While he’s very concerned with what others think about him, he’s not very good at socializing at all. When he does, though, he tends to speak very quietly and almost always avoids looking directly at the person he’s speaking with. He's a highly anxious individual, who often jumps to the worst conclusion possible, but he's also aware that he does that which is why he avoids others so much.
When he’s not actively avoiding notice from others, Kjetil enjoys knitting. He’s particularly good at knitting sweaters and dolls, but sometimes makes hats as well. He really, really loves sweaters… They’re so easy to hide in! Aside from knitting, he also tends to collect things. Yes, just things in general. Anything he finds lying around that catches his eye, he picks up and takes home with him. Sadly, he’s a bit of a hoarder. He also loves to watch documentaries, but unfortunately they just make his paranoia and anxiety even worse. He tends to blow them out of proportion and assume that everything they say is true, even the fake documentaries, or ones that have been disproved.....
It works out fine, though. He’s in Grendel, so people are a little used to eccentricity. Being that he’s shy and doesn’t like talking to people, he doesn’t have a lot of friends at all. Large groups of people tend to make him very nervous, so he doesn’t socialize much even when he has free periods to do so. But when he does manage to make a friend, he’s very devoted. He loves to give people he’s close to little presents, usually the things he finds lying around or his own tiny knitted creations.
Many people assume that like many of the other orphans that came from the Academy, he doesn’t have any family at all. While his parents are deceased, Kjetil actually has a few aunts and uncles (like most Geists he has a large family). They simply didn’t want to be saddled with the child of the family "black sheep," and so he was sent off to the Academy. Kjetil is not even sure if one of them technically adopted him or not. Every so often he gets a small allowance from one of them, though. The rejection by his (extended) family hurts, but he tries not to show it that much. He knows things could be worse; at least he got to spend a few years with his parents before they passed.
Since he was born and raised in Ozryn, he does have a lot of Geist values instilled in him. He doesn’t really understand why everyone seems to look down on the traditions of playful thievery. He’ll occasionally engage in it himself, when someone does something mean. But more often than not, he returns the stolen item within a week, mostly to avoid the person he stole from noticing… Not they really could with all that clutter in his room. The constant pressure to adapt to demonic values is something that bothers him, but he doesn’t really want to make a fuss about it. Right now he’s not even sure he’ll ever return home to Ozryn, so he’s trying to figure out whether he should adapt, or remain true to the values his parents gave him.

Kjetil is full of imagination and uses it to the fullest. He creates all sorts of art from yarn, not including the clothing and dolls that he makes. His imaginative mind can sometimes get him into trouble, but for the most part he focuses his creativity on his work and solving day-to-day problems.
▸▸Observant
Since he doesn't really talk to others, but is concerned about their thoughts, Kjetil has become a very observant person. He watches those around him closely, studying their movements, expressions, and moods to put together a larger picture.
▸▸Caring
Socializing doesn't come easy for Kjetil, but he is a caring person. Friends will always now their value and have a shoulder to cry on whenever they need. Though, he certainly isn't much of a doormat. Kjetil does have a limit with being imposed upon, after that point he generally starts avoiding people, or can become emotionally distant.
▸▸Patient
He has a great deal of patience for other people, but not so much for himself. He'll wait however long it takes for others to feel comfortable, or get something done, with minimal prodding. However, he does have a limit, and reaching that limit can push him into a stress induced overload that's often accompanied by a tantrum.
▸▸▸▸Weaknesses▸▸Distant
Kjetil doesn't necessarily dislike people, in fact he likes them a lot, but his hypochondriac tendencies make them dislike him. This leaves him feeling distanced from others around him, he doesn't quite know how to connect- whether or not the person he's talking to will make fun of him or accept him is not really something he's willing to bet on most of the time.
▸▸Temperamental
When push comes to shove, Kjetil shoves into anger. While he never actually hits anyone, when he reaches a point of overload he's prone to throwing things or shouting at people to get away. Usually his tantrums fizzle out after a few hours. Most of the time he regrets it, but on occasion he thinks of himself as having been justified.
▸▸Hypochondriac
If there's anything that could possibly be wrong with him, Kjetil will assume it to be true and even sometimes make himself sick from the thought of it. Aside from having an anxiety disorder and depression, he doesn't actually suffer from anything else - but oh he's convinced that he does and he'll just drop dead any day now.
▸▸Hoarder
Kjetil loves to collect things. All of the things. He simply has to bring them home! All of his things have their place in his room, he even gives some items personalities and names, and becomes very attached to them. This can be quite... unwieldy for people who live with or around him.

Backstory Kjetil was born into a wealthy Geist family in Ozryn, one of those families capable of tracking their history all the way back to before the 50 Year War. His own immediate family, however, was a black sheep branch of the group. Both of his parents were wild, with little regard for the family reputation and frequently got themselves into trouble. Kjetil was often left to fend for himself- as his parents were a duo and never asked anyone else to look after him. (Something else that was very much frowned upon by his extended family.)
While they were out partying, Kjetil grew up quickly- but only in the sense that he was able to sustain himself with minimal difficulty. He never really learned how to interact with adults before the age of 12 - his parents were more like older party-loving friends than actual parents. At 13, his parents were both killed in a horseless carriage accident, leaving him an orphan.
For a few weeks he was passed from relative to relative, no one really wanted to keep him. He was too quiet. Too anxious. Too alien and definitely not Geist enough. Eventually it was decided that he would be shipped off to the Academy, since his health was steadily declining and none of his aunts or uncles wanted to be responsible for it. He was never really sure if anyone had officially adopted him, but throughout his Academy years he would occasionally receive allowances or gifts from several of them.
Once he graduated, he was encouraged to continue on to university. Probably to keep him out of the way a little longer, but he'd long since come to terms with being unwanted. It hurt, but it wasn't like he could make them love him. He chose Grendel as the school he wanted to attend- yarn art had taken a hold of his creative interests and he was hoping to explore it through their art program.
In the future...Kjetil will need to decide if he ever wants to return to Ozryn. If he does, he entitled to quite a bit of money and an estate, but he hasn't been made aware of that as of yet.
Regardless of what he chooses, he wants to open up a yarn store, and maybe even teach kids how to do all sorts of needle crafts. It'll be some time before he works up the courage to do so- first he has to overcome his fear of... well...everything.
