Lex had taken leave from the Infirmary, the tents currently overstaffed ( a rarity, but it had actually happened for once), and Lex was not a fan of getting caught up in Sunny's hair.
Well...at least not usually. The gym was packed at the moment, too, with annoying Trap music blasted by one of the wonder twins. He wasn't hungry, didn't want to nap, and as such found himself laying on the grass near the sparring fields, starring at the bleak sky.
<< Alexei. >>
Lex rolled onto his side, then stood. Chastisement from his weapon wasn't something he needed.
The gryphon huffed, and went back to a cold silence. Lex headed to the training grounds. Target practice was soothing, and it would keep his mind off everything.
---
Fifteen minutes in, and Lex grew bored. Dummies were only good for practicing his aim, which had been near perfected after two years of using a heavy pistol. He needed something more, something that wouldn't bore him into thinking about his life.
Lex whipped out his phone and sent out a quick message.
the semblance of unity Message to: HoraceI think it's time for that rematch, buddy.

It didn't require more than that, Horace thought. He was looking for a distraction and a guy with a gun seemed just that. He shrugged on a shirt and headed out. ---- He crossed the field quickly, trying to remember the last time they had fought. Had been about whats-her-face Claude. He remembered bruises. "What's shakin', big bro?" Horace grinned cheekily at the man who was decidedly not his brother.

Lex gave Horace an amiable smile, tucking Regal into the back of his jeans. "Not much, little man. Just feel like some actual target practice instead of, yanno-" He jerked his thumb at the hole riddled dummy. Hopefully that wasn't vaguely threatening, or anything.
"Plus, haven't talked with you since you've been back from off-island. Figured we could catch up, maybe I won't be so stupid and angry about my sister this time. She can take care of herself, after all." He shrugged, rolling his shoulders a bit.
"Plus, I want to see how much better you've gotten now that you're on my level."

"Always pleased to be full of holes for the right person." Horace rolled his eyes at the 'little man' comment. "Nothing to tell - was off island for three months running mapping scans. You do anything fun while I was gone?" Without real thought, Horace summoned Jannisari, feeling her weight flash into existence on his arms. In his mind, her voice was muddled, far away; she was only speaking to herself. Horace shook his head at Lex, crowding in close to give him a love tap on one arm. Luckily for Lex, he resisted the urge to trail fingers along Lex's jawline or do something else equally uncomfortable. "Don't put your gun away during a fight. I might think you're unarmed." "Well, that's the point, Horace." Lex chided, bringing Regal into his right hand and shooting Horace in the arm, as punishment for having gotten close enough to allow for muzzle contact.
"Well, not much, truth be told. Got into a game of chicken with Maebe, went on a few weird missions, visited Canada - That was fun - and that's about it."
Never mind the breakup, moving to the basement, the sudden shift in his attire from nice to Old Navy. If Horace was a good observer, he'd ask about that sort of thing himself. "Mapping sounds dull. Did you enjoy it?"

He winced, jerking back at the bullet scraped along his shield. "Mapping was.... quiet. I can't call it nice, but-" There had been a forest with more voices than it should have, there had been a ruin where he had dangled off of a ledge, looking at the sea below and wondered. "Chicken with Maebe? I bet you lost, old man. What's with the basement dweller stuff, too?" The clothing was lost on Horace, and he hadn't paid attention to any hints of a break-up, too immersed in his own problems. Life continued on the island even though he was away. There were things to catch up on. He slashed out with the blade on his arm. HP: 45/50 DMG: 8 CHG: 2/3

Caught off guard by Horace's knowledge of Lex's new home, he didn't have enough time to duck or dive as the blade slashed right across his chest, sparks skidding off the Fear shield.
"Well, you're packing a bit more of a punch." Lex grinned, slamming his shoulder into Horace to try and get him to just back the ******** up, even for a few seconds. He needed breathing room, dammit.

"That's the point, sweetcheeks. I even win sometimes, now." He huffed out air as he tried to regain his breath. "And don't act like I don't know - I live in the basement and I'm death." The last bit was said with 'spooky' finger waggles right before Horace punched him.

"I'd like to see you try, today." Lex grinned, pressing his pistol right into Horace's stomach and firing, then pushing the younger man away with an open palm. Finally, some space.
"Well, you're just gonna have to use those Death skills to figure it out yourself, buddy. DADT and all that."
Probably the wrong acronym, but whatever.

Horace stumbled back and fell over dramatically. He hissed as he sat up, a silly grin on his face. That was sort of what he'd expected from the man. "Don't Ask, Don't Tell? s**t, Lex, did you go gay and Ami kick you out?" He huffed out a laugh and weaved to his feet. Suddenly, he sprang forward, electricity crackling up and down his arms. He slammed bodily into Lex. "Does that mean I have a chance now, Lex-senpai~?" This was said in the most disgustingly gooey voice Horace could manage while knocking a guy around. It was pretty gooey. Lex grunted and fell with Horace, taking the full brunt of his charged attack and thanking whatever divinity there might be that he wasn't actually being hit with the electricity that crackled down the Death's arms. Shitting one's self wasn't exactly what you would call fun.
"You're getting close there, Horeman." Lex cracked a grin as he scrambled to his feet, clicking the winged hammer of Regal back, the gun glowing a bright gold and rattling in his hands. "But even if I did swing that way, a few other guys have got first dibs."
A reverberating tenor accompanied the gunshot, at once sounding like a chorus, an eagle's cry, and a lion's roar. God, that always felt good.

His groan at being called 'Horeman' was swallowed by Regal's cry. And then he was too busy tumbling to protest. And he didn't want to protest. The places his shield ran thin felt good, like the anticipation of tearing a bandage off. So, while his body protest, Horace sprang back up like a daisy, staggering a bit but smiling. "Whoa, you got a waiting list? Really. Who's on it?" He sauntered up to Lex and deliberately trailed his fingers along the other man's collarbone. Then he punched him in the stomach, smile slanted in amusement for now. HP: 16/50 DMG: 10 CHG: 1/3

"Oh, you know. Robert, Leon, Marcus. Big, hunky men. Maybe Jack, too - he'd be a good ********> Lex barked in laughter, taking the brunt of Horace's punch, feeling his shield get incredibly weak and worn, fitting him more like a ragged jacket than a suit of armor.
At least this was fun, though. Lex retaliated with a knee to Horace's chest, using his height to his advantage, and then shot the younger man's shoulder for a bit of added 'oomph.' "Tell you what; you beat me, I disclose the entire truth to you. But if I win, you take me out to dinner. Deal?"

He hopped back, off-balance and brought a hand to his shoulder. "Goddamn, ow. That list needs more variety. I bet Jack is mean in bed, gotta watch out for those quieter types." He seemed to consider Lex's wager for a second and then shrugged, the corners of his eyes crinkled up in amusement. "But, Lex, if you wanted was a date - all you had to do was ask." He grinned and ducked around Lex, liberally applying the spikes on his hands to the man's kidneys. For once, he wanted to win. HP: 5/50 DMG: 10 CHG: 2/3
