. Her smile grew wider and her eye slits began to shrink. "Foolish, Ahriman. I am one of those creatures. Fyglia, the crimson serpent. Something you don't want to cross the line." She chuckled as her tongue liked her fangs. Nodding to him being unaware of his area to be her home. "I have claimed these mountain lands to be mine and mine alone. Once I have spawn, they will expand my territory and if they disobey or I find them unfit... They shall perish or be exiled." She spoke as her wings moved restlessly along her sides and her tail began to swish. She turned her gaze towards the horizon then back to the stallion. "What brings you to a place like this?" She hiss lightly.

So this mare was not a kalona. How foolish of him to assume she was one. He should have known by the feathers in place of horns and the scent she carried. Ahriman snarled slightly at the thought and felt a look of disgust overcome his features for only a split moment. If the mare weren't paying attention, she would surely miss it. "I doubt these wind serpents are as fearsome as the mighty kalona." Although Ahriman was no kalona purest, he did believe that the kalona was the mightiest of all species that wandered the soquili lands. With a disappointed sigh, Ahriman took a moment to note the mare's features. His pitch black eyes scanned the area once before returning to the mare. He half listened to her going on about her territory and quirked a brow when she mentioned spawn. "Hm... How does one determine if their spawn is unfit?" Many kalona would deem this mare unfit and kill her on the spot, Ahriman did not wish to seep down to the level of a skinwalker and kill everything at first glance. Her question caused the stallion to remember the deer. It was probably long gone at this point. How disappointing. "Thoughts kept me awake, so I took to wandering and this was as far as I got."

Fyglia snorted in distaste, "How would you know that the kalona are stronger than wind serpents? I've never seen them fight against my kin. Though I have tangled with a pelted kalona in my travels." She hissed with a toothy grin. She gave a hearty laugh as she believed he was one of those kalona that believed only purebloods would be the strongest. Her smile melted into a fanged snarl, "Determining ones that are unfit is purely simple. You devise a test to see if they would do good like the unicorns or see if they ended up being a cold blooded killer like the walkers... My spawn mostly lived up to be perfect, except for one." She hissed as her feathers stood up and tail lashed at the thought of Brimstone. "I exiled the unfit after I gave her a reason to fear me..." Fyglia spoke as a growl escaped her throat. She looked back at Ahriman, "Were you, per chance, looking for prey?" She hissed coyly. She could tell that it must of been for food. No one was foolish enough to cross paths with her.
