After he returned home (still nervous, and shaking, and able to think about very little but the way Leslie had smashed his weapon into the guardians over and over with gleeful violence), Rodney handed over his scarf to the technological department.

At first, the thought he might have to lose it forever, in spite of what the feeling in his stomach and his weapon both insisted, that it was his.

Instead, they'd looked at him and reported the sum of money he owed them.

Rodney looked at the tech, started and pale, before asking quietly what he meant. When it was clarified, Rodney handed over the payment in happy relief. The scarf was his. He didn't know much about it past that it was his and it was...it felt, well, like...magic. Fairy magic didn't seem like the most reliable, but he didn't feel like it meant him any harm.

The lab had to change the scarf. It had not been sewn for humans. The same way Seven had to be...changed to the form that they were now.

When he received the scarf back, it glittered more than ever, metallic beads with tiny inscribed runes woven through the fabric with a skilled hand. He put it around the neck, and it was still the same soft and friendly presence.

He still had dreams. Of the sentries. Of the path. Of the sharp set of blood-soaked teeth. ...Of someone needing his help.

More nervous than ever, he wrapped up his mission equipment, checked it himself, and headed alone- Not all alone, Rod - back to the portals.

Back to the Woods.

Zar's dreams were often strange, normally it was because of Barth who tended to end up bleeding over into his nocturnal adventures, sometimes it was because of other worlds where he ended up as a human knight or something equally insane. Tonight it wasn't either of those things, the only individual he had to blame was himself for the strange dreams he found himself in.

Before him stretched out a dark forest, a forest that called to him and pulled him almost physically forward into its embrace, bioluminescent and strange. It didn't feel like Halloween, or at least anywhere in Halloween that he had ever been. He wasn't sure how he felt about the damp or the sickly sour smell of decay which filled his senses even in the dream. It was extremely vivid, more vivid than a dream had any right to be and he knew if he saw the place again he would remember it.

He wandered for what felt like hours, not sure what he was looking for, meandering and chasing that desperate feeling that there was something here that he needed. The winding trails led to dead ends and mushrooms, but never the object he sought.

He never found it, and when he woke the desire to seek it out lingered persistently.

It lingered for hours

Eventually he had to leave, he had to go and see if he could find it, it was important somehow.

The small chicken baby was left in the care of Calder and he said he would be right back. It probably wasn't the responsible thing to do, but Zar wasn't exactly the most responsible creature in Halloween. At best he'd find what he was looking for and worst he'd wander around for a while and get the the desire out of his system.

It couldn't be any worse than that, right?
