The wind was bitterly cold, and snow was steadily drifting downwards creating a slowly growing ocean of white. Clouds hung heavy obscuring the sun from view which only caused it to become colder this far up the mountain. It was a dangerous time to be traveling, especially for those that didn’t know the mountains well. This sort of weather could freeze one up in an instant if given the chance.
Still, Halldora had managed to find a moment to herself and she’d taken it. Even if it meant wandering the frigid wasteland outside of the warmth of her herd’s cavern home. It was rather awful being cooped up for so long, and Halldora admittedly missed the rush of being out here, leading her men to victory. A small sigh escaped her as she glanced around. The snow was making it hard to make anything out, not that she truly expected to find anything anyway.
Their herd lands tended to stay secure most of the time because of how inaccessible they were for most. She rolled her shoulders, about to turn around when something caught her attention. Strange, it was a rare occasion when there was still greenery left up here. A tree perhaps that was all she could think of that would still be alive out here.
She was going to leave it at that when there was a flash of orange and it seemed to be moving. This caused her to turn towards it once more. Hall watched it for a long moment before slowly moving forward.
Much to her surprise when the colorful spring blob actually took shape it was a mare, a very injured mare. Halldora didn’t even pause as she bounded over through the snow to hunker down over the mare, protecting her smaller body with her much larger form. Her wings were broken; there was little doubt in Halldora’s mind about that.
“Miss, can you hear me? What’s your name? Can you stand?” Though Halldora didn’t want to bombard her with questions she needed to get them back home as soon as was possible.
