Oct 25 - Nov 29

Once the clock strikes Midnight the real party begins!
Step out of the light and into something strange.
Don a mask, a cape, a sparkling dress, become someone you're not.
This is the grand Masquerade!

GENERAL RULES
Normal RP rules apply - keep to the setting, follow the Daisy Code and Gaia's TOS, and if your character doesn't yet have a hound, do not play them as if they do!
If you do not have a character approved already, please head to the Character Profiles to create and get one approved before joining.
For points, you may either: participate in the ORP, write a solo RP, or create a PRP with friends. If you are creating your own RP, please be sure to mark it as META!

PROMPT
In the Alabaster Plains of Canis, along the edge of the Eldrig Forest, sprawls the dizzyingly delightful Carnival. Daytime boasted quirky games and frivolous festivities, but as the sun sets and the moon emerges to light the backdrop, the strange come out to play. The doors to the big top tent peel back, allowing entrance for the grand Masquerade; everyone is invited, so long as you’re dressed to impress! Inside, lanterns pop to life, illuminating the masks in a flickering glow. Strings are plucked, drums are struck, and a mysterious tune swells. Exotic edibles line the sides, but the real attraction resides in finding a partner and joining the throng of dancers.

If you peer through the swirl of colors just right, you might catch sight of a familiar form…

The NPC present is none other than Sharra, the dancer from the Moon Festival. If your character was present at the festival, then they might recognize her!
Occasionally, she will make an appearance, and should your character wish it, they may interact with her.
Interactions will last 1-3 posts per character, so don’t be offended if she moves on!
Interactions will not result in additional points, but could make for an interesting conversation~

Pose 1, Pose 3, Pose 2

EARNING POINTS
For every two posts, you will earn one point. This counts for both posts in the ORP and meta marked PRPs.
If writing a Solo RP, every 500 words will count as ONE post.

PRIZES
At the end of the event, the person with the most points will receive a semi-custom hound with a custom mask!
Everyone else who has participated within the allotted time will be entered into a FREE raffle, for a chance at one of the three masks above. Note that each mask corresponds to a particular hound's pose, and will only fit that pose.
The more you post, the more free raffle tickets you will accumulate! You will receive at least one ticket as long as you post at least once, and then one more ticket for every two points you earn.

User Image Ah, a masquerade! Piper wasn't usually one to willingly mingle with crowds of strangers but tonight was an exception. At a masquerade you could dress up as whatever you wanted and no one would know who you were! It was great! She had donned a rather roguish costume, one that called to mind a sea-faring scalawag complete with eye patch and a hook for a hand. The hook was just a prop, of course, and she had one billowy sleeve pulled up to hide her hand that held the base of it.

Beside her walked a large hound, wings tucked snugly up against her sides. Feathers adorned her neck and hind leg and a makeshift beak was tied around her muzzle. Every pirate needed a parrot, right? Aelira didn't seem to mind her little costume, although she was being very cautious not to bump into other people as she walked. Small for a hound, she was still big enough to knock someone over if she wasn't careful.

Are you sure it's all right that I'm here? she asked Piper, looking up at the human with worried eyes.

"Of course it's all right. Just make sure your beak doesn't fall off. Parrots need beaks," Piper said as she glanced down at her companion, giving her a little smile to bring some confidence to the shy hound.

Delcan laughed at how Erebus looked, all tensed up. "Relax buddy. We are here to have a good time. No danger around."

Erebus looked at his friend with a glower on his face. Erebus sighed and looked at his Summoner with a speculative glance, while Delcan looked around.

Erebus sighed and Delcan looked at him. "Come on." He knelt by him. "Look if you get tired OR if you prove me wrong, if there is danger, we will leave right away. But for now...let's go enjoy."

Delcan walked off in his nice suit and a golden mask. With another sigh, Erebus padded off after him.

Ellie tried not to make it so obvious that she was nervous being around so many people. Or maybe it was because she was so dressed up and this hardly ever occurred for the simple girl! She would gladly have stuck to hugging the wall and avoiding the other people here, but her sister dragged her out into the open. So, Ellie was stuck meekly making her way around dazzling gowns and mesmerizing masks. Not that she wasn't wearing such a gown or mask, it just looked better on everyone else in her opinion. Hers was a deep blue in color with a violet mask.

At her side, an ever constant rumble was just soft enough to not be heard but Ellie could feel it. Asmordii was Not Happy. Why in the realms did he have to be here?! Why did his Summoner feel the need to go to such a distasteful event? The hound paused in that line of thought, shooting his fiery gaze at Ellie's sister. Are you quite positive I can't take a little bite out of her? He grumped.

The redhead shot her hound bonded a dirty look. "No!" She scolded the hound, feeling her anxiety go down a notch as she placed a hand on his large head. At least he made it much easier to move through the crowd...

"Maybe Van will get distracted and we can escape." Ellie laughed a little, letting her fingers curl into Mordi's fur as they brushed by another person. Mordi seemed to tense more, sensing another hound nearby. Greaaat. His night was just getting so much better.

(Throws in two more characters to the party)

Frederick stood there nervously at the entrance of the Masquerade. He didn't want to come out tonight, hell he rather be working if that meant he could get out of this predicament.

But Delcan insisted and he hate to disappoint his friend and long time mentor.

At least he had a mask on. He could hide those horrible scars that he knew would only bring more attention to him. Yet...He sighed. It didn't matter anyway.

He looked at Garmr playing chase the tail. Everyone knew that was his hound, it wasn't hard to miss the markings on him.

He looked around once again and realized some people were staring. He blushed and said, "Please hurry Delcan!"

Diana was already dancing the night away at the Masquerade. With or without someone, it mattered naught to her. As long as her hound Selini was with her it was fine.

When she was little, she always living with fear, worried about what people would say about her or do to her but now she is a fearless women now. She loved herself (and her hound) more than anything else and she can quiet defend herself when the need arise.

But tonight, she was happy, content, to be just her and dance, for her whole entire being craves it.

Piper and Aelira

Piper adjusted her eye patch so she could catch a glimpse of those that were arriving. There were plenty of people here, but some of the new comers had hounds with them. She was always glad to see more of the furry beasts around and was certainly interested in meeting them, even if Aelira wasn't quite so keen on it. Her winged friend was as shy as hounds came although she did put on a brave face when needed.

"Hey...you wanna go say hi to some of them?" she asked the small hound/ Aelira's ears were perked and her wings, although tucked against her side, rattled just a bit as she shivered. They were all so big, and one even looked a bit mean...

Um...not really, but I'll go if you do she said with a weak smile. Piper sighed heavily and reached out to pat her 'parrot'.

"We'll go say hi in a minute, then. See if anyone else shows up first."

Samantha and Thalin'Silme

User Image Two new faces emerged into the crowded area. Samantha was dressed to the nines, her princess dress elaborate and about as authentic as they came. Her mask was adorned with pearls and gems that might draw unwanted attention from a pickpocket if it weren't for the massive hound she rode. Being small enough to sit on Thal's back was a nice treat and she hoped she'd never grow any more so she could do it forever.

Thal paused and looked this way and that, trying to find a clear space to bring his bonded so she wouldn't get trampled. There weren't many children here and Samantha might get overlooked in the fun. His eyes alighted on another human and her hound, and he made his way over towards them.

Why don't we go say hello to these two over here? he asked, nodding in the direction he was heading in. Samantha looked up and spotted the brindle hound, also with horns, and the shorter woman that stood beside it.

"Ah...okay," she said very softly. She put on a smile even though she was shaking just a bit in her massive costume. As they approached Thal got very strange vibes from the other hound, although he didn't let it show.

"H-hello," Samantha said Thal stopped in front of Asmordii and Ellie. "Nice party. Everyone's costumes are so pretty. You look like a princess, too.

Ellie and Asmordii

She really was trying to make herself enjoy this. Vanessa was off doing her own thing now, which let Ellie take things at her own stride. But she had promised not to flatten herself against the wall and be a little wallflower. Something that Mordi would have happily had them do as it would have gotten them out of the crowd. And all the dresses and glamour. Ellie found herself leaning against her hound companion as she stared in awe at a few of the dresses on the ladies around her.

The sudden tensing of Mordi and the low growl that slipped out was her only warning that someone was approaching them. As in, actually coming to talk to them. Ellie blinked in surprise at the arrival of another hound the the girl on his back. She balled her hand into a fist, gripping Mordi's fur to calm herself and keep in from doing something stupid.

"U-umm... hello." Ellie said with a shy smile. "It... yes. It is a nice party." She agreed feeling a little awkward at first. "Oh!" A furious blush reddened her cheeks at the compliment and the redhead glanced down at her gown before looking back up at the girl. "T-Thank you! I... have been admiring all the other gowns and outfits too. You look beautiful yourself." She added with a more friendly smile.

Mordi eyed the other hound suspiciously, but made no move to attack or do anything but glower. Like usual.

Responding to Frederick!

User Image
Fianna peeked around the open flap of the big top, peering curiously inside. It was a swirl of color, gowns glittering and tuxes dashing. When she had heard of the carnival in town, she knew it would prove an excellent opportunity to venture outside and experience some culture. Her parents had a habit of being...rather overbearing, and thus, far too protective. She was their sole heir, and unlike her parents, Fianna could boast few accomplishments. They desperately wanted her to be somebody, and took advantage of every free moment to push hobbies and education her way. She certainly liked the studies, but when it came to dance, she was all left feet, and when it came to music, she proved tone deaf. Pretty hopeless, honestly.

Needless to say, it took a while to convince them that their darling daughter needed this outing. But once she voiced that perhaps she would meet a rich, mysterious masked man to whom she might wed, they were practically shoving her out the front door. She tried not to take their enthusiasm at the prospect personally.

Unfortunately, the convincing had taken so long that she'd missed most of the daytime activities, but she was perfectly happy to settle for the masquerade. Elaborate dances were familiar to her world, but the setting was far more fascinating! So she wasn't uncomfortable stepping out into the crowd, decorated from head to foot in a dazzling lilac gown and soft peach mask, her ash brown hair falling in soft curls down her back. Of course, the moment she entered the tent and committed herself to the event, she found herself lost to the sway of the music and the shimmer of the lights.

Despite Ipheion's voiced concerns, Fianna wandered aimlessly, ignorant to her immediate surroundings. It was no surprise to her hound then when she trod right over some poor gentleman's shoes. Unintentional, of course, but it cued a sigh and an eye roll from Ipheion nonetheless.

Thankfully, Fianna realized her mistake shortly after it happened, and shot back with a gasp, wide eyes finding the young man's. "Oh I am so sorry! Did I step on your foot? Shoot, I always step on feet! It happens to be why I cannot dance, you see." Ipheion barked a laugh, shaking her head in exasperation. Faey, meanwhile, ever clueless, bleated up at Fianna happily.

Frederick didn't see Delcan anywhere. Maybe...maybe he gotten the meeting place wrong?

He grumbled at his stupidity and wasted time. He really didn't want to be here at all, alone. Now if he was with Delcan, all the attention would be on him and he could blend in with the background.

"Is it alright for you to do that?" A memory of Delcan's words popped in his head. It was during the end of training one day that some of the women had come to see and gush at Delcan while they practice. Frederick used the opportunity to turn away and start getting ready for patrol duty, unbeknownst to him that some of the women came to see Frederick as well. Delcan caught up with him and asked him why does he do that and when Frederick answered with a confused huh that Delcan said those words.

Frederick frowned at the thought. He knew that Delcan knew he does that on purpose and tries to help Frederick in every way...but he was damage goods. An orphan boy who was adopted and abused, not wanted by any family and being physically scarred wasn't helping either...

Just as the thoughts turned too dark, a young lady stepped over his feet and he grunted with pain and surprise. He looked around, he was in a pretty much secluded corner, granted everyone can see him but he was pretty much alone here.

As the lady apologized, Frederick tensed up as a reflex...talking to women WAS NOT his forte. He cleared his throat before responding, "I am fine, no worries. Are you alright Miss...?" That was correct right?

Frederick shifted his mask to make sure his scars were covered...and then caught the look of big green eyes behind the mask. Frederick really looked at the women now. Soft ash brown hair and pale skin she looks and appears to be genuinely sweet.

So this women didn't come to talk to him on purpose, to make fun of him. It was a pure accident.

Frederick relaxed a bit at the realization and admit, she is indeed pretty.

He finally arrives!

User Image
Peter edged into the massive tent without a word, eyes fixated on the festivities. If he were asked to explain his presence, he wasn't entirely sure how he might answer. Because he was...curious? Lonely? Admittedly, he wasn't much for company, aside from his hound, Odeir, but he had to say...sometimes, he thought maybe he wouldn't mind a friend or two. A friend of the human variety, that was. Maybe it was that longing, locked away deep inside, that had possessed him to attend the masquerade. He was well stocked for the week anyway, so it wasn't like he had much of anything better to do.

His garb was practical and simple, consisting mainly of leathers and furs. All hand made, of course, so the quality was rugged. He never bought from the market, thinking it a waste when he could procur everything he needed from the forests. A quick look around told him, however, that he was likely by far the least formally dressed. The other men wore tuxes of clean lines and crisp fabric, while the women were especially lovely as they glittered in the low light.

"Maybe this was a mistake..." He murmured to Odeir, keeping to the outer edges. Odeir peered up at his summoner, his golden gaze thoughtful.

Nonsense. You just need to loosen up with someone fun. Someone like... Odeir glanced around, and then smiled with satisfactory. Her. The one with the eye patch. Is that a real hooked hand? Peter followed Odeir's line of sight, the corners of his mouth twitching with the exertion of hiding a smile. "Fine."

With a huff, Peter picked his way through the crowd, Odeir on his heels. He approached the pirate woman slowly, clearing his throat once she was within arm reach and attempted not to scowl. "Your hand...is it real?"

Chibi_Kokoro143
But of course!

'You're lucky he didn't throttle you...

Fianna shot her hound a curious glance, her slim eyebrows pushing toward her hairline. Why would he have harmed her for an accident? Sometimes, Ipheion and her worldly logic made little sense to the young woman. But the lady paid it little mind, quickly forgetting the caution and returning her attention to the gentleman she'd assaulted. Contrary to Ipheion's assumptions, the man took it in good stride, claiming he was quite fine, and even inquiring after her well being. Well, that was kind!

Fianna giggled and nodded, suddenly feeling silly. Her cheeks were warm with blush, and she could feel her eyes widening further. She already possessed large eyes, and with her habit of opening them wide, she persistently looked like a deer in headlights. She nodded again, realizing suddenly that she hadn't spoken for a rather long pause. "Oh sorry, yes, of course! I am quite fine." She paused again to peer around curiously, as if looking for someone, or afraid she might miss something. In doing so, she missed the uncomfortable shift of his mask, and thus for now, remained ignorant to his anxieties.

When she fixated Frederick with her stare again, she was fidgeting, and for no apparent reason. "So, um...did you come along with anyone?"

ooc Sorry these are short, my head is killiiiiiiing me.

Piper and Aelira

Piper adjusted her eye patch again as she surveyed the party. More and more hounds and their bonded appeared and she had to smile a bit once more. It was nice to know that they were becoming more common once again. At the back of her mind she couldn't help but worry a bit as well, though. If this many hounds were returning did that mean something bad was going to happen? They fought demons, after all. Surely what had happened long ago wasn't going to happen again.

The sound of someone clearing their throat on her 'blind' side made Piper turn, looking up at the rugged man that was addressing her. Whoa, those furs looked pretty authentic!

"This?" she asked, holding up the hook. "Nah, I'd be a pretty lousy veterinarian if I really had a hook for a hand," she said with a little laugh, giving her hook a wave. She tilted her head a bit before a white figure behind the man caught her attention.

"Oh wow! Is that your hound?" she asked, looking back at the man as she lifted her eye patch. Aelira kept herself behind Piper but at the mention of another hound she poked her head around Piper's legs, looking out warily to the other creature.

Hello she said quietly to him, giving her tail a very slight wag.

Samantha and Thalin'Silme

Samantha smiled a bit wider as the older girl complimented her as well. She blushed a bit and smoothed her hands down her dress, always a little self-conscious when she was dressed up like this. She preferred less fancy attire but her father always insisted she wear the best, especially to parties.

"Thanks. I wanted to be a miner but Father said a princess would be better." She lifted her hands to hold on to Thal's horns as she slid off his back, looping one arm around his huge neck once she was on the ground. Counting his horns Thal stood a good foot taller than his bonded, which made Samantha look even smaller than she actually was.

"Is that your hound?" she asked, nodding to the other horned hound. "He's very pretty."

Hope you feel better soon.

Frederick blushed slightly when she giggled. Her blush was apparent on her pale skin and those eyes, like a deer caught in the lights.

When she answered that she was fine, he breath in a sigh of relief. He didn't know if the relief was from him not being in any sort of trouble with this women or if that she was genuinely okay.

When she looked around and looked at him again, she was fidgeting and ask him if he was with someone. He scratched the back of his neck. "Kinda..."

He trailed off and that certain someone rammed into his behind, almost making Frederick fall.

As he caught himself he turned to see that Gramr decided to come back...with a whole mess of crumbs upon his face.

Gramr exclaimed as he also proceeded to lick his chops.

Frederick froze as horror and embarrassment crept up upon his face. "What did you do?!" He hissed.

Gramr was scratching his ear as he looked at him.

Frederick groaned as Gramr barked and stuck his tongue out.

"Why can't you be like Erebus...?" Now Frederick really didn't want to be here, especially with his companion acting like a slob.

Not wanting the young lady to see the heat spread from his face to neck he gestured to Gramr. "This is whom I'm with tonight."

Peter & Odeir

Odeir snorted with laughter, and Peter cocked his brow. A...veterinarian? Are those not the sort who heal animals? Slowly, Peter shifted his gaze to glance sidelong at his hound, eyes narrowing subtly. Ya...I get the joke. A cosmic joke, as it were. The first person he approached just happened to live as opposite him as one could. Grimly, he returned his gaze to stare down at the hook-hand woman, anxiously attempting to decide how he might easily shift the conversation elsewhere. He couldn't imagine "well I'm a hunter" would smooth over so well.

Thankfully, perhaps even because she sensed his anxiety, she changed the subject, to instead gawk at his hound. Odeir adored attention, and puffed his chest out proudly, smirking as arrogantly as a hound could. Peter snorted, and nodded. "It is. Odeir. He's an oaf." Odeir scoffed, but the comment barely ruffled his fur. However, he wasn't given long to boast for the summoner girl, as a flying hound fluttered out from behind pirate girl, exposing herself and greeting Odeir. Odeir grinned, bowing his head gallantly. Greetings! Fine evening for a dance, wouldn't you say?

While Odeir was fluent in the language of chivalry and romance, Peter was...a little more than lacking in those departments. Which is why Odeir's flirtations earned him an eye roll from Peter, and then promptly ignored. Attention returned to the woman in front of him, Peter figured proper introductions were in order, unless he wanted to continue referring to her as "pirate girl" and "hook-hand" all night. "I'm Peter."

Chibi_Kokoro143
Fianna & Ipheion

"Oh?" She craned her neck to peer around, looking for this mystery partner. When she didn't see anyone who seemed to be associating, she returned her stare to the man, eyebrows knitted together in confusion. But then a thought hit, and her eyes widened with understanding. Ohhh! A bad date. Had to be. That's why he was alone, even though he was "kinda" with someone. Yep, had to be.

But before she could comment on his poor date picking choice, a hound bound up to the man's side, and the two conversed. Amused, Fianna watched the exchange, glancing down at Ipehion to share a smile. The hound was an exuberant fellow, ramming into the back of his summoner, his mouth slathered with crumbs from the food he had undoubtedly just devoured. She giggled into her hand when the man returned his attention to Fianna, the exasperation clear. She didn't know what it might be like to boast such a lively hound, but it seemed fun! Ipheion was far more reserved, all manner and lecture.

"You are a summoner!" She clapped her hands together, bouncing up on tip toe. "How exciting! I love meeting new ones. Do tell, what is his name? Oh goodness, what is your name?" It just occurred to her that they had not yet exchanged pleasantries. "My name is Fianna Turelli , and my hound Ipheion."

Other summoners can't hear other hounds thoughts right? Only the summoner and their hound has that kind of connection.

Frederick scowled at her mentioning names. Now that she mentioned it, he really didn't introduced himself before, being very rude not having done so before.

Putting a hand over his heart, he bowed. "My name is Frederick...Alwin. A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lady Fianna Turelli and Ipheion" At the last moment he decided not to give his nickname. He didn't want to see if she would react badly to the nickname Bear. Yes, he killed a bear, survived an attack but he didn't want to see if she would be disgusted on having talk to a brute like him. Strange...it never bother him on what others thought before. Why now?

As he straighten up, he gestured to the vortex patterned hound. "This is my hound, Garmr. I am a summoner like you said."

He scowled at Garmr. "Don't be rude." Garmr cocked his head, suddenly realized what his partner was saying, and did a lazy bow and introduced himself to Ipheion. His tail wagged.
