IM RP Divena Sinnamin studied the plant in front of her. It was different, new. She'd never encountered it before. Now, that could be a wonderful thing. Perhaps those lovely leaves made an excellent tea. However, it could also be a bad thing. That plant could be deceptively pretty but actually deadly. Should she pick it, and risk it? She loved making new teas... playing with new flavors... but she didn't want to make herself sick. Pick it... or leave it.... Pick it... leave it... ah... if only there was someone she could ask! She sighed heavily. She could pick it... maybe... and test a small dose of it later... perhaps? Bardess Ookami He had been wandering, spending some time away from his family. He loved them all. Very very much. But sometimes he just wanted some time away. This was one of those times. He was stretching his legs in a light trot when he spied the mare. He hesitated, almost just ran on past to enjoy the solitude.
But she seemed to have that look in her eye. That one his brother got when he was about to do something stupid. He sighed heavily and trotted over. Everything alright miss.....?" Divena Sinnamin jumped a bit at the sound of the stranger's voice and looked up at him. She blinked and smiled a bit. "Oh, hello... I'm sorry... Is this your... ah..." What, garden? It didn't look like a garden. It looked like a forest. She shook her head. "Sorry... let me start over... Hello, I'm Sinnamin. And you are?" Bardess Ookami He wanted to say apples. He was so tempted to say apples. Or spice. Or sugar. Seriously. With a name like that, the jokes practically wrote themselves. But he kept his tongue in his mouth until he could control it.
"Na'Visya. Navisya Winter. And no, these are not my woods. Divena "Oh... but do you live here abouts?" she asked, keeping her pleasant smile in place. She could practically see the jokes running through his head and appreciated his restraint. Some people didn't have such control over themselves. But, if he lived in these woods, maybe he could tell her about the mystery plant she was eyeing. Bardess Ookami "Ah... I'm sorry no. Not yet, anyway. As of now, I still live with my folks. I'll probably wander off on my own at some point. Some day. But for now, I'm just out for a run and a bit of fresh air. You?" Divena Oh... that was... disappointing. He must have been younger than he looked if he still lived with his parents. She sighed. "No... I live a bit away from here. I wandered a bit further away from home than usual today. Lost track of time, you see. I don't suppose you know this plant, do you?" she asked, hopefully. Maybe he could still recognize it. Or at the very least if it was poisonous or not. Bardess Ookami Not that much younger, really. It's just... some of his father was in him. He tended to stick things out. He looked down at the plant. "It looks like a plant," he said simply, looking back up at her. "Did you want to know if I knew it's name? How many seedlings it had?" Divena "It's name... and if it's poisonous or not," she explained. She nodded at the basket at her hooves that was half full with various other roots and leaves by way of explanation. Of course, he had no way to know what she wanted it all for, and she didn't think to explain that bit. Bardess Ookami "I have no idea one way or the other, really. Mayhaps we should find someone who might." Divena "Do you know of anyone else who might?" she asked, uncertainly. It might be quicker to just pick the plant and test it herself.

IM RP Bardess Ookami "Not particularly." Would his parents know? He tried to recall if they'd ever shown any interest in herbalism. He didn't think so. Divena "I see... well, I thank you for your consideration," she said, with a polite smile. She would simply have to risk it. How did the saying go? No risk, no gain? Or something similar to that. She carefully picked off a few leaves and placed them in her basket. "I'll simply have to test it myself." Bardess Ookami "Test it...." herself? What the ice was that supposed to mean? He walked a little closer to her, scowling at her basket. "What do you mean test it, exactly? Test it how?" Divena She blinked at him, confused. She was going to test it, of course. How could she be clearer than that? She tried to think of a way to simplify it but... it was a pretty simple idea to begin with... "I'm going to try it... taste it?" she tried, seeing if maybe phrasing it differently would help. Bardess Ookami "You think it could be poisonous, and you're going to taste it?" he asked, startled and somewhat horrified. He wanted to drag this fool mare to his parents, have them box her ears or something.
Well, his da. He didn't think his mother would. Divena "Well, I couldn't very well make it into a tea and accidentally poison someone else," she scoffed. "That would be terrible! I'll test just a tiny bit of it on myself, and if I get sick, then I'll know not to make it for anyone else. Simple, really. Bardess Ookami "And if you get dead, you'll never make tea for anyone again!" he exploded. Fool mare! Divena She took a step back, staring at him. "There's no call for raising your voice," she protested, keeping her own tone soft by contract. She knew better than to yell at someone who was yelling at her. If she yelled at him, he'd yell at her again, and then she'd yell at him, and so on and so on. It was better to refuse to let the cycle begin. Bardess Ookami "There is no call for getting yourself killed! Over some stupid plant!" Yes, he was yelling. Divena "Sir, I'm going to have to ask that you lower your voice," Sinnamin said, firmly, still keeping her own tone polite. "I don't care for being yelled at. Especially not by a stranger such as yourself." Bardess Ookami "And I don't care for watching a fool mare getting herself killed for nothing!" Divena "Then don't watch," she said primly. She picked up her basket, and with a small snort, turned and walked away from him. She would not stand there and be yelled at. She simply refused to be abused in such a way. Bardess Ookami He followed after her. How could she be this foolish? How could she care so little about herself? Had she no sense of self preservation. "You're not eating that." Divena "You are not my father, brother, mate or even friend," she said, the words slightly mumbled around the basket in her mouth. "You do not get to tell me what to do. However, for your information, I am NOT going to eat the plant. That would be foolish." Bardess Ookami "You said as much!" he protested. "And I don't care I'm not any of those things, what I am is concerned! You can't just kill yourself for curiosity!" Divena "I don't intend on killing myself," she said, around the handle of the basket. "I intend on trying a little bit of it and seeing if I get sick. This isn't the first time I've tested an unusual plant." Bardess Ookami "That you didn't die before doesn't make it safe or good! You need to take care of yourself!" Divena "I can't hear you when you yell at me," she said, stiffly. She wished he would stop following her. Then again, maybe this was best. The stallion was in clear need of some soothing tea. Bardess Ookami "If you need me to be louder, I can be," he growled at her. "How can you not hear me? I'm telling you you need to take better care of yourself!" Divena "No, you're yelling nonsense to a complete stranger," she corrected. "If you'd lower your voice and talk sense, then perhaps I'd be able to understand you better." Bardess Ookami "It is not nonsense! You're going to get yourself killed! I am talking sense, you're just being stubborn and not listening, and I know stubborn! I'm Jhayk's son!" Divena "You're not talking sense. You're yelling sense. There's a difference."

IM RP Bardess Ookami Therein followed a lot of sputtering and hoof stamping and frustration. He screamed in pure frustration, head up like he was braying to the moon. Divena She rolled her eyes as she kept walking. That was mature. She was certain somewhere in that thick skull of his, yelling even more, after she repeatedly told him to stop, made perfect sense. Maybe he WANTED to drive her away... though why he would be following her while he was trying to get rid of her... Well. Some people simply made no sense at all. Bardess Ookami He stalked after her. "You are the most... you... how... you... you...." he made another frustrated sound. "How in the world do you not understand?!" Divena She set the basket down so she could face him, giving him the full force of her frown. "Why can't you seem to understand? I do not respond to yelling. If you'd like a civil conversation, then I would be happy to oblige. At a reasonable volume. But I won't hear a word you say if you yell at me." Bardess Ookami "And why can't you seem to understand that you are making it just about impossible to speak with you rationally," he snarled. She was so,... so.... so... FRUSTRATING. Divena "I'm not the one yelling. I'm also not the one following the thing that seems to be frustrating me so much." Really, males could be so unreasonable some days, but he seemed exceptionally irritable. Bardess Ookami "Because if I don't, you'll just go off and get yourself killed or something!" he protested. "Someone has to save your tail. Since you seem to have no care of it yourself!" He wasn't screaming any more, but he was raving, and seemed close to chewing the scenery. Divena He was still ranting, but at least he had lowered his volume. She decided to reward that small amount of restraint. "I'm not an idiot, sir. I've done this before. I'm not going to just straight up nibble an unfamiliar plant. First, I'll boil it to water it down. Then I'll test it on another plant that is often sensitive to dangerous toxins... And those are just some of the things I'll do before I actually ingest anything." Bardess Ookami He twitched violently. "And somehow that was safer then just remembering what it looked like, befriending and herbologist, and talking to them whenever you find a new one?" Divena "If I knew a herbalist, then of course I would ask them," she sighed, shaking her head. This stallion clearly didn't think much of her intelligence. Normally, she would have felt rather insulted by that, except she could see how he might mistake her for an idiot. She tried to be patient with him. "However, herbalistare difficult to come by, and they don't often stick around long enough for me to ask them many questions. So, when I'm lacking someone more knowledgeable to ask, I find ways to learn myself." Bardess Ookami "There has to be at least one that would take you as an apprentice or something. What good is it you learning all this herb lore yourself if you die before you can teach it to anyone else? Maybe this is exactly why it's so hard to find anyone!" Divena She stared at him for a moment, startled by that possibility. She had never stopped to consider that herbalists might be rare because they were all self taught. "Well... That's certainly something to think about... but that doesn't change the fact that I still don't know anything about this particular plant." Bardess Ookami "Then why take the risk? Is there some reason you absolutely must know this now?" Divena "Because what if it isn't poisonous? What if it's actually a very rare herb that will make an amazingly fragrant, flavorful tea? Or what if it has medicinal properties that could be accessed via tea? The possibilities are endless... and only some of them could be fatal." Bardess Ookami "But some of them could be fatal and all you know of herb lore could be lost over one plant, all that the others could have done to help, traded for the one that could end you! Think! And you plucked it with your mouth, did you not? What if it were one of those that gets you just from contact, it's now touched you and all your other plants!" Divena "Well, if it were that toxic, then it would have affected the plants around it. It didn't. It was thriving in a patch of mint, which I am actually quite familiar with. If I start to exhibit signs of illness... You're here, are you not? And clearly very concerned for my well being. I'm sure you would be able to assist me."

IM RP Bardess Ookami "Assist you how? I know nothing of herbalore, nor healing! Concern does not equal skill! And poison oak and poison ivy both nest around other plants just fine, I'd still rather not bed down in a brush of it!" Divena "Poison Ivy and oak are not deadly, merely uncomfortable. They also wouldn't contaminate the rest of the plants in my basket... and you'd be there to keep any others from trying to harm me while I recovered. Assuming, of course, you wouldn't try to take advantage of me in such a weakened condition." Bardess Ookami "Take advantage of you to do what?! How is THAT the concern here? How can you care more for knowledge of some plant than you do for your own life?" Divena "It's not knowledge of the plant," she explained, trying to figure out how to phrase it correctly. "It's the possibility of a new kind of tea. I'm not an herbalist, so much as a tea maker." Bardess Ookami "TEA?! You're not even risking your life for medicine, but for TEA?!" Yes, he was back to shouting at her. "Are you cracked in the head? Were you dropped on it as a foal? Did someone trample your basket?" Divena "You're yelling again," she said simply. She picked up her basket again and resumed her leisurely walk. As she did, she took a quiet stock of her condition. She didn't feel any pain in her stomach or muscles, no nausea. Nothing at all to indicate that she might have been harmed by picking the plant. In that regard, at least, she was confident that he was over reacting. Bardess Ookami He stalked after her. "YES I AM! Because you're being unreasonable again!" Divena "I still can't understand you when you yell," she retorted, around the handle of her basket. They weren't far from her little home. She would have to make him some calming tea... maybe he'd understand if he tasted one of her brews. Or maybe she shouldn't lead him back to where she lived... He didn't seem like the sort to leave easily. Bardess Ookami "You very well can! Don't think you can get me to respond to stubbornness! No one is ore stubborn than my father, I know how to deal with stubborn!" Divena Perhaps he was accustomed to stubbornness... She didn't know his father, so she couldn't say. She would see how he handled silence. She decided, then and there, not to respond to him until he calmed down enough to stop yelling at her. She also decided that she would go home. If he returned, she would simply keep giving him tea until he chose to leave her be. Or calm down. Whichever came first. Bardess Ookami He kept stalking after her, Snarling and muttering at her, calling her crazy, stupid, insane, whatever he thought it would take to keep her from making such a bad potential mistake, from taking such a risk for so stupid a thing. Divena She let him continue to insult her intelligence. It was all white noise to her, really. Before long, they came upon her little home, with all the leaves and herbs she had strung up to dry, and the ever burning little fire. She set the basket aside and went to put on a fresh pot to boil. "Do you like tea? Ah... let me rephrase... have you ever tried tea?" Bardess Ookami "You mean this mess that isn't medicine that you think is worth risking your life over? he asked, snappish. "Why would I encourage that?" His tail flicked angerly. Divena "Tea can be medicinal," she informed him, calmly as she started collecting the leaves she would need to make something soothing for him. "It can relax you. It can keep you awake if you wish. It can sooth a fever, ease a sore throat. Tea has many purposes." Bardess Ookami "And apparently it can kill you," he said darkly. Divena "If made with the incorrect ingredients," she agreed. "Or correct, if that is what you want to do. It can weaken you, eventually kill you. But I don't care for those kinds of teas." Bardess Ookami "And if you put an unknown herb in and it turns out to be arsenic you're dead no matter what you do and don't care for." Divena "Perhaps not, but not caring for them means that, though I know how to make them, I don't do so knowingly. I'm not going to poison you now, for example." Though she was somewhat tempted to do so. "Please, make yourself comfortable. I'll brew you a cup."

IM RP Bardess Ookami "You do realize, you don't sound the most trustworthy at the moment, yes?" Divena "I don't?" she frowned a bit, distressed by that. "Whyever not?" She wasn't the one that had been screaming for no real reason. She hadn't followed a complete stranger home while grumbling threateningly. She wasn't even the one ranting and raving about death. How is it that SHE is the untrustworthy one? She considered laying out all those facts and realized that doing so would probably just give him another reason to rant and rave at her, proving her point but also hurting her ears. Bardess Ookami "You're talking about knowing how to brew a poisonous tea, then inviting me to sip one of your brews. Just telling me it isn't poison doesn't make me trust you more, it makes you more terrifying!" Idiot. Don't say the scary mare is scary. Divena "You were the one who brought up poisonous teas in the first place," she reminded him with a roll of her eyes. "I was only responding to what you had said earlier. Just because I know how to do it doesn't mean that I will. And I did say I wouldn't poison you. I'll drink the tea first, if that would put you more at ease. I'm fond of many types of teas, so I don't much mind the flavors of... well... any of them." Bardess Ookami He sputtered at her. "You're willing to test a potentially poisons tea on yourself, how in the world does you drinking the tea first make me feel any safer?! For all I know you'll make it with the unknown herb just to see what will happen!" Divena "I will eventually test the new herb," she admitted. "But I won't do so until I've had a chance to dry it. I certainly won't test it on a complete stranger. I know what goes into my body... I have no idea what kinds of toxins you consume on a regular basis. It could contaminate the effects of the tea. It wouldn't be a good experiment at all. Better to just test it on myself... And all you have to do to ensure that the tea isn't poisoned is to watch me for a few minutes. If I don't get ill, you know it's fine." Bardess Ookami "Unless you already tried an antidote before we met, just in case!" he protested. Stubborn and afraid. That was what they had wrought. "And the whole point is that I don't WANT you to kill yourself, you moronic mare!" Divena "I have no intention of harming myself. Or you. That's the whole point of this conversation. You don't have to drink it if you don't want to, but I'm going to make you a cup of tea regardless. I hope that you won't insult my hospitality by refusing it... but I'll understand if you do." She judged the water hot enough and sprinkled in the mixture that would produce a particularly soothing tea. Bardess Ookami "You have no intention of keeping yourself safe either!" he protested. "You invited some strange and angry stallion into your home! Have you no brains at all!?" Divena "I hardly invited you," she argued. "You followed me home. What was I supposed to do? Stand in the forest and allow you scream at me until you wore yourself out? No, thank you. If I'm going to wait for someone to wear themselves out, I'd rather do so in the comfort of my own home." Bardess Ookami "But now I know where you live? What if I'm a psychopath or a killer or a neat freak or something?!" Um... where did that last bit come from, dude? Divena The psychopath possibility had occurred to her already, and she had chosen to take the risk. She wasn't going to explain that to him, however, since he clearly wasn't going to agree with any of her choices. Besides, something else jumped out at her more. "Neat freak?" she asked, arching a brow curiously. Was that some bizarre kind of threat? Bardess Ookami His mouth worked soundlessly. Finally he muttered darkly. "Hey, you never know.." Divena "No, you don't, I suppose," she agreed, glad that he was speaking more softly for once. "But... you say neat freak like it's some kind of threat. Or more serious than a psychopath. I'm just curious as to why you would think so. Are you a neat freak? Or perhaps you're actually very messy?" Bardess Ookami "I don't know! It just popped out! Okay? Seriously, potential psychopath in your home, potential poison in your tea, and your question the validity of a neat freak?" Divena "You're not a psychopath. If you were, you would have done something by now. We're out in the middle of nowhere, with no witnesses around. No one to see what you do, and no way I could possibly stop you. Yet you keep expressing concern for my safety. You, sir, are a good person... I'm just curious about the idea of a neat freak, is all... I suppose I would be considered one myself. Perhaps that was why you thought of it?" It didn't occur to her that, to an outsider, her home looked like a mess rather than the carefully organized arrangement that it was. Bardess Ookami "If there is even a chance I might be a psychopath, and hadn't noticed that we were alone in the middle of no where, why the glaciers would you point that out to me?! Seriously, how did you survive this long? You have like... zero survival instinct. Zero! None!" Divena "Perhaps I'm a psychopath. Have you considered that?" she asked, tilting her head curiously. "You followed after me like a lost puppy following someone for treats... I could have been leading you into a den of despair." Oh... that alliteration was rather nice. She would have to remember that. "Yet you were too bothered by my apparent lack of self concern to worry about yourself."

IM RP Bardess Ookami "I KNOW I CAN DEFEND MYSELF!" he roared. Divena Well, that was disappointing. They had been having such a lovely chat, too. And now he was yelling again. She wondered if he had some sort of mental problem... Or maybe he was partially deaf? She knew that some soquili that were hard of hearing had a tendency to speak loudly because they couldn't hear themselves. Perhaps that was his problem. She decided to politely inform him of his rise in volume. "You're shouting again." Bardess Ookami "I AM VERY WELL AWARE I'M SHOUTING AGAIN!!!" Divena She winced, her ears going flat against her skull. So, not partially deaf then. That was too bad. She had been hoping that his volume had more to do with his own temperament. He was either a very angry person, or he was mentally unstable. Maybe letting him follow her home had been a bad idea. Regardless, she sighed and returned her attention to her teapot. She was not going to encourage this behavior. She would simply have to ignore him until he calmed down again. Or until she could talk him into drinking a cup of soothing tea. Bardess Ookami "You seriously have no sense...at all... do you? You need a body guard or protector! You need someone to watch after you, since clearly you can't do it yourself!" Divena "I disagree," she murmured, since he seemed to have lowered his voice a little. She would talk to him when he spoke at this volume, but not a octave higher. "I have managed to survive just fine on my own so far. You, however, have lived with your family for your entire life. Or did I misremember what you told me earlier?" Bardess Ookami "That's it, fine. Clearly you need a protector. Fine. Until we find someone else to protect you, I'll protect you," he said. It was better than answering her other question. "So... now you have someone to keep you safe." Divena She blinked at him. Oh dear. That made it sound like she wasn't ever going to get rid of him... At least not until she convinced him that she had someone else to protect her. She shook her head slightly. Maybe she could convince him in another way. "No," she mused. "I don't think I could allow anyone to live with me who didn't like tea. It simply wouldn't work." Bardess Ookami "Fine," he said sounding so reasonable that there had to be a catch. Divena "Fine?" she repeated, eyeing him suspiciously. There had to be a catch. In the few hours she had known this stallion, he had not shown an ounce of reasonable behavior. Bardess Ookami "Fine. You don't have to allow me to live here with you. You can come live with us," he said simply. It would be good to have his father's help watching this insane mare. Divena "Oh, no, I think not," she chuckled. "I don't know your family. I'm certain they're very nice, but I have a home. Right here. This is my home." She spelled it out carefully in case he was too slow to understand that all the carefully placed herbs around her was just random happenstance. Once again, she had to go back to that whole unreasonable aspect of his personality. Any second now, she was certain, he'd start screaming for no apparent reason. Bardess Ookami "Then you have to accept me here," he said primly. Divena "I disagree. I don't have to accept you at all," she argued. "In fact, we don't seem to be getting along at all. I'm unclear as to why you'd like to stay near someone you clearly can't stand. But fine, whatever. Some males simply feel the need to protect. I'm not leaving, and if you wish to stay, you'll have to tolerate my teas." Bardess Ookami "The ones you know for a fact are not inimical, I can accept you drinking and making," he said, nodding. Divena "Oh no," she shook her head. "No, no, no. I will make and drink whatever I please. You are neither my father nor my brother nor my mate. I will not tolerate being told what I can put into my own body. However, I will allow you to choose which teas you would like to drink and which ones you would rather not. That is acceptable." Bardess Ookami "I am here to keep you safe. So I will be vetting anything dangerous before you will be allowed it. Unless you have a father or mate here or mother even, to protect you, you will accept my protection." Divena "Once again, I remind you that I have lived perfectly fine so far without anyone's assistance. I have no father or mother. I live here alone, and I'm quite happy with it that way. I've been making teas for years." She felt as though she had heard all this before. Oh, yes, she had said as much to him already. Bardess Ookami "So because you got lucky so far, you'll always be so? And you're an orphan to boot? All the more reason you need someone to protect you." Divena "Calling me an orphan implies that my parents are dead," she pointed out before taking the teapot off the fire. She carefully poured two cups of tea and nudged one to rest in front of him before blowing lightly on her own. "You may want to give it a few moments to cool. My parents could very well be alive. When I came out of my basket, I was alone. This, I've learned, isn't all that uncommon." Bardess Ookami "Gone is gone. You still need someone to watch over you, since you seem to have no care to protect yourself." Divena "I still disagree about my ability to take care of myself. But let's set that aside for the moment," she sipped her tea. "I don't believe that you can take care of yourself, let alone anyone else. What gives you any sort of authority?" Bardess Ookami "My not being an idiot about my health and safety. That's what gives me the authority! You need help, now you have it." Divena "I've known you for all of three hours. What I've observed so far is that you are a very angry person who clearly can't take care of himself very well. You follow a complete stranger home, showing stalker tendencies if not outright idiocy, and you yell so much that, quite frankly, I'm concerned for your heart. No doubt, you'll give yourself a heart attack with all this frustration and stress you bring on yourself." Really, the more she thought about it, the more she decided that HE needed a guardian more than she did.

IM RP Bardess Ookami "I am not a stalker, nor an idiot, I came to protect you! And my heart is just fine, thank you very much!" It had been three hours? It felt like months. Divena "I have only your word that you aren't a stalker," Sinnamin pointed out. "You could be lying to me right now. Try your tea, sir, before it gets too cold." Some teas were good cold, but this was not one of them. It was the word tea that caught Lian's attention and took her off the path, rather without any warning to her self proclaimed guardian, Kyad. "Tea?" she said, stepping out of the bush. She took in the leaves and the teapot... and the frustrated male... and wondered if perhaps she should have kept going. Bardess Ookami He eyed her, considering how to reply, when the others arrived. Kyad followed Lian, used to trailing after her by this point. He had never thought anyone needed more protection than his idiot brother... until he met Lian. The plan had been from the start to protect her until he could find someone to take over. He'd felt less and less inclined to find someone else to protect her the longer she spent with him. Protecting her and his brother at the same time would be a trick. But he'd find a way to pull it off.
He stopped when he saw the mares with the tea, the other male... He stared at them, then looked at Lian. "Did we just find our doppelgangers?" he teased Lian, recognizing the frustrated look in the other male's eyes.
"Who are they?" he asked, scowling. He wanted to know who they were and how they knew about this tea thing. Divena "More guests," Sinnamin answered Na'visya. She was torn between delighted and apprehensive. On the one hoof, this was turning into a regular tea party! She had only been to a few of those, and she had enjoyed each of them. She had never been so blessed as to be able to host one herself. On the other hoof, these were strangers, and so far today her luck hadn't been terribly good with strangers. Still, until these newcomers proved to be as... uncooperative as Na'visya, she would have to treat them as politely as she could. She smiled at them. "Please, come and make yourselves comfortable. I just brewed a pot, and I'd be happy to share... I have many blends if this one isn't to your tastes." That said, she dug out two more cups and poured each of the strangers one. "I am Sinnamin, and this is Na'visya."Lian ignored Kyad's question in favor of savoring the scent of the tea. Traveling as they do, she didn't get to enjoy it much, so this was a rare treat. She smiled at the mare. "Please pardon the intrusion. We were just passing by when I heard talk of tea... I was hoping to beg a cup, so I'm delighted to accept your offer. My name is Lian, and my companion is Kyad." Bardess Ookami Companion? Kyad arched a brow. Well, however she wanted to say it, he supposed. "Thank you," he said to Sinnamin. "And you don't stop to find out who they are beyond their names? You're too friendly! You're going to get yourself killed!" Na'Visya yelled.
"Oh dear," Kyad murmured. That poor boy needed help. He wasn't sure of he should though. When you were a protector you needed subtly. This boyo looked like Lorimar would, if he tried to protect someone... Divena Sinnamin sighed a bit. He was yelling again. Worse, he was being rude to her guests. She refused to argue with him in front of these potential friends, however. Instead, she smiled at Kyad and Lian. "If you ignore him when he gets like this, he'll eventually calm down. That's what I've been doing, anyway. What brings you to these parts?" "Ah..." Lian glanced between the two. "I'm on my way home... If I may..." she looked at Na'visya, "It would seem that I am the too trusting one. After all, I don't know her either. Or you, for that matter, but I'm drinking tea made by her without questioning what is in it... She seems to be at the advantage." She meant to be reassuring... she didn't stop to think of the complex she'd give her own guardian. Bardess Ookami "Lian," Kyad said tightly. He was going to kill her. He was going to save her, then he was going to kill her. "So I'm supposed to feel that she's safer because you're both idiots? You could be an assassin and an idiot! Or an assassin disguised as an idiot, or maybe he's the assassin! She has no sense! How am I supposed to keep her safe if she has no sense?!" "Keep insulting Lian, and you might never get an answer to that question, boyo." Divena "Kyad," Lian murmured with a resigned sigh. She didn't like it when he threatened others, but she had learned better than to try and stop him. "She's an angeni," Sinnamin pointed out, dryly. "Or do you not know what that means?" She practically raised herself, and even she knew that angeni were known for their kindness. There was no such thing as an evil angeni, which meant there was no such thing as an assassin angeni. Though... the stallion could be... ah, she wouldn't point that out. Bardess Ookami "And if her domain is death, or poison, or assassins?" "I'm not threatening, I'm hoping he'll catch the not so subtle hint that he might have an ally if he stops alienating me long enough to ask for lessons," he said dryly in a stage whisper. "Why I should take lessons in how to protect someone from an assassin?"
"Or I could just kill him," Kyad muttered. Divena "Kyad," Lian chided, gently. "He's trying his best. I'm sure he has a very good reason for his cynicism. This tea is wonderful, by the way," she said to Sinnamin with a small smile. "I'd love to know how you made it. It doesn't taste like your usual chamomile tea... but I can catch hints.""I'm impressed you noticed!" Sinnamin said, pleased. She happily listed off the ingredients to the tea for the angeni. It was always so nice to meet someone who knew their teas. "They're all soothing on their own, but I found when I blended them together, they provided a richer flavor." Bardess Ookami "That's your way of telling me to teach the lad, isn't it?" Kyad asked dryly. "Wh..wh...who says I need to be taught?" he sputtered at them. Divena "I would never tell you what to do. I know better by now. Besides, you're assuming that Miss Sinnamin even wants him to protect her," Lian retorted. She recognized the look of female frustration just as easily as Kyad had recognized the male version of it. "I don't, as a point of fact," Sinnamin felt the need to put in. "He invited himself into my home. I've only just met him, really." Bardess Ookami "Mmmmm, the way you wanted my protection?" Kyad asked, his eyes twinkling mischievously.
"She was about to eat an herb she's never heard of to test to see if it's poisonous! She has no sense! She NEEDS someone to protect her! She just let me follow her home, not knowing if I might be an attacker or killer or something, then she just welcomed the two of you, knowing nothing but your species, and that's racist by the way," he said to Cin. Divena "It's not racist," Sinnamin said with a roll of her eyes. "I would have offered them tea regardless of their race. I was just explaining why Lian was obviously not an assassin.""That... isn't going to help your case, dear," Lian murmured to the orange mare, guessing how Kyad was going to translate that comment. She assumed the blue stallion would do the same. Bardess Ookami "You'll stay where I can see you?" Kyad asked her, his eyes narrowing at Lian. He knew this conversation was better had away from the perked ears of the females. "It's raciest to presume someone would or would not do something or could or could not be something because of their race or species." Ask him if he'd invite a Skinwalker or Kalona to tea. Go on, ask him. He has an answer ready. Divena "It is not racist to point out something that is physically impossible any more than it's sexist to assume that because you're male, you'll never get pregnant," Sinnamin argued. "I'll stay here," Lian assured Kyad.

IM RP Bardess Ookami "You never know!" he protested. Kyad trotted over, put his teeth on the other male's ear, and dragged him off while he sputtered and tried to figure out how to fight his way free without accidentally hurting his self-proclaimed charge. Kyad got him just out of ear shot but close enough that the girls were both still in line of sight. Divena "He'll talk to your boy," Lian assured Sinnamin as she took another sip of the delightful tea. Sinnamin gave a hopeful smile, relieved that she wouldn't have to deal with the loud male for much longer. "He'll talk Na'visya into leaving me be?" she asked, just to be sure she was understanding correctly."Oh, goodness no," Lian shook her head, regretfully. "But he'll teach your boy how to be less obnoxious about it." Sinnamin stared at the other mare for a moment, stunned by the assumption that Kyad would just... train her unwanted shadow. "But... why?" she asked, exasperated. "He doesn't even like me." That much even a blind mare could see. Sinnamin was not blind. Furthermore, she didn't much care for him either. It was a recipe for disaster. Bardess Ookami "Rule number one of protecting a mare, you moron, is subtlety. You don't scream at her, you don't call her an idiot, you work behind the scenes to fix things, or make sure that things that could hurt her quietly disappear." "....what are you talking about?!"
"Okay, so you mentioned some plant she doesn't know, that might make her ill or worse? If she's the type to do that sort of thing, start wearing leg wraps. Make them subtly vanish. When you find someone you can trust who might know what it is, wait until she is distracted, then ask. If it's inimical, you can tell her that with authority next time she encounters it. If it's safe, subtly slip it back into her collection." ".... you can't be serious." "Learn all you can about the things she is passionate about, until you know more about it than she does. Then not only are you more aware of what could be dangerous and what is safe, but then you have something to talk to her about." "I want to keep her safe, I never said I was courting her or anything!" he protested. "Why would I care about talking to her?" "Because it is really hard to protect someone when you spend all your energy trying to keep track of her, or fighting with her to be allowed to stay near her. If you can talk about something she is interested in, she'll want to keep you around." "I.. have to make her like me?" he asked, stunned. "That... isn't going to happen!"
"It isn't necessary to keeping her safe, but it makes the job so much easier. Trust me on that one. Become the person she can rely on, and even f you get separated, you'll be the one she calls to when she needs help." "....She hates me...." "Sounds like you have some work to do then. I'll help. So will Lian." "She will?" he asked, stunned. "Why?" "Because I wont ask," Kyad said simply. "By now, she likes me and understands me enough that we can pick up each other's cues. It can make a huge difference in protecting someone." Divena "Males like that are... predictable," Lian told Sinnamin, sagely. "For example, Kyad is telling your boy, right this second, that he needs to try to manipulate you. He's probably guiding Na'visya on how to quietly slip your herbs away from you if he thinks they're dangerous. He'll convince your boy that you won't even notice they're missing. He wants to protect you. It's an instinct, I think... Speaking of herbs, what's this about an unknown plant?""Oh... yes, that," Sinnamin murmured, trying to process the rest of what Lian was telling her. She shook her head slightly and pulled the basket closer to her. "I do have ways of testing unfamiliar herbs before I ingest them. I tried to explain that to Na'visya but he didn't seem inclined to listen to me. It was rather annoying, actually." "It usually is," Lian nodded a bit. "But arguing with him will only serve to give you a headache. If you can get someone else to pretend to be willing to protect you, then he'll leave, satisfied that he's done his job well.""I don't suppose I can burrow your Kyad for that, can I?" Sinnamin asked, only half joking.Lian chuckled. "I would, if I could. But he's rather set on helping me get home to my uncle. Besides, if I lent him to you, he wouldn't just leave once Na'visya left. He'd stay to make sure you had what he considered proper protection.""I see... Well, I don't suppose you could tell me if you recognize this herb?" she asked. She took the plant in question out and set it down so that Lian could get a good look at it. She wasn't really looking forward to arguing over the plant again. Lian studied the herb and smiled, pleased that she could help with this one thing at least. "I do, actually. I don't know the technical term for it, but it's a weed that grows near a particular type of moss. I can tell you that the moss has some very potent medicinal qualities, and this plant is most certainly not poisonous." "That's wonderful to hear!" Sinnamin said, smiling brightly. "I'm rather relieved, actually. Do you know much of plants, then?" Maybe she'd found a decent herbalist to teach her. That would be nice, and a feather in her cap to help her convince that blue numb skull to leave. Bardess Ookami "Pick up on...." he muttered, staring at him. This... made no sense, and he told Kyad as much. "She thinks I'm predictable, possibly. I try to be so when protecting someone at first, then slowly, subtly, allow myself to be more and more myself. That way by the time I'm no longer thinking about how to act around her, I've changed some to actually know and maybe even like what she is interested in. and she's learned by then who I am, and how to read me. We can work as though we were able to read each other's mind." "I don't think that's possible," he said. Kyad chuckled. "Try it. This mare loves tea. Learn about tea. Then you can learn what herbs she might find that are dangerous. find her expert teachers and pay attention, so you can discuss the lessons with her. Try it. It has to be easier than yelling at her."
"It seems like it would be the other way round."
"IT seems that way. And yet...." Divena "I know a little," Lian admitted. "Mostly about medical herbs. Before I met Kyad I was on my own and... well... a little accident prone. I'd be happy to stay and teach you what I know, though." No doubt, Kyad would want to stick around and teach Na'visya some more. "That would be greatly appreciated!" Sinnamin said, brightly. "Oh, but you said you were on your way home..." "It's fine," Lian assured her. "My uncle isn't exactly expecting me. And besides, I have learned to pick my battles with Kyad. You will learn your boy." Bardess Ookami "For now," Kyad said, "let's go back to the girls. Listen. Observe. Learn. Stay quiet and watch Lian and I. Watch how we work together. I'll answer questions as long as we're here, but until you learn to control your tongue and temper, it's better if you ask those questions where the girls cannot hear." "Why should I listen to you?" "Because the mare I protect does, rather than arguing wit me as your mare does you. Come along, boyo." Kyad led the way back to the girls. Divena "Oh, they're coming back," Lian noted. "Let's see if Kyad managed to get through to him..." "I'm still not clear on why they feel the need to protect complete strangers," Sinnamin murmured. Bardess Ookami "Because we are drawn to radiant spirits and wish to devote our lives to ensuring that wonderful Soqs survive to do wonderful things. Those who cannot improve the world with their own abilities should protect those who can," Kyad said simply. Nav wondered how in the world Kyad didn't gag, saying fool things like that. Divena Sinnamin blinked at him, startled, before she looked at Lian, curiously. "Does he actually mean that?" It sounded like a line of some sort. Or like he was trying to flirt with her, but somehow she didn't get that impression. "He does," Lian confirmed. "It's part of his charm, irritating as it can be some days." Bardess Ookami "See," he said to his protégé, "she says I have charm. Be yourself, so long as yourself is someone worth being." He gave Kyad a dark look. "I do actually mean that. I can't bring wonderful things into this world but people like my lady Lian here and my brother... they can. They make the world better, just by existing. How could I not want to protect and nurture that?" Divena Lian traded a significant look with Sinnamin. The orange mare frowned a bit and refilled the empty cups of tea. "How do you tell the difference? I have never contributed much to the world other than some new flavors of tea." Bardess Ookami "How can you tell the difference between herbs?" he asked, with a smile. "A mix of instinct and practice." Divena Sinnamin was about to argue that she recognized diffrent plants by sight because they looked diffrent. After a bit of thought, however, she realized that he was right. It had taken her time to learn the subtle diffrences. She gave a small nod to Kyad to acknowledge she understood the distinction. Lian smiled a bit at Na'visya. "Sinnamin tells me that you two just met. Does that mean that you live in these parts?" Bardess Ookami "My folks do," he said with a shrug. "And my sisters. That was entirely too many females, so I decided to see what else was out in the world." "Admirable," Kyad said, meaning the calm tone as much as the content of what was said. Divena Sinnamin eyed the blue stallion skeptically. She was certain he had said he still lived with his family, and that none of them lived hereabouts. Was he lying now? Or had he been lying before? Or maybe he didn't live in the area where they had met, but lived near were they were now. That was a disconcerting thought... That they might well be neighbors... Lian nodded a bit. "It's always good for young ones to travel a bit, i think. I was about your age when i left home to see the world, also. It's been an experience." Not always a good one, but there had been good moments. Bardess Ookami More like "in these parts" is subjective, and he wasn't really thinking about it, from when he had said it before. Context was too fluid a thing, unless it was spelled out directly, for him. "Do your parents miss you?" he asked. He was worried how his mother would take it if he was gone too long. He had a feeling his father would just sit tight, waiting, sure that he would come home eventually. Divena "My uncle does, I'm sure," Lian said with a fond smile. "Not that he would ever admit it. Uncle Pachu'a isn't one for many words. But he worries in his own way. He didn't want me to go, but he understood why i had to. I'm actually heading home now to visit him."

IM RP Bardess Ookami "Will he feel more comfortable with you being out and about now that you have a protector?" he asked, nodding to Kyad. He was going to have to talk to the lad more about subtly. Divena "That... I do not know. Maybe. He's very protective. He may not like the idea of someone he doesn't know traveling with me. It isn't really an issue, though. Kyad is only escorting me home. After that, he'll be on his way to... Wherever he was headed before he graciously agreed" declared "he would protect me." Bardess Ookami "You're going to stop protecting her when she gets home?" He asked, wide eyed.
Kyad walked over, and calmly grabbed the youngling's ear in his teeth again, dragging him off once more. Divena Lian stared after them, startled. "I... think I should be worried..." Sinnamin rolled her eyes a bit. "I'm pretty sure that means that Kyad has no intention of actually abandoning you, but he's not pleased with Na'visya for pointing that out." At least, that was how Sinnamin had translated the reaction. She glanced at the angeni to see how Lian handled that knowledge. Bardess Ookami That was exactly it, take a cookie, sinnamin! "when protecting a lady, if she chooses to convince herself that the protection is temporary, you let her think that way as long as possible." "But... why?" he asked, confused. "Because if she thinks it is temporary, that makes her more likely to agree to it, and that gives you all that time to show her that having you around is a good thing, lets her get used to you and your presence. Then she can agree to just one more journey and just one more, until she'd actually miss you if you left. Sometime long after that, she'll actually want you around." This was all based off of his brother, mind. "I.. don't think I get it," he admitted. "Watch and learn then, and keep your mouth closed." "So you're staying with her after you meet her uncle?" That depends on him, and her, really." Kyad said. "If he will protect her, and he can protect her and she'll stay with her... then... then I guess she wont need me any more. But if she strays again, then yeah, I'll be sticking with her." Divena Lian frowned a bit. "If that's true, then I most definitely should be worried," she muttered. She shook her head slightly. "It's fine. I'm sure he'll find something else to catch his interest once he's seen me home.""I'm sure," Sinnamin agreed, mildly. She didn't really believe that for a second, but she also wasn't going to argue the point. Maybe she was wrong. After all, the angeni mare seemed to be more traveled than she was. Surely that meant that Lian had more knowledge of people in general and her companion in particular. Or she was really good at deluding herself. Bardess Ookami He saw her frown. "Time to head back. Remember, you learn more by listening, not by shouting." He headed back towards the girls.
He followed frowning. At this rate he wasn't going to have an ear left. How would he listen then? Divena Sinnamin smiled at them when they returned. "I'm afraid your tea has gotten cold. If you'd like, I can brew you up another pot. Would you prefer the same blend, or something different? I have all sorts of flavors..." Bardess Ookami "Whatever you would like to brew us, would be wonderful," Kyad said. "Wouldn't it?" "So long as you don't use the..." he stopped seeing Kyad about to bite him, and quickly changed what he was saying. "Anything would be fine." Kyad smirked at him, then smiled at the ladies. "I'm still learning the ways of tea." Divena "Perhaps something a little sweeter?" Sinnamin suggested, filling the pot with fresh water. "Something that will still be good even if it cools down... Oh, and for your information, Na'visya, it turns out that plant is not poisonous after all. Lian knows plants." "I have some knowledge of herbs," Lian corrected, humbly. "I'm by no means an expert. But I did recognize that one." Bardess Ookami "Good. Then she can teach you for a while, so you can learn what you need to so as to not kill yourself," he said, nodding. Kyad's brows lifted, but he decided to stay out of this for now, moving to stand closer to Lian. Divena Lian opened her mouth to admit that that was exactly what she was planning on doing. Before she could, however, Sinnamin jumped in. "You can't just make decisions for others like that," she scolded Na'visya. "How do you know she isn't very busy? She said she was heading home to visit her uncle. Maybe he's eagerly looking forward to seeing her. Did you think of that? Of course not." Bardess Ookami "Then you can travel with her or something. It makes the most sense!" he protested. Divena Sinnamin started to argue about that, but she stopped when something else occurred to her. "If I agree to go with them, does that mean you'll go home and leave me be?" Bardess Ookami "I... uh.... ah.... um.. that is.... I should go too... to learn more from Kyad."
"Next time without the stuttering, but you're getting there," Kyad said with quiet amusement. Divena "That really won't be necessary," Lian offered. "Kyad and I can stay here for a few days... if there's more to be learned for either of you, then we can discuss travel." Bardess Ookami "That plan works for me," Kyad agreed. "If we wouldn't be imposing," he asked of sinnamin. Divena "Not at all," Sinnamin rushed to assure them. "I don't mind you or Lian staying at all.... Na'visya can go and stay with his family." Bardess Ookami "Hey!" he said, feeling insulted and unwanted. Divena "If your family lives nearby then there's no reason for you to stay here," Sinnamin pointed out, primly. "Besides, I've already made it clear that I will not live with someone who hates tea, and you've made it clear that you hate tea." Bardess Ookami "I hate you putting yourself in needless danger," he said in a mutter. "There's a difference." "Then sip the tea," Kyad clued him in softly. His hears lowered and he sipped carefully. Divena "And again, I point out that you don't know me," Sinnamin reminded him. She watched him closely as he sipped the cold tea, though. Maybe he was coming around. "No one knows anyone else until they do," Lian pointed out, sagely. Bardess Ookami "Wise words," Kyad said with a nod. "If we never spoke to strangers, we'd never see anyone but." Meekly he sipped a bit more, watching Cin carefully as he did, trying to b sneaky about watching her, but failing. Divena Sinnamin frowned at him, suddenly suspicious about this change in behavior. Or maybe it wasn't a change in behavior. Maybe this was just what he was like when he was calm. "Well.... if he can keep his temper..." "I'm certain Kyad can keep him in check," Lian murmured. Bardess Ookami "Keeping tempers calm is one of the best ways to protect anyone," Kyad said coolly. "The easiest fight to win is one that never happens."
Kyad was clearly weird, but the lady wasn't rejecting him anymore, so... that was something... right? Divena "More wise words," Lian said, amused. She didn't disagree, but the longer she talked to this younger couple, the more it all amused her. Sinnamin nodded a bit. "I've found many disputes can be solved over a good cup of tea." Bardess Ookami "Well, you can lead a soq to tea, the tricky part is getting him to drink," Kyad said, amused. "But yes, a calm discussion does sooth many a fiery temper." If he just kept sipping quietly, would they forget he was there? At the moment, he was kind of hoping so... It didn't occur to him that Kyad was being extra chatty to make exactly that happen. Divena Lian arched a brow at Kyad, trying hard not to groan at what he had just said. Surely he was better than that... then again... maybe not. Sinnamin chuckled a bit and poured them each fresh cups of tea. "This is a more fruity blend. Less soothing and more... sweet."

IM RP Bardess Ookami "Certainly not as sweet as the one who made it." He winked at Lian, to show her that yes, he was intentionally playing it up. Lorimar would be so proud of him. "So, tell us more of your favorite teas?" he asked.
He was about to complain that no one wanted to hear about tea but then he remembered the advice and winced, apparently... he now wanted to hear about tea. Joy. Divena Lian smiled into her cup.Sinnamin brightened a bit. "There are so many different ones," she gushed, happily. "It's so difficult to choose just a single favorite. I love them all, really." Bardess Ookami "What are some of the qualities that make one a favorite, over another?" Kyad asked. He sipped the new tea and blinked. Okay, that...tasted...different than the first. and... hot was weird. Why was it hot? Who drank hot things? Divena "Hmm... well, I personally favor sweet over bitter, but some people like the bitter better. Then there's always the option between practical or preference. Some teas are bitter, but serve a practical purpose that one needs to get through one's day...." Sinnamin could happily go on all day. She did note that Na'visya seemed to like this one more... or maybe not... Bardess Ookami "What in the world practical purpose could it serve?" he blurted out before he stopped to think. "It's just warm river water with flavor." Kyad managed not to bite the pup. Divena "It's not just river water with flavor," Sinnamin explained, patiently. "Depending on the type of herbs mixed in, it can reduce your fever if you have one. It can lower your blood pressure and make you feel calmer. It can help you sleep. It can keep you awake... It all depends on the blend." Bardess Ookami "How could it do all that?" he asked, not buying it. "It's just flowers and stuff." Divena "You have absolutely no idea how medicine is made, do you?" she asked, dryly. Bardess Ookami "None," he said. Darling, that's not a thing to be proud of. Kyad gave Lian an amused look as he sipped his tea. Divena Lian rolled her eyes slightly at that. Sinnamin stared at him for a moment then sighed. "Medicine is made out of flowers, sir. And some teas are medicines." Bardess Ookami "You're a healer?" he asked, confused. Divena "I don't have to be a healer to know that you make medicines out of plants. Any idiot would be able to tell you that," Sinnamin huffed, starting to lose her patience with him... again. Bardess Ookami He huffed about to snap at her. Kyad interrupted. "Actually, I find that there are always things I presumed everyone knew that I am learning that they didn't, and I am ever learning new things that others presumed to be common sense. The problem with common sense is that for all it's called common, we share less of it than most people realize." He closed his mouth and eyed Kyad. Divena Sinnamin frowned a bit, considering that. "I suppose that makes sense... but if he doesn't even know anything about medicine, then he shouldn't lecture someone who knows more about herbs what they can and can't do with them.""I'm sure he wasn't trying to lecture you," Lian soothed. Bardess Ookami "I was trying to.." he stopped when Kyad snapped teeth towards his ear. "Sometimes when you worry about someone else, you don't always worry about logic or being sensible. That's why we say emotions and thoughts live in different parts of the body. They don't always match." Divena "He shouldn't worry about a complete stranger whom he knows nothing about," she said, still slightly irritated. "Or at the very least, he shouldn't presume to tell a complete stranger what to do." Bardess Ookami "I can understand being concerned about a complete stranger," Kyad said, glancing to Lian, to see if she would offer assistance Divena Lian sipped her tea. "Some people care a great deal, and don't know quite how to express it," she agreed. Bardess Ookami He sputtered, not sure if he was being insulted there or not. He didn't know how to respond to that. "It's part of learning, of growing," Kyad said. "We learn from how people react to what we do. You'll get there." "....Thanks.....I think...." he muttered. Divena Sinnamin wondered if he had to learn with her. "How are you enjoying the tea?" she asked, instead of continuing along that line of thought. Bardess Ookami "Wh....who are you asking?" he stammered.
Kyad was pretty sure he knew who she was asking, so he kept his mouth closed. Even if he was wrong, it was better to keep his mouth shut, really. They needed to work this out between them. Divena "Anyone who would like to answer," Sinnamin said with a small shrug. "I don't have guests often. I adore feedback whenever possible." "Well, mine's delightful," Lian supplied. Bardess Ookami He looked nervously at Kyad, did that mean he had to answer? Seeing Kyad's nod, he realized he did. "It..." he really had no clue how to answer it. "The second tasted better than the first....?" he ventured, trying to say something. Divena "So sweet is more to your tastes, then," Sinnamin noted that for the future. "But did you LIKE it?" Bardess Ookami "I..." How did you even answer a thing like that? He decided to ask outright. "How do you even answer that?" Divena "I tend to prefer honesty. Either you liked it, or you didn't... or you had no opinion at all..." Though she wasn't sure how anyone could have no opinion on tea. Bardess Ookami "Perhaps he does not have enough experience or context with teas, or from what he said, perhaps with anything to drink that isn't water. Without a sense of scale, how could he answer? There is the possibility that he needs to experience more teas over a longer span of time before he could formulate a proper opinion." "Um.... That, I think," he said, still not sure if he was being insulted, but smart enough to know that the golden one was trying to help him out. He wasn't too proud to take it. Divena "Oh... well... I'd be happy to make you some other blends so you can learn what you like..." Lian settled in to watch the two. It seemed that Kyad had worked his magic after all.
