Location: Sleepy Hollow, New York
Images:: x, x
General debriefing: The season of scaring is upon us, and it seems that some old legends hold kernels of truth.

...Or, at least, attract frenzied creatures that want to take advantage of all that residual fear lingering around.

* C class difficulty level (must have a team of three, and at least one of them must be an Intermediate Trainee.)

MECHANICS

* MECHANICS: RP assembling a team, as necessary, before heading towards the main portal to request a portal to Survey Mission 66H.

Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Players can continue rolling until any of the players roll a BOSS ENCOUNTER, in which case the BATTLE PHASE begins. See below for battle phase mechanics.

1- 20: IN the woods, you hear a wheezing sort of laughter, ringing in your ears. Amidst the fog, yellow-orange lights bob in the distance, steadily growing closer no matter where you go. Your vision blacks out for a few seconds, and when it returns, a singular jack o lantern is resting atop a branch, its candle snuffing out abruptly.

21 - 30: A rickety wooden bridge is ahead, obscured by fog that's the sort of cold that runs all the way down to your bones. In the distance, you hear the steady beat of hooves against dirt, but they never seem to get any closer. A plank snaps underfoot, and one of your feet slips beneath, touching the water-- and something grabs your ankle for just a moment.

31 - 40: Black shadows swirl around your feet, slowing your movement down to a crawl, until you can't walk any further at all. Paranoia filters into your thoughts before vanishing abruptly with a loud, sudden noise sharper than any gunshot. The shadows have disappeared.

41 - 60: You see an old man, stooped over as he makes his way down a path. His head is ducked down, focusing intently on watching where he steps, a candle in his hand. Trying to get his attention to ask him about anything at all results in his head turning all the way around, his eye sockets completely empty. In the blink of an eye, he's gone, leaving behind only his candlestick holder, still smoking.

61 - 80: You come upon a grove with a crumbling mausoleum, looted and rotting. Trying to go around it, somehow, pulls you right back to its entrance. Upon going in, you have a vision of your own death, however fantastical it might be. As soon as it's over, you snap back to reality, and the mausoleum is gone, leaving behind an open grave, a number of skeletons piled high in the dirt.

81- 100: BOSS ENCOUNTER:
- The hoofbeats grow closer and closer until they're thunderous in volume. Atop a black horse as gargantuan as itself, the dullahan roars out of the fog, streaks of grey along its shadowy form revealing its Insanity. The horse rears high, forelegs kicking high, and shadows form around the dullahan in wispy shapes. It laughs, deep and wild, and every mocking bark echoes through the woods.

Holding its its fiery pumpkin head high leads to the worst possible outcome. Sparks fly, jumping to the detritus littered around the forest, and before long, trees are set aflame. As every minute passes, it spreads further and further, until you are surrounded in a blaze.

You better hurry.

- BOSS MECHANICS: This boss is gigantic headless horseman that has 100 HP.

Every time you attack the boss (following the general battle rules), you TAKE 8 damage. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back.

After Boss defeat:
Upon its defeat, the fire abruptly goes out as if doused by rain. A ghostly wail shrieks and races towards the sky, and the pumpkin head lays charred and smashed on the ground.

It's over, for now.

Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back.

* 2 mission reward points for completing this successfully

Whoooo her first mission! And she got to go with people she knew! Nice! Mercy pulled out her phone as she was walking up to the portal, fingers moving quickly across the touch screen.

Quote:
Hey! Where are you guys?! I know its impossible to be late casue portal, but the midget really shouldn't be able to beat you guys to said portal since longer legs and all~ D<

It was the truth so they couldnt get too upset with her. Mercy was also glad she brought plain leggings for this since she didnt want to spend time in the laundry room trying to get stains out of some of her most expensive leggings. She had to do that with her favorite galaxy pair, wasting at least thirty minutes presoaking and scrubbing the damned things till she was satisfied the stain would come out. Damn Tommy and his stupid bathroom cleaning duties....

Well, you couldve said no Mercedes And of course Draex would choose this time to say something. "Hush..." She started tapping her foot, hand on her hip while she waited.

Rhys was reading up on the mission on the way to the portal, so yeah, he was walking slow. The man had also just woke up from a nap and was a little on the sleepy side of things, but adrenaline had a way of waking people up so that wasn't too much of a concern. A least not to him. He ignored the incoming text because he didn't feel up to explaining why he was a little behind schedule, and because he was only halfway through the mission details when she sent it. The sight of her name in the message alert banner made him roll his eyes, though. Mercy reminded him vaguely of this one cheerleader from back in high school, and one he didn't really care for.

Personal feelings aside, a mission was a mission so there he was.

The brunette gave a small wave in greeting before he finished up the brief reading and put his phone away. "So" he yawned as he approached, "midget, ever been to New York before?" There was no sign of the third hunter (who he guessed would be the senior between the three of them) yet so light conversation would help keep him awake for now.

He knew that he was supposed to meet Mercy and the other hunter at the portals today, but getting out of bed was always a problem for Wilson. It wasn’t a matter of being poor at waking up early, but a matter of his body and mind just wouldn’t move. It was only when his phone buzzed that an arm reached out so the full hunter could read the full message.

…Oh. Perhaps now was a good time to officially wake up. Guilt fueling his body, Wilson reluctantly crawled out of the sheets and grabbed the first clean set of clothes in his closet. A while later, both Mercy and Rhys would finally see the man walking across the grass toward them.

Unsurprisingly, Wilson showed up late with a cup of coffee in his hands. As per usual, the death hunter looked extremely tired with eye shadows and lousy posture, but at least he was moving around normally. This was a positive. “Sorry for being late.” It was mostly monotone with a hint of guilt. Wilson brought the cup to his lips and gestured toward the stationed guards. “Do you want me to do the honors or no?”

Mercy rolled her eyes at the midget comment, looking up at the ceiling. "Nope. Too bad this is a mission otherwise I would be doing some shopping and touring." She weeped at the lost opportunity but she supposed she could always go later when she has some leave or she was with some one that wouldnt mind deterring from the mission for a bit. "Have you been to New York meat head?" He wasnt the only one that could toss out some "nicknames".

Not a very effective way to "make friends" Mercedes~ yeah yeah yeah I know...But if they cant take the heat, then maybe they shouldnt be ******** hunters then huh? She took the silence on Drae's end as either an agreement (unlikely) or his dissapproval (Probably this one). Either way, she didnt really care all that much.

When Willson showed up finally with a cup of coffee, bad posture, eye shadows, AND a monotone voice, she tilted her head curiously. However it was none of her business if something was wrong with the senior hunter so she smiled. "I want to do it if thats okay?! What do I have to do?! Im so pumped right now!"

He took another sip out of his drink and gestured toward the guards. "Cool. The mission is Survey Mission 66H, so just tell the guards that and they'll get us the right portal; then we can get started."

Meathead. He snorted. That was new (not really). He ignored it in and just shrugged at her question. "Maybe once way, way back," he said, a curious brow lifting when he finally noticed the guy that was coming their way. It was an assumption at best, since his father might have taken him on a trip or two out of the city back when he was a kid, but he couldn't really remember.

As Wilson slumped his way over Rhys offered a nod in greeting. It was only after he dropped instructions that Mercy oh-so-eagerly decided she wanted to do herself that the brunette decided that names were likely in order.

"Rhys," he said casually, "Mist trainee. You guys know each other?"

“New York, huh?” He mused under his breath. Wilson was pretty sure he’d visited New York once when he was a child, and after that he’d visited it another handful of times. But after becoming a hunter, he hadn’t really been back since.

“Kind of.” The man answered plainly before drinking from his coffee again. “We sort of met when she first woke up.” Another sip for good measure. “Anyways, I’m Wilson. Death.” He gestured vaguely toward the scythes emblazoned on his coat. “A pleasure to meet you.” Or as pleasant as it was going to get on this island. Once the initial introductions were over, he gestured for Mercy to lead the way.

They way Rhys said way way back made her think he was older than he really was, but she decided to keep that bit to herslef. She briefly snorted at they question as well. Kind of was the proper word to use yes, if you counted the stupid phrase Willson seemed so keen on saying when she encountered him while waking up. Since introductions were over, Mercy started walking towards the portal, looking over to Willson. "So, do I just tell them the location or?"

At this rate, Wilson was going to finish his coffee in no time. Taking yet another gulp of the dark liquid, the man nodded at Mercy. "Mmhm. Just tell them the mission name. It's Survey Mission 66H. They'll take it from there."

"Alright! Lets go kick this off then!" She was still super excited as she walked up to the guards, smiling. "Survey Mission 66H please." The guards nodded and started up the portal, motioning to the group that it was safe to enter, which Mercy quickly did. She jumped through, landing on the opposite side on her bum. Well, good thing there was cushion back there...Still hurt though. "So this is New York? Its so....Foggy."

He eyed Wilson's casual approach to the whole mission thing. Maybe the lack of nerves came with going on a few of these already? He'd only been on one and it was brutally exhausting. With Zephira yammering on about "growing a pair" Rhys followed Mercy through the portal that was opened to them and landed on the other side without incident. It looked very...Halloween-esque, wherever they ended up in New York. There was even what looked like an abandoned mausoleum nearby.

Haunted house, maybe?

"Guess I can check that place out," he said as he jogged over to it. It looked normal enough, just old and falling apart, except when he tried to go around he just ended up right at the beginning. He tried a few times and eventually abandoned the idea, instead going toward the entrance and heading inside. Instead of the ruins he walked in on a rather gruesome sight of someone's head getting pulled off. The body fell limp to the ground and its head was dropped nearby, rolled and soon revealed to be his own.

His eyes went wide at the sight but before he could take a step toward it everything was gone--the mausoleum, his head and headless body, everything. When he moved closer to inspect what the hell was going on all he saw was some piled up skeletons and an empty grave so he turned and walked back to the others, a hand on his neck. He felt suddenly particularly vulnerable, which didn't sit right with him. He cringed as the image flashed in his mind again, and he jogged the rest of the way to where the other two ******** this, let's finish and get the hell on home..."

Mercy was still dusting herself off when she saw Rhys dissappear into the fog for just a moment, only to reapear all...Un chill? Maybe he was cold or something? Perhaps he saw something he didnt want to see Mercedes~ The tiny hunter blinked with a slow nod at no one in particular. That makes more sense Drae~ Look at you, being all detective and junk a sigh was heard and nothing else to which she simply laughed just a bit. Tormenting her weapon was just too much fun really!

"Oh who's that?! Hey old man!" She darted off into the fog after the old man she just saw walking to what she could only assume was no where in particular. Old people never really had places to go no matter who tried to tell her otherwise. She thought it was a bit weird for him to be holding a candle in this day and age, but maybe he could be apart of the Amish? They dont really like to rely on modern technology. What is the Amish? Ummmmn...A people I barely know about myself really. We'll have to do some research when we get home. Agreed. Wow! Drae actually agreed with her for once! She'd have to log this in for later~ Don't get used to it Mercedes... Annnnnnnd there was the a*****e again.

Mercy shook her head, jogging to catch up with the old man since he apparently moved without her knowing, tapping him on the shoulder. "Hey do you know--" What she saw next made her scream and back up, tripping so that she fell on her bum again. The old man had no eyes! What the ********?! A common occurance in Halloween...Something tells me you wouldnt actually survive there long by yourself. She was too frightened to respond, picking herslef up and running back to the others. She failed to notice the old man dissappear, leaving only the smoking candle.

She considered herslef a brave individual, but seeing an eyeless old man sent her into overdrive. Nope Nope Nope Nope Nope! "I-I agree with Big guy....Can we please just do this s**t and go home now?"

The lack of nerves actually came from a lack of ******** to give, but whatever Rhys wanted to think was fine too. Perhaps it was better that way, actually. He lingered behind the other two young trainees. If they wanted to walk around willy nilly without much care in the world, then so be it. Wilson almost wistfully watched them head in different directions. Rhys in particular disappeared briefly into the fog, heading toward what appeared to be a Haunted House. Mercy, meanwhile, seemed preoccupied with an elderly man, but whatever happened next didn’t faze the man in the slightest. At this point, this was standard for him. Or perhaps his emotions were too blunted to feel anything in particular.

He just took another casual sip from his coffee as he let the other two wander around for a while more, but when both Rhys and Mercy declared it was time to wrap this mission up as soon as possible, he immediately swerved around to head into a forest. Now where had that come from again?

Wilson closed his eyes so he could hear the wind blow the leaves into circles. Eventually there were steps in the distance, and without a drop of fear he headed toward them. Once the steps began to thunder toward him, the hunter opened his eyes and sidestepped to avoid any potential damage from the dullahan. “There we go,” he noted in a casual tone. There wasn’t much coffee left, so he dipped his head back to swallow the last of it.

“Alright, it’s time to look sharp,” he barked, crushing the paper cup in his hands and letting it fall. “Get into formation! As soon as you charge your weapon I want to see you fire that ability like your life depended on it.”

Rhys followed after Wilson in silence, sword hefted onto his shoulder as they headed toward the woods. The senior hunter's gait looked casual it almost threw him off, but at the same time made him feel a little better about being on this mission at all. It made it seem as though the guy had seen his share of things go down on these missions so wouldn't be too surprised by anything that happened. So when the giant headless horse thing came at them he followed Wilson's lead and sidestepped, shrugging his sword off and giving it a swing as the creature passed. He managed to nick it in the process; he felt the contact on his blade, and he heard the inkling of a chuckle from Zephira.

"Gotcha, I got that side," he called back and moved to fall into some semblance of a formation. He assumed they would be surrounding it, of course, and taking turns jumping in to take fair swings whenever they could.
