Maria was late. It wasn't unusual, really. She was prone to vanishing, often pulled away by her incessant need to assist others. Today, she had noticed someone in great distress and had, without a second thought, spent thirty minutes comforting the other Nightmare. Apparently, they had been dumped and were convinced they'd be single forever. So, Maria had sat down and read their palm, reassuring them of the future she had seen where they not only would find love, but plenty of love.
It had been an emotional moment, and the time had flown past. By the time she remembered she needed to meet up with Sara and Neptune almost an hour had gone by, and she booked it. Flying past the other students, the junior spotted two familiar figures, trotting up to them. She panted loudly, leaning forward and using her knees for support.
"I – haaa – am so – haaaah – sorry...." She gasped, slowly standing up and holding her aching side. Phew! She really needed to work harder in gym class, didn't she?!

Neptune was honestly out of game options at this point... they were only allowed to play three times at each booth, and they didn't really want to leave the entrance in case Maria showed up, so there they were, dawdling around the front gates while they waited for their third to arrive. Pestilence had already eaten one of his turnips, and one of Sara's... she'd be really gassy later... He couldn't help but feel a little bad about it.
He was about to suggest that they try a different area when Maria appeared, out of breath and leaning over to try and recover from her running. He shuffled over, hovering worriedly by her side. Why was she running? Was she okay? Did someone scare her? Oh no... "I--it's okay M-Maria... a-are you alright...?" He looked to Sara, hoping she might know if Maria was unable to answer.

It had started out as a good night, but now the night was tinged with worry. Where was Maria? Was she okay? It was a dark night and everyone heard stories around this time of year about people who took advantage of the anonymity of costumes, masks, and make-up...So as her friend got more and more late, the Baphomet got more and more restless. She played with her kidden, playing a game of keep-away with a half-eaten turnip. She didn't dare let Pestilence eat more of the turnip--that was just asking for trouble, and she wasn't ready yet to start splitting up her candy into piles. That was something she would do later, when she could put the plushies away. She was going to divide them in half, one half for each of her brothers.
She sighed and leaned against Neptune, eyes closed. She nearly fell over when Neptune suddenly moved, shuffling in some direction. She stumbled, but recovered quickly when she saw the reason for the movement. "Maria!" she squealed. She threw herself at her Fallen friend, throwing her arms around her. "Maria, we were so worried about you, are you alraght?" She looked over at Neptune and gave him a smile of relief. Maria was here! She didn't look injured--her wings looked alright, and her tail looked alright, and so did her ears, and her horns weren't cracked or broken, and neither were her limbs, and oh, by the spirit of their house, Maria was here!! The night was suddenly perfect again!

Maria hadn't expected to be almost tackled, stumbling before nuzzling into Sara, giving a tiny and exhausted sigh in response. Pulling back, the girl laughed before leaning against the nearest booth, waving lazily. Oh, she was fine! Exhausted due to her lack of attention in P.E class, but fine!
"Yes! I just saw someone who looked super sad, so I gave them a reading. I think that turned into talking and.... oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be so late." She squirmed closer to her friends, offering an apologetic smile before taking a glance towards their pails. Oh man, they probably got tons of candy! Oh well, there was always next time! Maybe then she'd actually get to trick-or-treat with them! Who cared about age, anyway? She had seen plenty of adults milling about in the short few minutes she was here.

It was a relief to have her beloved roommate here with her. With Maria on one side and Neptune on the other, Sara felt like she could conquer worlds. She wrapped one arm around the hybrid's waist and the other around the Grimm's. The worry of the evening slipped away with Maria's words, and tension eased out of her. Her friend was alright. She was okay. She was safe, all of them were safe. Pestilence was weaving around their legs, butting her head against Maria's knees and tail--even the kidden was happy that they were together.
It was very like Maria to do that, actually--to stop to help someone in need. That was one of the things Sara loved about her--she was just such a wonderful, kind person. She had a big heart, and Sara couldn't help but feel herself melt when she thought about it. "That's alrahght," Sara said. "If someone needed help, then they needed help! Don't feel bad about that. We had fun here as well. We missed yah, but hey, the nahght's still young." She looked around. Trick-or-treating was still an option, assuming that Asphodel Gardens didn't turn off its lights as early as folks back home sometimes did. She felt a little too old for that, though. She wanted to do something a little more...social. "We can still fahnd somethin' to do!" She looked to Neptune to confirm. She didn't want to suggest an activity that he didn't want to do--it was so easy to talk over him, and that was the last thing she wanted to do to him. "Whaddya think we should do, Neptune?"

Oh... so she'd just... Stopped to help someone, that was all... Well, that was a relief. He felt his head clear a little, a cool sensation starting at the top of his scalp and then trickling down to his jawline - what a peculiar feeling... He leaned against Melisara, gently wrapping his own arm back around her waist. "Y--yes... it's okay, Maria... W-we're just happy that you're o-okay..." He smiled softly and nodded. Melisara's question got him thinking, though. It would be a shame if Maria missed out on all of the treats... Surely there would be something they could do?
"I--... Um..." He started, thinking, would it still be open...? "M-Mister Kirket um, he told me about... a couple of specials in the town... um... some special ice cream they're o-only going to have tonight... uh... we could see if they're... still open...? S-So Maria can have... some kind of treat..." He nodded, ears twitching a little as he looked them over, hoping they'd like his suggestion.
[FIFTY YEARS LATER I REPLY-- I AM SO SORRY. I THOUGHT I'D REPLIED...]
