From-Deepest-Understanding (Fathom for short) is the God of Guilt, and as consequence feels guilty for everything. Fathom is non-gender conforming and usually wears loose clothing to hide their biological sex. They, their, and theirs are the pronouns used with Fathom. Yes, English majors/teachers/nitpicky people, "they" is not a singular pronoun. Unfortunately, calling someone "it" and "thing" is incredibly rude and dehumanizing.
Fathom used to visit the human realm in the form of a dragon, but nowadays it would be a major spectacle for a dragon to be flying around. Occasionally, they will lounge around in the Forbidden Forest in their draconic form. Somehow, being a massive fire-breathing creature relieves their constant guilt temporarily.
My inspiration for Fathom was, in fact, a character from the Elder Scrolls game, Skyrim. The character is an Argonian (Lizard human hybrid) female named From-Deepest-Fathoms. She is ridden with guilt because her and some comrades stole a Dwemer Lexicon (cube that holds vast amounts of knowledge) and she is the only one who made it out alive.
When looking for a good name, I wanted something kind of like From-Deepest-Fathoms. So I looked up the definition of "fathom". The first definition I found was that it was a measurement used for a body of water, usually an ocean. So my first thought had been "From-Deepest-Oceans", which sounds pretty freaking cool, but it didn't really have anything to do with guilt. So I chose the second definition, to understand.
