Asmodeus was a rare sight in Destiny City - not that many people would notice the presence or absence of one Dark Mirror. She had barely been out since she had become a Senshi - her dreams nightly had been tormented by visions of the future - of death and misery and fire.

She wanted to burn things. She wanted to find officers and light them up, she wanted to find everywhere they hid and destroy it. But this world wasn't that world. The Negaverse wasn't out in public, hadn't turned on the Mirror. To follow her urges, she would further damage a tenuous bond that was keeping her Court alive.

And it wasn't a Negaverse aura she felt. It was an Order one. She had never met - much less spoken to - someone on the other side, and she was, she admitted, curious. So she approached, along the streets of the theater district, until she saw a woman in a white dress that sparkled under the lights.

"You've gotta be magical." She said, stopping and resting her hands on her hips. "Sorry, I just...can't think of any other way to end up with a dress like that."

The Dark Mirror Court were not exactly Hvergelmir's friends, lately. To be fair, they weren't her enemies either, per se -- she tried not to have enemies whenever possible -- but the pain of Persephone's corruption still loomed large in her heart, as did the knowledge of Chariklo's purification. The Court had reason enough to take issue with Hvergelmir, if they chose to -- and Hvergelmir, for her part, took private issue with them.

They wanted to go to space. To repopulate. That was what they claimed they were trying to achieve -- to get to space.

It was like watching a group of people who'd fallen or jumped into a pit trying to grab other people to drag down into that pit with them, hoping if they amassed enough bodies, they'd climb their way out. The sales pitch was fundamentally flawed.

It was not worth serving Chaos for. Hvergelmir's private opinion was that the Dark Mirror Court didn't yet know what it was they were getting into bed with -- but whatever the long-term strategy was, on Chaos's part, Hvergelmir hadn't seen it yet.

She didn't have proof: only suspicions.

This turned out, however, not to be terribly relevant for the present moment. The aura she'd sensed belonged to a senshi dressed in deep flame reds, her black uniform glinting. She appeared to be more or less friendly.

"We're both magical, then," she said, smiling across the way. "Hvergelmir Knight of the Cosmos." She put out a hand. "It's nice to meet you, miss . . . ?"

"Asmodeus," the Senshi said, and she accepted the offered hand. "I've never met anyone like you," she admitted. Not that she had met many people. Asmodeus was not the most dedicated of servants of the Court - her loyalty was thin, built mostly on dreams, and even in those she had been a lone firebug.

Until she had finally taken a stand in the terrible final battle, and had fallen at the Negaverse's feet. Had given up, been subsumed by Metallia's will. She hated herself for that moment of surrender, and sometimes, she hated her black uniform and its inherent connection to the Negaverse's chaos for the same reason.

"I don't get out, much," she admitted, by way of a little explanation. 'Because when I do it's really hard to avoid wanting to track down officers and set their asses on fire.' That, she kept to herself.

So she was new, then -- in one way or another. Hvergelmir couldn't really judge anyone, in that respect. Her own first year as a knight had been terribly quiet.

Well, it was an opportunity to make some inroads, then. To create a good impression before too many other people could influence Asmodeus's worldview.

"That's okay," she said. "You're not missing out on anything good. It's a jungle out there." Hvergelmir offered a smile. "So what brings you out today?"

Asmodeus smiled, halfway. "Yeah, believe me, I know," she said, and even though she was pretty sure it wasn't as bad as it had been in her dreams, it still wasn't good. Thewe was still a war, even if she did everything she could to pretend there wasn't.

"I slip our every once n a while, to do, you know," she coughed, looked a little embarrassed, "the energy draining thing. There aren't a lot of us, so everybody's got to contribute. Or something like that." It felt awkward, to admit to it to someone else, never mind someone on the other side, that she was out intending to fish little bits of energy from these people.

Hvergelmir nodded sympathetically. "I'd heard that the Dark Mirror Court do that," she agreed. "I'm not sure I'd have the stomach for it."

That was generally not true. In fact, she was dead sure she didn't have the stomach for it -- she was vehemently opposed to it. But sometimes, tact was called for. Soft phrasing. A willingness not to be stingy on sympathy just because someone else came from a different place in life. So she allowed for the fact that she didn't know Asmodeus's life, her experiences; she could not truly say whether, if she'd lived Asmodeus's life instead of her own, she could've brought herself to send people's shadows out to steal from them.

The world was full of countless lives, and she had only lived one.

"Do you have to do it very often?"

"It's not all that bad," Asmodeus shrugged her shoulders, thinking of her mirror wraith and her shard. "Not very hands-on, or anything, just send the little magic monster out to do it for you." Which sounded terribly blithe even to her own ears, dismissive of something she knew was probably wrong, but her Court needed it. Needed - deserved - to survive.

She glanced around, and sighed. "I don't, not as often as I probably should, I know the Court needs the energy to keep going but I..." She shrugged her shoulders. "I don't really feel like I'm contributing all that much. I mean, surely they won't miss one person's quota."

Hvergelmir nodded at Asmodeus's assessment, though her expression was one of neutrality, not agreement. On the issue of whether or not the Dark Mirror Court would miss Asmodeus's contributions to its coffers of stolen energy, she couldn't really say. After all, she had no real idea why exactly the Dark Mirror Court justified any of the things it did. The seemed to have no distinct agenda other than propagating their own ranks.

Not yet, anyway. She supposed it suited their purposes to wait to reveal any great ambitions until they'd safely swelled their ranks to bursting.

"How exactly did you come to join the Dark Mirror Court?" she asked, curious.

Asmodeus swallowed. How she had come to joint he Court felt like a loaded question, because the answer was so painfully circular.

"I had dreams. Nightmares, really. About the future, about what was coming, about how ******** wrong everything was going to go if the Negaverse got to win. I saw it all, and in my dreams I was Eternal Sailor Asmodeus." She sighed. "I found someone I remembered from them. He Awakened me, and now...here I am," she said.

"And it's all a joke," a hand, waved, in frustration, "because we've all seen it, but we're supposed to tiptoe around the Negaverse, and like - I get it. They could chew us up and spit us right back out. But I hate it. So much." There was a fire in her that hadn't been there before, an anger crackling just underneath the surface. She hated the Negaverse, well and truly.

Hvergelmir absorbed this information. It was like Chariklo -- here was another person who'd seen what the future held in store, and couldn't abide just standing by while their Dark Mirror Court took no stance. She wanted more than just to save her own skin. She saw a bigger picture, and felt the weight of it.

Perhaps she, too, longed to stretch her wings. To be free to live by her own beliefs.

"The future is yours to rewrite," she offered as her assurance. "None of us are tied to that path. It's not too late to change your fate -- it never is. Fight for the future you want to create."

Asmodeus nodded, slowly. She'd been...well. She'd been thinking the same thing, if she were being honest. There had to be another choice. There was always another choice. You just had to find it.

"I'll keep that in mind," she said. "I think that's easy to forget, when you think you've seen how it has to be." She wondered how many of her fellows in the Dark Mirror felt that way, felt like they had no choice but to keep hiding because they'd seen the end and they thought they knew what it had to be.

"Thanks," she said, "for being willing to talk to me. I'm not Negaverse, but I'm still Chaos, so I mean, you didn't have to take the time out, but you did anyway."

Hvergelmir smiled, waving a dismissive hand. "You needed someone to talk to. I promise, that's a good enough reason for me." She glanced up at the sky for a moment, imagining stars she couldn't see. Perhaps it had been some time since her mission had just been interviewing Negaverse agents about their propaganda, anyhow. Perhaps her goals had always been evolving. "I don't see what good it does, asking for anyone's resumé to see if they meet my criteria or not. If you need someone again -- I'll still be here. That offer stands as long as I do."

Asmodeus nodded. It was good to just be able to...talk. To spill a little of what she'd kept contained, and have someone not judge her, and not poke or prod too much. To tell her story to someone.

Certainly she couldn't tell anyone in her Court.

"I still really appreciate it," she said. "I'll find you again, if I need to." She gave the Knight a smile. "I should go. I've gotta finish up my rounds tonight. But really, thank you."

She turned to leave, giving one last wave. If she was lucky, she'd find this Knight again.
