Today was not Histeol's first day at the Academy. No, this was his...seventeenth? Day at the Academy. Well, going to school here--he didn't live here, oh, goodness, no! Teo lived at home, on the farm, with Mom and Cal. He didn't live here, though he knew some kids did live here. But for him, this was just his school. He was coming in in the middle of the year, which he'd been warned would be an awkward time to come in. There was already so much to catch up on, but honestly, it had been hyped up so much that it was almost a let-down. Sure, classes were a little tricky, but they were learning new stuff all the time, so it wasn't like he had to catch up on everything. He just had to catch up on some stuff. Like some bits of social studies they'd already covered, or some books he hadn't read yet, or some inside jokes he hadn't been privy to. To be fair on that last one, he probably wouldn't have been in on them anyway. Teo tended not to be in on things much. He'd never had much in the way of friends his age. Mostly just adults.
It was either because of the weird way he'd been raised until he met Mom, or it was his eyes. Eyes were a weird concept to Teo. He didn't have any--Traliada had insisted that they only slowed people down and that he was lucky to have them. He wasn't quite sure about that, but at least he didn't know what he was missing, right? Everyone else might have eyesight, but since he'd never had it, he was just fine. It was a little...isolating, though. To hear other kids talk about their favorite colors, or about how cute something was. Teo had to guess with his hands and withstand the shrieks of laughter from his peers when he found out that the pet he'd declared adorable was "really ugly." Apparently beauty couldn't be felt, no matter how nice things felt.
Teo wished someone else understood. As it was, he was surrounded by sighted people. The closest he could come was with the end of his cane, which he swept across his path in broad arcs wherever he went. Speaking of which, the end of his cane had hit something relatively soft. An ankle, probably. "Oh, excuse me, sorry!" he said to the person he'd just hit.

Lost. Again. Honestly he should really invest in a better way of finding his way around the academy. The campus was just so large, it was hard to pinpoint exactly where he was without some assistance. Contrary to popular belief, Lior had not really developed any "special" compensation from his other senses... And thus, he found himself getting turned around in the halls that all sounded the same. Not to mention all of those stairs. Ugh. Why did they have to have so many stairs? He'd toppled down one of the smaller cases earlier that morning and his behind was still sore from it.
He was just about to give up and attempt to find someone nearby to ask where he was when he felt something tap against one of his ankles. Startled, he froze up, listening for what was going on... an apology? The voice sounded small, definitely someone shorter than him - which probably meant... a freshling? "Oh, it's okay, I probably stepped into your path, didn't I?" He laughed a little, hoping the lighthearted attitude would put the child at ease. Ever since running into Siren, he'd become a lot more paranoid about the dangers of running into strange people. "Ah, you wouldn't happen to know which corridor this is, would you?" Well, he might as well ask. If a freshling was here, he was probably extremely off course... or the freshling was just far away from where they usually stayed?

Teo was glad that the other Nightmare hadn't gotten angry at him. From the position of the voice, he guessed that it was a junior. From the pitch and timbre, it was either a boy or an androgyne. It could have been a rather short Imp senior, actually, but it was more likely that the other student was just a junior. There were more juniors than there were Imp seniors. It probably wasn't a Baphomet, either--hitting a hoof would have felt and sounded different. He tilted his head in the direction he guessed the stranger's face to be and smiled. This was the point where the other student realized he was blind.
Oddly enough, though, they didn't comment on his lack of sight. Instead, they asked him where they were. Well, that was unexpected. His wing twitched, then curled back up. "Um..." Where were they? "This is the 400 hall," he said. "The eastern end of it, anyway. So I think we're between rooms 404 and 405? Hold on a second." He swept his way to the wall, hand reaching up to feel the placard on the wall next to the classroom door. He walked back to the other student and pointed in the direction he'd just come. "Yup, that's room 404." It suddenly struck him how...strange that question was. No one had ever asked him where they were. Asked him for directions, sure, but those had always been grown-ups. This was a student, and the student wasn't looking for directions, but looking for an answer to where they were. He frowned. He'd never heard anyone ask where they were before...
Unless...
"Are you...blind?" he asked. His voice was not gentle, but neither was it harsh. Instead it was rather enthusiastic. Finally! Someone else who was blind! Someone else who knew what he went through on a daily basis! "That's so amazing! I'm blind, too!" His voice echoed off the walls. A door opened and a teacher told them to shush.

He blinked, thinking... 400 hall... no, this was definitely not where he wanted to be. He'd meant to be over in 150, not 400. How on earth had he managed to get this off course? Ugh, he knew he should have stopped avoiding that hall he met Siren in... It wasn't like should be there all the time, right? He blinked, tiling his head to listen to the freshling a little easier... Alright, if he just continued on his way he could take a left and go back down towards 100 halls.... Yeah...
The question caught him by surprise. Normally people noticed by now that he couldn't see, but they generally weren't excited about it. A quick follow up from the freshling explained it. Wow! This was the first blind child he'd run into this entire time. "Oh! Yes I am!" He smiled, clapping his hands together softly. "I haven't met anyone else here who is also blind, this is quite amazing. What's your name? I'm Lior." Normally, he would have offered hand, but since neither of them could see, why bother with that?
