Annabelle was not the only one out today seeking small creatures to chase after.
Within the forest there was another mare who showed the same interest, but, tasting their blood was not part of her routine.
A steady hoof was placed upon a scared squirrel's tail while it dug its nail deep into the ground, scratching it. With all its might it tried to free itself from that sturdy unavoidable pressure that was stopping the blood flow on its tail. Pain shot through the squirrel's body but it didn't give up. It shrieked and peeped to express the pain and agony it's going through, and again it struggled to get away from its predator's grasp in order to stay alive. This time, it became so desperate it even started to hit the black and red leg for it to lift back up.
Kye chuckled loudly as she pressed her hoof down harder onto the squishy tail. She watched the frantic squirrel with a set of bloody red eyes followed with a twisted smile. She leaned her head down low, sniffing the scent of the critter with her nose, and nipped at it playfully.
The squirrel wiggled and squirmed underneath her hoof, and after a while, stopped struggling.
"Aw, why did you stop moving?" she asked the critter, and give it another quick nibble without actually biting into its flesh. It didn't respond back to her and she lifted her hoof.
The mare knew it would bolt straight back into the bushes and stay out of sight. It was just a matter of time for it to do so since she had drained all of the critter's energy. She circled around it, protecting it, and waited for it to safely disappear into the grove.
However, her attention shifted as she noticed patches of red liquid that seemed to make a trail to somewhere. Perhaps something was injured? Perhaps it was already dead and got carried away? Her curiosity told her to go find out. She nudged the tired squirrel under a broad piece of flat leaf to rest and went on her way. She reminded herself that if she finds out that it's a walker up ahead, then she is getting the hell out of there.
