Weeks of awkward tiptoeing had lead up to this moment. They had finally reached the breaking point it seemed. Eye contact that lasted a bit too long and 'accidental' brushes. Stasya had told Alucia that a blind pony could see that there was something between them. Stasya often asked her what was holding them back. But Alucia had always been careful to hide her past from Stasya, and revealing this would expose everything. So she just smiled and laughed Stasya off. She and the cerynei mare were acquaintances, barely friends, and certainly no where near romantic.
Lies. Lies that used to be so easy for Alucia to conjure and spin to construct her perfect world. But with Nasille crashing into her life again after so long... Alucia wasn't sure if her structured world was so perfect anymore. She was so very conflicted...
CRASH
Alucia was brought out of her melancholy musings by Beau, one of the buffaloes that protected the herd, crashing into the clearing.
"TROUBLE!" he yelled
Alucia straightened to her full height and met him in the middle of the clearing. Stasya was off scouting with the rest of the buffalo for their next route, so she was in charge of the group in the meantime.
"What is it Beau?" she asked. Everyone in the clearing was tense. Beau was supposed to be picking herbs near the river with Emerald and.... Emerald and Nasille! "Where are Emerald and Nasille?!"
"Nasille fell in. I tried to grab her - I did! The water was too fast and she was swept downstream. Emerald is chasing her - she sent me back h - ALUCIA?"
Before Beau could finish, Alucia had started sprinting down the path the buffalo had made in his mad dash to return.

It had started off as a usual herb-picking trip. The soil around the river was rich in nutrients and there were many unique plants sprouting all over the place.
She had been sent with Emerald and Beau. Alucia liked to send her wolf companion to keep an eye on her. At least, she was pretty sure of this. The wolf often grumbled about such things under her breath. Alucia's intentions were not known to the cerynei though. Nasille thought that she had shown that she was trustworthy and wouldn't reveal Alucia's secrets. Alucia, however, was hell bent on denying they ever even knew each other, even when they were alone... which wasn't often. There were stolen glances and passing touches but... what did they mean? Nasille was quite honestly becoming frustrated. There were plenty of other mares in the herd that seemed to have an interest in her. But Nasille never pursued said interests because every time she'd look up, she'd see those green eyes and feel the butterflies of the past all over again.
The cerynei sighed and eyeballed a plant she had never seen before. It was growing out of the very edge of the river. Said river was still very angry from the earlier storm that had breezed through. The usually clear and gentle waters were brown with uprooted soil and debris, and the roaring of the quickly churning waves was loud. She could barely hear Beau and Emerald's conversation, and they were just a short distance from her. She stepped closer to the river, leaning down to squint at the plant.
"How peculiar," she murmured. She should bring it back to Kayode - the mini would be the one with the knowledge to identify it. She took another careful step towards the river and leaned down, stretching her neck as far as she could. Straining, she gripped the stem of the plant in her teeth and tugged.
POP
She gasped as the seed pods on the plant burst at the movement. She stumbled forward, letting out a screech as she fell into the unforgiving current. Her body was tossed about as she scrambled for purchase, struggling to keep her head above the muddy waves. She could see the frightened faces of Emerald and Beau. Beau running back the way they had came and Emerald running down the riverside after her.
The first thought that ran through her head was 'I'm going to die'
The second was 'Alucia,'

The only thing running through Alucia's mind was.
SHE BETTER NOT BE DEAD. SHE BETTER NOT BE DEAD
Over and over again. She couldn't be dead. No no no. A world without Nasille....
No! She had just gotten her back.
Suddenly, in the distance she saw Emerald, running along the edge of the river.
"EMERALD!" she screamed, picking up speed. "NASILLE!"

She was sure that she was bruised all over, with the river buffeting her to and fro. However, the adrenaline pumping through her veins kept her fighting. She had gone under a few times, and it felt like she had done flips in the water, resurfacing at a different angle each time. Emerald was keeping up with her though, and that gave her some comfort, despite her circumstances. She had to keep trying.
With a frustrated groan, she dug her hooves into the mud of the riverside in an attempt to stop the river from dragging her any further. For a moment she was stopped, and then the force ripped her hooves out of the dirt and pushed her under. She felt something in her knee pop and her vision whited out for a moment. When she opened her eyes, she was still underwater.
'Alucia... I'm going to die'
