Ichil was dressed in commoners' clothes, a cowl obstructing her hair but leaving her face exposed. She was simply browsing the shops herself. Noblewomen were supposed to wear only the finest jewelry from commissioned jewelers, but Ichil found that common folk made things just as nice, if not better. She had gotten somewhat distracted, though, and picked up an imported fruit from a tall basket.
It was then that someone addressed her. A person recognizing her was never a good sign, so for a moment the young woman tensed and prepared to run. It wasn't one of her own, however. It was one of those Ice folk. In fact, it was one she recognized! He had assisted her on the battlefield when an enemy had come into close range. This was no threat, just a potential friend and maybe someone to flirt with, just a little.
"It was I," she said, still smirking as she placed the fruit back down where it had come from. "I remember you. You might have saved my skin." She stood with legs apart, hands on her hips and chin up as if she was sizing him up. In reality she was just admiring how different he seemed amidst the dark brown skin and black hair she was used to. "So thank you for that." She broke her stance and approached, still smiling softly.

"Ah, so you're 'Uncle Kiyelt'," Ichil replied. She had a few of those; uncles and aunts that weren't blood-related but good friends of the family. They didn't all approve of her, but hey, who did any more? It was good that at least one family had accepted someone of another race. In fact, it was fantastic that a great deal did nowadays. The wars had changed everything.
When they arrived at the stall and Kiyelt gave his exclamation, Ichil clapped her hands together and grinned. "See? I told you he was the best!" She had seen battle janarim plenty of times before, although she preferred to not think about the times they were bloodied.
This was how first meetings with Ichil generally went. Some poor soul found themselves dragged from place to place. If they enjoyed it, they stayed. If they didn't, it was no skin off her nose. Kiyelt seemed to be taking it awesomely.
"I can't imagine how long they must take." Of course then that made the carvings a mite more expensive than some could afford on pretty baubles, but she could handle it if it came to that.
