Kishi didn't always like his mate. For having a dam who was one swell dame, Resonance channeled her stodgy sire with a severity that simply stupefied the stallion. Bound and determined not to disappoint Khalon, sometimes it seemed she had an icicle up her spine. Or some other, less polite place. Which was a total mystery to him of course, everyone knew mares didn't have bodily functions. As Resonance had told him repeatedly when he accused her of gassing up the teepee. (Then again, it may have had something to do with her embarrassment over gassing up the teepee.) She could be a right pain sometimes, with her nose in the air like a right Princess, but she was a feisty, fiery filly when he got her temper up, and that was half of the fun of mated life. One day she'd likely gore him out of frustration, but what a way to go. Today, however, he hadn't been in trouble once. It was both suspicious and alarming- to him as much as anyone who knew him. He'd been a downright model mate, doing what he was told with nary a complaint. That was all securely internalized. He wanted to live. There was no real reason for it. He'd had a meeting with Ishtar- a right pretty thing she was growing into. Shame she'd not got either of her parent's wings. But then, only one of the boys had inherited his wings as well. Sometimes it just worked out that way. But back on track-- he'd had a meeting with Ishtar, they'd talked about the weather, her sister, her brothers, how she'd been accepted so eagerly by her step-grandparents... He was just feeling real appreciative of his fantastically flatulent flame.

Resonance, likewise, didn't always like her mate. About ninety percent of the time she fantasized about goring her horn through his soft, tender stomach while he slept. Of course, that would be dreadfully dishonorable and the dainty mare wasn't about to get her hooves dirty. No, she would likely let her father eventually break down and do it for her. At least he would enjoy it and her children wouldn't hate her. To her credit, she had loosened up quite a bit since their foals had been born and she had watched them grow. It was hard to be snooty when one had to clean up tiny creatures who could barely fend for themselves. Still, she did hold herself to the highest possible standard - and Kishi only sometimes met that standard. Today, she was sure he had cheated or something. Each time he had behaved 'perfectly' all day, he'd been hiding something disastrous. After the fifth time of him doing what she asked without snarky comment or complaint, she gave him a look. And then looked up at the sky with a scrutinizing expression on her face.

She was onto him.
To be fair he hadn't done anything wrong.
To also be fair, he was acting suspicious.
To be fair, he also wasn't sure why he didn't just tell him he'd gone on a daddy-date with his little girl. Resonance would understand that. She'd been a little girl. Once.
But when she gave him a look, then glanced at the sky, he debated launching himself into it in preparation for the dubiously certain admonishment that was almost certainly possibly coming.
Still, he shouldn't assume. Instead, he would go with the tried but true method of playing innocent. It only failed 45.7% of the time, compared with the 100% failure chance of making assumptions instead of asking questions.
"Yesss?" The question was dragged out slowly, do make sure he didn't stammer, splutter, or generally sound like an idiot. What had happened to the suave playboy he had been? The one who used to be able to talk to mares without tripping over his tongue and mentally drooling?

"I was just checking if there was fire falling from the sky, or pigs." She said innocently, batting her pretty eyelashes at the stallion. Resonance wasn't about to go out and just accuse him of something. Assuming was rude, after all. Of course to Resonance logic, being snarky and sarcastic and implying that he was up to something was perfectly polite.
Sometimes she was confusing.
"Since I don't see any...." Res trailed off, quirking an eyebrow at him and waiting for him to answer her unanswered question.

Resonance was always so confusing.
Kishi turned an eye up to the sky, double-checking for flames and pigs, but no; Her assessment was, as per the usual trend, sound. Which meant that she was playing coy with him.
She batted her eyelashes, and Kishi blinked at her patiently.
"We're perfectly safe from pigs, my dear. I don't see your father anywhere. And I assure you, he can't fly."

It was times like this that Resonance wished she had inherited her mother's wings, if for no other reason that she would have appreciated being able to beat Kishi with them without permanently mauling him with her less soft horn. Her eyes narrowed into slits as she stared at her mate.
Calling her father a pig was going one step too far.
"I didn't know you had a death wish, Kishi." She said quietly, suddenly turning very serious. Whether she WAS actually serious or not would be up to Kishi to decide. Thus far, Resonance hadn't displayed any truly violent tendencies, but where her father was concerned, it was entirely possible.
Daddy's little princess, indeed.

Oh look- over in the distance. A distraction. "I wouldn't say I have a death wish so much as a very distinct opinion on your father's involvement in our relationship. Which isn't going to be argued over. Again. I can never win that one, and I accept it."
Theoretically, if he wanted to kill her, he could do it by being nice to her father. The shock would surely make her keel over. And with that gleam in her eye, it would be self-defense.
"Did I tell you you're looking particularly healthy today?"

"My father doesn't have that much of an involvement in our relationship. The only thing he insisted on is mateship, and I don't see you complaining about that..." Pause. "Anymore." Her head lowered, as if she were going to gore him, but instead nuzzled gently into his neck. It was a brief show of affection, but it was long since won.
Until he said she looked healthy. "I hope you aren't calling me fat." She had worked so hard to regain herself after birthing his three sons.

"There are many things you don't see my mate, but complaints about our mating is not one of those." Not that he was calling her blind, he was just calling it like he saw it. Rather like the antics Reflection got up to behind Khalon's back, and Arae's penchant for preferring to stare at pretty mares like a creeper than go up and actually talk to one.
Pausing, the prey considered the trap that had been placed before him. "I said healthy, not hefty, my love. Perhaps we should have someone check your ears?" There. That couldn't possibly get him in any less trouble. And it would stir her away from the fact that she had been eating a little more honeysuckle...

"You were so nice and romantic when we first met," she said at the comment of getting her ears checked, though she didn't move her head from his neck. Instead, she just closed her eyes and heaved a soft sigh. The mateship had been entirely forced - but, if one was completely honest, she didn't think anyone could force Kishi to do something he truly was against.
At least, Resonance's ego was going to hope that was true.
"Speaking of healthy or hefty, I was..." She paused for a second, unsure of how the conversation was going to go. "I was thinking that, perhaps, it wouldn't be awful to have more children." You know, ones that weren't a awful surprise or a sword point to mateship. Children who were chosen, and, reluctant as she was to admit it, made with love. Had they ever once said those words to each other?
Perhaps they were both too stubborn to voice it. But neither had left. That was a start, wasn't it?
