The mission in the carnival had seemingly been mostly a wash - in a literal sense, with the downpour of rain - although Amphitrite ultimately didn't feel as though she had failed. The looks on the men's faces, at the very least, said that her ploy had been a success in spite of Jet's blunt ultimatum in the beginning. One of them had even come to her defense against the senshi that had pursued her.

Maybe the mission as a whole hadn't christened as many new officers as it could have. But it was okay. It just validated, to her, the praise that Laurelite had bestowed upon her when they'd met that day: words, like her body, her shells, her strength, they were all her weapons, all invaluable tools that had built her from a senshi that had been utterly disposable to an asset in every sense.

So imagine her delight, her surprise, when as Desdemona she happened to make the choice to treat herself to a rare cup of coffee at some popular little bar by the college, intending to do some of the work for her GED while she was there, when she saw him - one of the two men from the carnival, sitting right there. Alone, too.

A smile etched itself across the girl's face. Her bag tucked neatly over her arm, she made a beeline towards him, flats clicking lightly on the cool floor. "Excuse me, darling, but is this seat taken?"

Waking up to find himself bound and tied, apparently caught in the middle of some magical war, would not, unfortunately, excuse Axton from the test he had been studying for the evening he'd been taken. What it had done was set him behind. It meant longer hours in the library, and taking what opportunities he had throughout the day to catch up. Like today, bent over a bowl of tomato soup and half a grilled cheese sandwich, book open on the table beside his plate.

Lost in thought, it meant not paying attention to things around him. It meant not expecting anyone to wander up to him. It meant when someone did he blinked up at them rather owlishly for a moment while his mind caught up enough to react appropriately.

"Oh." Pretty girl asking to sit with him. Ax glanced at the empty tars around them, then back up at her, smiling at last as he gave the chair across from him a nudge with his foot. "It is now that you're here." Smooth, but he was just the right combination of laid back, awkward, and easy confidence to make the cheesy line work for him.

Even if it hadn't worked for him - and it did, aided by that endearingly owlish blinking - Desdemona still would have laughed in her musical way, a smile lighting her face. "Thanks, handsome," she murmured sweetly as she settled into the seat across from him and set her small coffee down on the table, brushing her hair behind her ear before setting her bag down on the ground beside her.

When she rose again, Desdemona flashed him a curious glance, propping her elbows up on the table, her chin atop her hands. "So, what are you reading? Anything good?" As if remembering herself (although she'd never forgotten), she gave another soft peal of laughter. "Sorry. I'm Desdemona, by the way - feel free to go with something shorter - " A name chosen for significant reasons, of course, but it was definitely a mouthful. "And you?"

He chuckled, shaking his head as he flashed the textbook cover at her. "No, unfortunately. Caching up on studying. I've got a big test in a few days." He'd watched the pass of her hand threw pale hair as she'd brushed it behind her ear. Bright eyes, smiling lips, she was quite pretty. That she'd chosen to take a seat at his table was a bit of an ego stroke. Not that he really needed it. Axton was lost somewhere between easy conference and that sort of self-deprecation that was almost close enough to pass for it. Carefree.

"So if I called you Des, that'd be fine then?" Not because her name was a mouthful. It was, but that was beside the point. A shortened name could go a long way towards building the bonds of familiarity, and Ax certainly didn't mind the idea of getting familiar with her.

He reached across the table to offer his had. "I'm Axton, but you can call me whatever you want." Not self labeled. He'd just had overly creative patents. Thankfully they'd mellowed a bit by the time Victir had been born.

Desdemona was all-too aware of his eyes on her, and she felt a familiar little prickle of satisfaction. Yes, look at her. Notice her. "Oh, really? A test?" She arched forward, spine curving as she rocked on her elbows, and her knee just barely touched his as she stole a closer look at the cover.

It was only logical to assume from the place and the book itself that he was a university student, so unless she happened to be dead wrong, "What's your major?" seemed like the next logical question, peppered with a sweet smile as she sank more comfortably against the back of her seat again. "Catching up - what. Cute girlfriend demanding all your attention, handsome?" she teased, winking playfully at him.

"Des is fine," she reassured him smoothly, and her smile bordered on coy as she reached out to take his hand. Her grip was, perhaps, stronger than he might have expected - but then, Desdemona was made up of a lot of lean, sleek muscle beneath her low cut tops and tight jeans. "Ax, then - it's a pleasure meet you, Ax."

Now that just really wasn't fair at all. Pale eyes followed the curve of her back before he was dragging his attention back to her face as she asked about the test. "Um." He felt a brush against his knee beneath the table. It could have been an accident, but the way she was leaning close, the look in those pretty eyes, all of it spoke to some pretty deliberate flirting. So he smiled as he gave a soft hum in the affirmative.the fingers of his left hand sliding between the pages of the text book to flip them back and forth lazily.

"Leisure studies," he answered easily, holding back on an automatic explanation of the major to see if she was interested enough to ask. There was a chance she already knew what a leisure major entailed, but that seemed unlikely. He hadn't met anyone yet that did.

Mention of a possible girlfriend made him laugh, and he glanced away, right hand coming up to rub at the back of his neck before dropping back to the table. "No, no girlfriend. I was uh..." A small pause, gaze diverted. "A little tied up." Not a lie, but it skirted the truth pretty widely. Made light of something that could have been a lot worst for him.

Desdemona didn't openly follow the trail of his eyes, but remained aware of them and where they traveled. Subtly, the corners of her lips curled a little higher, more than satisfied that he was paying attention, that his gaze was going where she wanted it to.

She tilted her head just slightly, bangs falling across her face as an inquisitive look settled in. "Leisure studies? - and just what sort of leisure are you studying, darling?" Desdemona's brows quirked in a way that was mildly suggestive, and soft peal of laughter escaping her. "No, but really - what is that like? I've never heard of it before."

As for 'tied up' though - yes, she knew in her own mind full well what he meant. It made his whole little sheepish show rather endearing, though less in the way of overt fondness and more in the way of a kitten wearing a small hat or something along those lines. "Tied up," she echoed, and it was too easy this time to play into innuendo, Desdemona lifting her cup, cradling it between her hands, and smirking playfully at him, "Was it the fun kind, at least?"

He grinned at the subtle innuendo, though gave a small shake of his head. Not the first time he'd heard that joke, and certainly not the last. It never bothered him. "It's, well. Tourism, event planning, festivals. That sort of thing. It's a pretty broad major.

More innuendo, but this time Axton looked down again, lips drawing back in a small smile. "Unfortunately, no. Not the fun kind of tied up." He debated just telling her, but he'd rather the conversation not shift from the casual direction it was headed now, and into something that serious.Granted, the idea of gaining a little sympathy from the lovely young woman made it a tempting thing, but there was also a chance of that backfiring completely. It was better to not mention it, at least for now. "It doesn't matter, though. I'll be all caught up by the time the test rolls around. Just had to give up a little more free time than I would have liked.

"Besides, if I hadn't needed to catch up, I would have missed out on a lunch date with a pretty girl in a coffee shop." Sly. Axton side eyed her as he brought his drink up t his lips, a small smirk playing on his lips.

Well now. That's not exactly what she'd expected, although Desdemona couldn't say it wasn't a bit intriguing. "Is that so?" she asked, blinking once or twice. She reached for her coffee and took a sip, licking her lips once she had set it down on the table again. "Do you study a bit of all that, or do you have an area of expertise that you study? - and whose leisure do I have to study for a trip to Hawaii or something?" she teased, winking playfully at him.

In the back of her head, she mused how such a major could be useful to the Negaverse. Surely someone who majored in event planning could be a boon to them. Worth pursuing.

She looked appropriately concerned when he specified a little, even though Desdemona was already fully aware of just what had tied him up. "I'm sorry - forget tests, darling, are you alright?" she asked with another little cant of her head, lips pursed in a way she knew to be endearing to most people.

Although the last bit made her smile, her teeth flashing in the dim artificial light of the cafe. "Look at you, Prince Charming. - speaking of - " She tugged a pen out of her bag and reached out. "I don't want to interfere with your studies too long. But maybe you'd like my number? For when you're all caught up."

He caught that flick of tongue against her lips, pale eyes lingering there for just a second before sliding back up again at her question. "Oh, I'm studying a bit of all of it. Trying to figure out what I enjoy most, so I can narrow down my studies in my senior year." That was the plan, in any case, but if it didn't pan out that way, broad studies would allow him to find work in a multitude of areas. Axton flashed her a grin when she mentioned Hawaii. "I'm not sure, but when I find out I'll let you know. I've always wanted to go to Hawaii."

The concern caught him a little off guard, and for a moment or two he just looked at her. Then he smiled softly, shaking his head even as he answered. "I'm alright. Things could have been worse, but they weren't, so no harm done." He kept waiting for some sort of break down. Some larger personal acknowledgement of what had happened, but none had happened thus far, and he was beginning to think they wouldn't. It should have been traumatic, but really, it had all just been very confusing.

His smile brightened as she called him a prince, though he was suitably puzzled as she drew out a pen. At least until she started writing down her number. "Oh. Yes, definitely." Eager, but hopefully not too eager.

As always, Desdemona was fully aware of where his eyes lingered, which was from the start exactly her intention. A small rush of satisfaction swept through her. "That's probably the smartest thing to do - I've heard too many stories about people rushing into something and then they regret it, " she mused, nursing her drink again, nestled securely between her fingers. She chuckled and winked at him. "That so? - so I'll just have to study your leisure real good, won't I? - I'm sorry, " and she giggled then, leaning back in her seat again. "That's bound to get old fast, god; I just can't help myself."

Another thing she enjoyed: taking people by surprise. It was a calculated move that paid off, and she could tell she'd endeared herself to him. "Well I'm glad. - that you're okay, I mean, not that it happened." If only he knew. If only he knew why she was even talking to him in the first place.

Soon. Not yet. It was too soon just yet.

It only took a few moments to scrawl down the numbers along with her name, peppered with a heart just because it made these things seem more personal. Then she handed it over to him with a deliberate brush of fingers and a smile before she began to gather her things together again (leave them wanting for more). "Call me whenever you like... okay handsome?"

Another wink with a soft smile full of promise. "I'll be waiting."

Well, if he'd had any doubt in his mind about whether or not she was flirting with him, they were gone now, with that one suggestive comment. Pale eyes widened just a touch before he grinned back at her, an easy curl of lips that was the usual mix of self-deprecation and confidence. "You can study my leisure anytime." One hand coming up off the table, he waved it in a vaguely dismissive motion. "No need to apologize."

The smile softened some as she expressed relief at his well being. It might have only been polite, but he still appreciated it. "Thank you."

His attention dipped tot he paper in her hand as she scribbled down her digits, lips ticking in a subtly smug way at the little heart before she was handing it over to him, fingertips brushing his in a significant seeming way.

Yes, she was definitely flirting with him. That seemed to be happening a lot lately, and it did wonders for the young man's ego.

"I will, definitely." Axton made a show of slipping the paper into his pocket as she gathered her things, grinning up at her. "Wouldn't dream of keeping you waiting for long." Just had to get a few academic hurdles out of the way first. Would be a real shame to flunk out of college now, in his last year.

She'd laughed softly at the bounce-back to the leisure crack, her eyes bright with amusement.

As for the number, well - "Good. Patience isn't my strong suit, handsome, " she teased, winking at him again. "Talk to you soon, Ax." Playfully, she blew with a kiss and a wave before she turned and walked away, her hips swaying as she went.

Seemed strong. Capable. Relatively useful resources available in the leisure studies, depending. It was something they might be able to use.

He'd make a good, loyal agent, given enough... preparation.
