But the staple goods were always nice, too, and for all the smells of cookies and cakes, he could never get tired of the smell of freshly baked bread. They were having a sale today, so everything was busy. He'd been baking nonstop and was only just now swapping his position in the kitchen for one up at the registers. They had been bustling earlier, and there was always an hour or two between brunch and lunch when things calmed down, and he was looking forward to that. It always meant he could spend a little more time actually talking with the customers instead of just rushing from one to the next.
He seemed in good spirits, took a few orders, and watched as the slow started to descend. No matter if he was busy or if time was dragging, if he was taking orders or cleaning, the smile never left his face. At the very least, he was enjoying his time here. When you were having fun, it was almost like you weren't even working—so getting a paycheck for it was the icing on the cake.
