The night was already in full swing with both moons high in the air as Amonee Brycer emerged from his hive with a yawn. He'd stayed up too late again yesterday, trekking around the base of the mountains all afternoon and as a result had slept through a good chunk of today's night. Bleary eyes scanned the scenery before him as the young jadeblood set off on another journey. He had a goal in mind for today: find something unusual to capture on a canvas!
"Unicroak, do you think we'll find any cool rocks today?" His lusus wandered behind him quietly, not exactly looking forward to spending another day looking at rocks but she nodded along. Unicroak much preferred traveling to the aquatic parts of Alternia to float in the water and let it wash away her troubles. But she would put her child's needs above her own and so she lumbered along with her excitable troll's pace.
Up ahead appeared to be a pleasant overlook with a great view of the forests that bordered Busthind's rocky peaks. Amonee blinked in surprise at seeing what seemed to be another troll sitting peacefully working on something in his hands. Was he writing? Or was it... He'd have to get a closer look to confirm his suspicions!
"Excuse me!" Eager footsteps hurried towards the stranger and a bright smile came with them. "Are you drawing something? Busthind is full of lovely things to sketch, isn't it?" He looked the other troll's appearance over and approved of the fluffy hooded jacket. It looked cozy, warm and soft to sink a hand into!
"Is it okay if I look? Oh, pleaseee?" He really hoped it was alright! Amonee was dying to meet another artist and share work back and forth. It was just so much fun to create, wasn't it? Hopefully he wasn't coming on too strong.saihen Let me know if I should change anything! I just picked a very open-ended location on the side of a cliff basically but I can change it if Azrael is interested in drawing specific things!

After all the chaos he'd been through over the past few weeks, it was nice to just sit on the cliff and look at the scenery as mountain met forest. It was an enchanting view and Azrael felt inspired to draw it as best he could. It has been a long time since he had felt this much peace at one moment and he was grateful. He pulled off his satchel and riffled through it so that he could pull out his colored pencils and sketch diary. Once he had his materials out he set to work on transferring the landscape to his page. He had become so absorbed in his picture that he hadn't been paying too close attention to the jadeblooded troll that had approached him. It only became apparent that someone was there with him when the troll had began talking. Azrael, however aware he was, would not look up from what he was doing until he was finished or at least content with the picture.. Scarfettle was the one who looked over the other troll and then the troll's lusus, sizing them up, before going back to lazily resting on Azrael's head. When the young blueblood finally looked up to the jadeblood he gave an indifferent shrug and held out his sketchpad. " It's not much, I just thought I'd make a change today and draw scenery," Azrael stated as he passed off his sketch diary. " Eager...Hmm, I don't think I've seen you around here before, I would know if I had," he leaned back on his hands as his current companion looked over his sketch diary. " I am Azreal Mortis, to whom do I owe the pleasure?" Yamashii It's totally cool ovo Azrael is a strange one Amonee, be warneeed,

"You're very good. And you use nice colors." Amonee took the sketchbook in his hands and looked over the drawing with a happy flush on his face. This was really a wonderful sketch, this Azrael Mortis put a lot of effort into his work. And the way he talked made it clear that he was not a casual artist, he must do this a lot. Bold smooth lines and it looked like Azrael had filled up a good chunk of the pages in this book already.
"I'm Amonee Brycer! I'm a painter." Blurted out of his mouth quickly, "I live around here actually but I um..." He tended to be about and active during the daylight. But saying that to a complete stranger would probably weird them out, right? The jadeblood watched Azrael's lusus comfortably laze on his head and analyzed the blueblood's posture. Maybe he would be cool with it! He looked very relaxed and non-threatening.
"I tend to be more active during the, well, day." His eyes searched Azrael's for judgement.

When he heard about Amonee being more active during the day, his face changed from one of relaxed nonchalance to one of utter surprise. " Day?" Azrael repeated slowly and deliberately as though the word were foreign to him. " The day, huh... that's fascinating! I've never met anyone who was up during the day on purpose," the blueblood looked at the sky in thought. What would it be like to be more active during the day? Well, he knew there were adverse effects so this troll was really brave or really stupid. " But, about my art, that is very kind of you to say," he saId before flashing Amonee a smile. So this troll was a fellow artist, very good! He wasn't alone in his pursuit of art aside from that of the common higher art. " A painter you say? I do painting myself, but... I don't bring the supplies with me, too bulky and messy if something happens while I explore, so that stays back in my hive," He pointed out a hive that jutted out of the side of the mountain, though it was a little bit further away and on a very different part of busthind. " If you want to stop by my hive sometime, I wouldn't mind showing you, but it would probably be a time where I must require you to bring your work as well," At the end of his statement he found himself fully laying on the ground and looking up at the jadeblood, a bored expression masking his interest from moments ago. Scarfettle crawled out from under his child, gave an indignant chitter and curled up next to his charge's head while watching the jadeblood attentively.

Watching Azrael's expressions come and go was very interesting. The blueblood shifted seamlessly between guarded and unguarded which only intrigued the jadeblood more. Amonee was eager to find friends and didn't mind a good challenge. The other boy relaxed on the ground looking up towards the sky. It looked peaceful but Amonee stayed standing for now.
"Daytime's full of surprises for sure. But it is very beautiful!" He fumbled with his bag of belongings to pull out a piece he'd worked on a few days ago. Amonee had been hoping to take it to town to sell at some point but he was somewhat bad about getting around to doing all his errands on time.
"Like the sunrise, you know? This is all I've got with me for now." The brilliant colors of the transition from night to day were one of his favorite subjects. The painting was done in a delicate water color which was not Amonee's strongest method of painting unfortunately. But it was more portable than bringing along all his other supplies. He leaned down slightly to watch Azrael's expression as the blueblood looked over his work. Long strands of black accidentally swung down into Azrael's vision prompting Amonee to brush them back in embarrassment. He needed to look perfect to made a good first impression!
"I would love to see your paintings. They must be lovely if your sketches are this good!" Amonee's fingers tapped on the sketchbook still cradled in his hands. "Maybe I'll keep it to study your technique and return it when I visit your hive~" He laughed with a teasing smile on his face, curious to see how the other boy would react to such a thing. Amonee was not mean-spirited enough to actually steal it, he just liked to see Azrael's reactions on that stoic face.

The black strands fell down and brushed past him quickly as he grabbed at the painting. Whether the hair had touched his sniff node or not, Azrael ended up turning his head and sneezing. He didn't want to ruin Amonee's painting, let alone before he got to look at it. The water colors were very nicely blended, maybe he should try water colors some time. But, the most important thing was the sunset. Azreal hadn't seen colors like that together, in a sense it was beautiful. He felt a pang in his chest, he wanted to see a sunrise but.... daylight would probably do serious irreversible damage, would he risk it? " this is beautiful, maybe sometime I can see it for myself,"
When the blueblood was done looking he passed the canvas back to it's owner. It was indeed a very beautiful sight, he wondered what other things Amonee could do. A spark of interest shone in the young bluebloods eyes. Azreal pursed his lips as best he could around his fangs at the idea of Amonee taking his sketch diary. He wasn't against the idea entirely, he had other things at home. Why was he apprehensive? Some kind of sentimental attachment to the book? Wasn't that ridiculous! " Well, if that's the case then I'm holding you to your word since you're taking my sketch diary hostage," Azrael returned the smirk as though he'd probably one upped Amonee whatever duel they were having. " Unless, of course, you mean for me to come storming your hive and recover it, I'm sure I could arrange something of the sort," At this point, Azrael actually let out a bit of a laugh at the idea. When had he become so silly? It was a welcome reprieve though, if nothing else.

Azrael mentioned seeing the sunrise for himself and a nervous tension began to build in Amonee's stomach. No, surely something like that would hurt the blueblood's vision! But before he had a chance to comment on the matter, the canvas was back in his hands and a pleasant smirk beamed up at him from Azrael's comfortable position on the ground. The other boy was taunting him back and he smiled at the slight competition.
He had a pleasant laugh, this Azrael. It felt a little unexpected coming from a boy who'd been feigning indifference while staring at the stars just moments earlier but maybe it was that juxtaposition that made him interesting.
"You're welcome to storm it if you can find it." Thankfully he hadn't given away the location of his hive yet. Azrael had motioned to a side of Busthind earlier to indicate where the blueblood lived and Amonee glanced at it one more time to try and remember it. This put him at an advantage to stage a (friendly) raid on his new friend's hive first! But he wouldn't warn Azrael of this, no, he would first get a gift and then surprise the other with an unexpected visit...
"I'll take that as an okay on keeping the book then." He shifted to hold and hide the sketchbook behind his back. "I'll bring it back in a week but I can't promise I won't draw something in it myself!" Oh he had so many ideas of what to put in it! Which one to choose? Then again this was someone else's precious private art diary. Maybe it was disrespectful to forcefully add his own work to it. Amonee didn't want to scare off or insult a friend he could finally bond with over art. This was the first person he'd met that drew on a constant basis and not as a casual thing.
"I mean, um, if it's okay with you..."

Azrael sat up from his laying position, disturbing his lusus once again who huffed and took flight. A challenge, huh? Hmmm, he did say he lived in the area didn't he? So it was close by no doubt, possibly even in the local area. He made a mental note to check the around him sometime during the week. Okay, so he had a week or less to storm Amonee's hive. Storm was such a strong word, well... yeah he was probably going to break into it and surprise Amonee at some point. The idea excited Azrael more than he had been in a long time and it showed on his face. The challenge was irresistible and on top of that he had a new friend who wasn't completely terrible.
If he had his sketch diary, he'd probably write some note about the midblood but seeing as he didn't have it he just made a mental note to write down his thoughts when he got home. That's entirely what his writing journal was for anyway, how long had it been since he used that anyway? Well, sidetracking thoughts aside, he had to figure out a way to find the jadeblood's hive.
Finally he got to his feet and shrugged at the question about his diary. He was back to his default indifference-- or maybe it was less indifference and calculated nonchalance as he put his hands in his pockets, relaxed his posture and gave Amonee a gentle smile. " It's just a book, I don't really care what you do with it so long as I get it back in one piece, It's full of notes on trolls I've met as you'll soon see," This was exciting, very exciting and he couldn't help himself!
Azrael took one of his hands out of his pockets and snapped his fingers. " I'll take an educated guess that your hive is around here somewhere, doesn't sound like too hard of a challenge," the blublood said with maybe an edge of cockiness to him. " you have a week to give me back my book, after that I'll come looking." Well, whether he got his book back or not he'd probably break into the other troll's hive at some point. Just to see if he can, hmm... maybe he should plan to prepare dinner or something. Yes, that's what he'd do. Prepare a small feast for the jadeblood.

Azrael mentioned that the book was full of notes on other trolls and Amonee instantly wanted to rifle through it, even if that was incredibly invasive. But the jadeblood couldn't help but be curious! This was essentially most of Azrael's life summed up in one neat easy to flip through package. What kinds of people did he hang out with? Who were his friends? Enemies?
Amonee's eyes flickered back to the blueblood and the boy bit his lip. He hadn't noticed the colorful stains smeared into the other boy's jacket until now. Some of the smears were blue, were they Azrael's own blood? But the colors didn't match up with his symbol. The most alarming part though was the fact that there was a touch of purple on there. Fighting a highblood was kind of a scary thought... Was this troll training to be a soldier of some sort?
But Azrael flashed that comfortable gentle smile and it just seemed impossible for the other boy to be a danger.
"One week it is. It probably won't be too hard a challenge to find." His eyes twinkled playfully, "Breaking in might be harder. But you do seem pretty strong." Once again, Amonee glanced at the bloodstains but seemed to refrain from commenting much on them. In his mind he could pretend they were just bits of paint. He got messes like that on his clothes all the time!
"Good thing for me you're so nice. I trust you won't do anything bad if you drop in while I'm out." He meant it too. Azrael had come across capable of anything but non-threatening. It felt really good to meet someone like him. Azrael's laid back attitude and willingness to indulge Amonee's curiosity put the boy near the top of his list of favorite trolls at the moment.
"I like you a lot. Can we be friends?" The young greenblood extended a hand towards the now standing blueblood with a hopeful feeling bubbling in his stomach.saihen Sorry it is so late! Got busy with irl stuff but here is a post to get things moving again! ; W;

Azrael took note of Amonee's glances. Had he noticed the stains on his coat? Really he needed to get a new one eventually. It seemed to get him a lot of stares, especially with Eridia's blood smeared into it. But, he didn't ask so Azrael couldn't be sure that's what he was looking at. Well, perhaps Amonee wasn't quite that bold. The young blueblood found himself intrigued with what Amonee's limits would be, but set that aside.
The young blueblood shrugged at the mention of how strong he seemed, " looks can be deceiving, I learned that the hard way," he gave amonee a shark-tooth smile. Though the matter of Amonee's hive was a serious one and there was the possibility of him potentially entering a highblood's home, or the home of someone that could potentially end his young life. "I think doing something bad in your hive is more risk than I'm willing to put into it, I mean, I might have the wrong hive after all!" Azrael kicked at the ground. He wouldn't want to upset Amonee anyway, he'd never met someone so pleasant.
"I like you a lot, Can we be friends?" At these words Azrael froze. His nonchalant and cool expression changed into one of surprise and he could feel the color in his cheeks rising. Azrael's mouth moved as he tried to find the words to say to the greenblood, but nothing came all that happened was Azrael gaping like a fish. After a bit of this he cleared his throat and took the greenblood's hand. " It would be a pleasure to call you... a friend," He said, though with his shock probably came out as more a breath than anything. " But, I can't gurantee that I'm the best troll to extend your friendship to,"

It was like watching a flame light up, all quiet and then a sudden warmth stretching upwards blazing with light. Azrael's cheeks burned as he struggled for words and Amonee watched him with a curious amusement. Not in a malicious way, just a fascination. There were certainly all kinds of trolls out there and he'd found a very special and complex friend.
"Looks certainly can be deceiving. At first I thought you seemed kind of stoic. But you're really rather sweet." Was Amonee teasing him? It was kind of fun to do so though the greenblood knew not everyone enjoyed that. He squeezed Azrael's hand back as the other took his to reassure him. He wasn't sure why the blueblood thought himself a bad candidate for a friend but he'd have to shoo away that kind of thinking. Friendships were what gave them all worth, right? Amonee was the type to cling to friends and he was always trying to find more.
"I'll take my chances with you. If you turn out bad, I'll just make you good again." Azrael's flustered concerns were waved away by Amonee's hand as if the problem was as simple as that. He liked the other boy and would be sure to steer him in the right direction. The jadeblood smiled with a moment of silence as he studied the other's face one more time before tucking the sketchbook into his bag of things.
"You like to paint. You see beauty around you. That's good enough for me." Long black hair swayed in the wind as Amonee stretched and seemed prepared to get moving again.
"Give me a week and I'll show you your own." He hoped someday Azrael would not protest his own worth so much. He could certainly see the goodness in him. It was time someone else helped the blueblood see it too!saihen Sorry this is so late! if Azrael's color could go any deeper blue, it would. The words Amonee threw at him were sweet and kind and kind of embarrassing, they barely knew each other after all! the young blueblood looked off for a moment. Azrael was sure he wasn't all that sweet, considering his track record with friends he was pretty sure that the greenblood was in for a ride. But... it was nice having someone actually take an interest in him rather than the other way around.
The young blueblood cleared his throat as though that would dispel any of his fluster. " I'm.... not sure it's as simple as that, but I appreciate the gesture," he muttered fearing that any louder and it would be even more obvious that Amonee had effected him in a way. " I'm... sure given time, you will see what I mean... umm, but....." Okay, he couldn't handle this anymore, it was time to go before he said something stupid and upset the greenblood. it was nice having another friend, maybe this one wouldn't turn out like Eridia. " Anyway, I should be going scarf gets cold easily, so he should it something soon... ummmmmm, it was a pleasure meeting you and I'll probably see you soon," trying to keep his tone level was hard. He could feel his voice cracking from his flustered state. But, after delivering these last words he turned and set to a jog, his spirits were surprisingly high.
