Historical IC background: You won't find it on any map, but all the same, it exists.

Once through the portal, the sky above filters between violet and navy and nowhere in between, a perpetual glittering haze in the air, lights glittering in the corner of your eye. The woods are welcoming and enchanting, but the night is hungry and you best not forget it.

The moon here does not obey the phases; at the entrance it is full and at its center it is new, changing as you progress through winding paths and hidden grottos, through bramble walls and witch's huts, through faery circles and recently abandoned camps with a fire still in embers.

The faery folk don't take kindly to intruders, you know, and the inhabitants of the The Orphic Wildwoods have grown wild with age. Take care, if you seek their spoils.

gaia_crown [ Getting Started: ]

Getting into The Orphic Wildwoods:
- You need to camp out in the Weeping Forest after reading the information. Hunters can enter Halloween as well without a golem (recommended, as the Wildwoods are very golem unfriendly due natural enemies), for a max of 30 minutes.
- Each roll takes 5 IC minutes - students can pretty much park here as long as they need as well as horsemen while Hunters will need to exit and enter back again.
- Basically, all Hunter and Horsemen characters have 6 chances to find the portal. If they don't find it, they will need to leave and come back. Students do not need to ICly leave and come back.
- All players roll 1d100.
- Rolling 50 or less will deposit you in the arctic, surrounded by nothing but snow and black ice.
- Rolling 70 or less will place you in an abandoned city, ghostly winds blowing through the decrepit runs.
- Rolling 80 or less will lead you to a vine covered building, consumed by green and growth.
- Rolling 81 or higher will let you find the portal! Success! You can now proceed inside.

Wearing his black hood, Rodney stepped out into the fear-filled forest.

This, he would have rather avoided. The air closed on him immediately and claustrophobically, stifling him and quickening his breath. But as he touched his foot down into the dead leaves and out into the chilly fall air, his clothing ruffled and...shifted.

The stiff black cloak became light, shimmering and silver, and his sweater thinned to a gauzy tunic that came down to his thighs. His jeans also became much tighter, and thinner, close-fitted to his slender legs. His shoes were threaded with embroidered, leafy patterns that were rich with fairy magic. WIth his already white hair and pale features, he looked less huntery and more...something else. He was still human, of course, but now he made for a pale and ghostly figure in between gnarled branches of the Forest, closer to an elf, or one of the fae, or even something altogether more divine. The only thing that had any color on him were his tattoos.

"Wh-what...oh," Rodney pulled the tunic a little lower, self-consciously. Everything felt a little too thin and a little too close to his skin.

The only nearby portal was, yet again, full of deep and black ice.

Zar wasn't expecting the forest and frankly he wasn't even sure how he got there, he had simply walked and walked and walked, following that instinct that drew him onwards. It had occurred to him a few times that it might not actually be safe out here and that whatever pulled him on like a bull by the nose might actually be a malevolent force, but it was almost a compulsion and he knew that even if he wanted to stop he could not. The sense of direction had initially been strong and true, but as the forest gave way to an older and stranger gathering of trees he realised that the sense was more scattered and harder to pin down. He began to wonder if somewhere along the way he had wandered into a portal like the ones which often drew the unsuspecting into the haunted house.

It was not - given the nature of such portals - a very reassuring thought.

The more fae the paths got, the more paranoid Zar became, realising that he might well have just wandered into the territory of some very powerful and very vindictive fae lord. And though he wasn't particularly weak these days, he was still young and didn't really fancy getting into some kind of binding curse or contract. Fae were slimy bastards and he didn't trust them as far as he could shove them.

When he spotted Rodney he was immediately classed as a "slimy faerie b*****d" thanks to his fancy and shiny clothing.

"Excuse me," he said, not thinking for a moment to don his human illusion in what he felt was Halloween "I am a little lost." he said what he hoped was disarmingly.

It was only when he got close enough for the flicking of his tongue to smell and taste the man that he realised what he was actually dealing with. His pupils narrowed down immediately but he didn't change tact. "I hope I'm not disturbing you."

"Ah! AH!" Rodney stumbled backwards into a portal, but thankfully landed on some soft undergrowth.

It was not the woods from before.

He stood, embarrassed and still...frankly, shocked, he'd seen...well, at least, he'd heard that there might be- but the hooves, and the horns, and the twisted and many-fanged face.

A demon, yeah. Chill out. They're alright guys, just don't go shaking any hands.

"A d-d-demon," Rodney said, clutching and twisting the tunic and staring at Zar with wide but determined eyes.

Zar's smile was polite and formal, deliberately avoiding displaying all of his very formidable fangs. He looked himself over thoughtfully before looking back to Rodney. He wondered if all humans were this insightful.

"Well. Last I checked, yes."

The serpentine tail coiled and rolled in sinuous waves behind him and he adjusted his cravat. "Very unusual to see one of your kind here of all places. I do hope you haven't come to steal what is mine."

Rodney got another smile. "Your kind are almost as good at sin as mine and without even a reason. If you aren't here to steal it, do keep up, I want to talk with you further."

"I don't want trouble. I'm here to help someone. Someone that needs to find a..."

He looked at the portal just beside Zar.

"...a wood."

The portal shut as soon as the demon walked through it, and Rodney blushed furiously and got back to his feet, hurrying to find another opening.

He felt like he was drowning in panic. He wasn't sure if it was the urgency to get ahead of the demon or the forest itself.

Uh, easy, let's not...stick around here too long.

"R-right, right I'm...hurrying-" Rodney found the portal back to Deus, and stood there shaking and upset for a while to let the fear drain from his system.

The techs all had a good snicker over his outfit.

He returned only after he felt much calmer.

The demon was nowhere in sight, of course.

Neither was the portal to the woods.

Maybe it was used and gone.

"Why the dreams?" he plead to nobody, "Why did you want me here? Do you want me here?"

The anxiety was all building up again. It was too much.

At last, however, he saw a faint glow, and made a beeline for a portal nestled next to a rotting log.

All at once, he was back in that other Wood.

gaia_crown [ Setting and Rules: ]

- The Woods themselves are deep within another forest, unable to be found through any way but portals. This is where the Dungeon Master comes to play. The Dungeon Master will create a new thread. Now, they will roll stats for this expedition team:
- Roll 2 20-sided dice for each player. List the players ie: 1. Player 1, 2: player 2, etc. Just roll all the dice at once. This is the number of rounds they can take for each player. Also include your own character. Post this stat at the very first post ie: Player 1 has 5 stamina, player 2 has 10 etc.
- Now players can begin to RP. They start at the base of the mountain and must move upwards. Each ACTION they take is 1 stamina point. Once they have used up all allotted stamina points they can go no further/ have to leave the area.
- If their HP turns to 0 they cannot go any further and must portal/pendant out/dissipate.
- If a character runs out of stamina or HP, they must try again from Round 1!

Quote:

gaia_crown [ Round 1: ]

- This round takes place just inside the entrance of the woods, bioluminescent and almost fae-like in appearance.
- All players must roll a 6 sided dice. If any player rolls a 2 or 4, you have triggered a boss! The DM will be in charge of RPing and keeping track of the boss's HP. The boss has 50/ 50 HP and does 5 auto damage every time it is attacked. You can attack it unlimited times within discretion. Attacks go as normal.
-The boss is a vine-covered animal, flesh woven with the plant, often a wolf or a spider the size of one. No one can go any further until the boss is defeated.
-IF NO ONE rolls a 2 or 4, or you have defeated the boss, you may proceed to round 2. If two players roll a 2 or 4, you now have two statues... congratulations.
- This initial roll does not cost stamina!
- Note that the triggers are 2 and 4 instead of 1 and 6 like other quests!

Zar was patiently waiting at the entrance of the woods, his curiosity keeping him there to see if the human ever made it, suddenly very invested in the little morsel's wellbeing.

It was a good way to keep his mind off the idea of crossing Isander here.

"You!" Rodney said, surprised to see the demon still at the beginning of the wood.

"I'm...look, I'm still waiting for someone." Someone else. "I'm...sure they'll arrive- any minute."
